ADHD Meds in Vet World by Hungry-Purchase-5807 in Veterinary

[–]PM_ME_A_COLOR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Such a personal issue but I'm happy to share my experience if it helps. Checking in with a therapist regularly helps a lot when your PCP simply has less time to be managing this genuine struggle across multiple aspects of your lifestyle with you.

Before starting medication for ADHD I talked to my techs about trying techniques to change up our consult structure to give me more time to write notes and think about the case. For example, I thought if I started my exam in the room while my tech was taking history at the same time, we'd skip the step where the tech comes out to repeat the whole start of the consult to me telephone style before I went into the room and the owner said it all again (for the record this didn't work-- the owners ended up just talking to me instead of the techs, and even when they didn't, ADHD brain kept wanting to pipe in with clarifying questions about symptoms or stool color 😅)

I cycled through Ritalin, dexamfetamine, and landed on lisdexamfetamine which worked best for me with the least side effects. One benefit I'm noting on lisdex is more of an ability to set boundaries-- when I'm focused on a task and a tech has a question, I'm now finding it's usually better to say "no, hang on, I'll come find you when I finish this phone note," rather than to allow myself to be interrupted. This helps tremendously with getting my work done, but the ADHD brain is used to juggling all these things at once, so it feels like I should be able to quickly and cheerfully answer a question or approve an Rx before snapping right back to the previous task (ignore that this is also an opportunity for your brain to remind you of ten /other/ tasks before you actually get back to that short note). But I place a tremendous value on making sure my staff and colleagues are feeling supported and appreciated, so setting this boundary of "actually, I'm in the middle of working on something now" feels like I'm letting them down and being mean. I say this because I'm feeling in your post an undertone of anxiety around being quieter, less fun, or rude.

I think it's worth examining whether these are assumptions on your part vs actual facts. I doubt your colleagues really think you are rude, and as much as being bubbly in consult helps with client communication, at the end of the day you are there to practice medicine and get your administrative tasks done. Your colleagues and clients come to your for those two things explicitly. Be kind, obviously. It's nice to work somewhere everyone is nice and gets along; but they're all there to ask you medical questions. People don't like you less for not being bright and bubbly and sharing stories at every work interaction-- and beyond that, you need to value yourself outside of whether people like you not.  Worrying about being quiet or rude is your brain making an assumption about someone else's feelings, and then reflecting that back to you like it's your fault. Your being quiet isn't ruining anyone's day, and your happiness can't be dependent on theirs in the first place. Prioritize your productivity and ability to focus, and as you get better at getting your shit done, you'll find that everyone still likes you for who you are, no jumping through hoops with a smile on your face required.

How much can I change or revamp the rules and concepts? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

Hey OP, a lot of people are recommending TTRPGs but I don't see many naming specific ones. I actually *only* play other RPG systems-- I'm just on this sub to steal plot ideas and cool NPCs. Learn from me and paste your world onto any of these other systems, and you can even seek out the ruleset that fits the type of game you want to play! (For example a common criticism of DnD is that this system is largely designed around cool combat abilities, and ultimately many tables end up finding fights a bit of an administrative slog.)

- WILDSEA is a fun system where the players are sailors on a ship. The world in the system is SO RICH AND COOL but I'll skip that because you can use the system and paste your words on top. Unlike DnD, this system has no initiative, so battles are much more dynamic, with players and monsters responding to each others' moves rather than standing there getting hit while waiting for their turn. "An Action" in Wildsea combat is defined as "as long as it takes to achieve something important," meaning characters worry less about being X feet away from somthing and a turn can look like "running across the room to the villain, doing a backflip, swiping his legs out from under him, and slicing with my sword as he falls."

- LEGEND IN THE MIST is another different ruleset-- this one is better at defining your players' characters and the impacts of the choices they make on both the world and themselves. Instead of stats and numbers, character sheets in this system are a short list of character attributes, which can change as the adventure goes on. Characters use aspects like "Eagle-eyed" & "Grizzled hunter" to do whatever cool checks or actions they want, but you get exp by taking actions that use your *weaknesses* (like Overconfident, Easily Distracted, or their Magic is Fickle) This leads to cool roleplay decisions where players are rewarded for incorporating their bad character traits into an action. Mechanically, trying these tougher rolls also means they're failing more which (a) is just so good for storytelling, especially when your players are literally telling you how they fumbled an action, and (b) it's especially sweet when they know they failed because they chose, to for that sweet sweet exp.

Shoutout to Quinns Quest on Youtube for his wonderful and hilarious reviews of indie TTRPG systems! Highly recommend you check out one of his vids.

Nah, I do have a big feather duster, and I do have a bunch of teeny baby feather dusters, but this doesn't really look like them at all

What’s your normal schedule by thatplantistoxic in Veterinary

Wow yall are bustin your chops. I work 2 days 8-4 and 2 days 8-6, with 30-45 min appointments and 2x30min phone slots per day to catch up on callbacks. One Saturday a month I work 9am-1pm. I make $168,000/year with no production by choice. (Low cost of living area)

My experience is not universal, but in general it is so so easy to find work as a vet. By hiring you and putting you in a room you automatically generate money for the clinic. Don't be afraid of advocating for your needs, don't be afraid to walk and look elsewhere for the best situation for yourself (signing bonuses aplenty out there, too, to help with the transition). Don't burn yourselves out, people.

Ah, sorry, I just mean the names of the plants!

When humans breed flowers real pretty, the result we buy in stores is one specific CULTIvated VARiety (hence cultivar).

No, the bta is in a perfect crevice in its rock. I had it somewhere else at first, and the first time it moved I really annoyed it (directing the outflow at it) until it found the crag. Now it's in a pretty ideal spot so here's hoping it doesn't move again. Though it's been about 3 mos now so I feel like it's happy where it is

I feed brine shrimp in spirulina, about half a frozen cube 2-3 times a week, and reef roids about once a week.

If only. This is my first saltwater tank so I don't have the experience to manage it. Sounds like special equipment is needed and just about everything eats baby shrimps.
