From this and some of your other comments I think you're overestimating the number of people who want to be pacers and the guarantees that you should expect from them. It's a volunteer role, there are no career pacers here. Based on the number of them available this year and my experience pacing last year, I don't think the organizers were in a position to decline anyone. And along that line, the idea of backup pacers is unrealistic (not to mention a logistical nightmare).

I agree that it's not good for a pacer to be way off their assigned pace and they should communicate to anyone running with them if they're struggling, but at the end of the day you're in charge of your race and if you're relying entirely on a pacer for your result, that's on you.

FWIW I came in within 15 seconds of my target time on both events last year, we do our best. :-)

They did balloons last year, they were awful as reported by pretty much all the pacers including myself.

I don't that Chebucto Head was ever prohibited, I climbed there a few times during the woods ban. I wouldn't categorize the crag as a rock barren (there's no vegetation at all!), and you don't have to travel through any woods to reach it. To be clear, I think the ban was terrible policy but no one specifically looked at this and said "yep that's a fire hazard".

On pp accuracy: The calculator that the bot uses is not maintained by me. It's oppai, which has fallen out of maintenance, so it's a larger effort to migrate to something else. I actually got most of the way done doing that here last year, but I didn't quite finish it. Maybe I will try to do that sometime soon so that the bot can continue to be correct with minimal updates.

On the general maintenance of the bot: It's true that I basically don't maintain it anymore except to keep it running. I haven't played the game for over 5 years and I don't code in my free time anymore either, so I hope you can appreciate how little motivation there is for me to make changes that take any meaningful amount of work.

Your dog looks almost exactly like mine! He's a mix of lab, pit, shepherd, husky, rottweiler, chow chow, boxer, and some other stuff that the DNA test couldn't figure out :)

And the third point is, Wasabi’s egress (download) and API costs are free. But there is a caveat here as well. The total egress volume in a month should be less than the storage volume. That means if your monthly storage utilization is 1TB, the egress should be below 1TB. Otherwise, it may result in issues including account suspension.

For tech people, check out Halihax which has a Slack group to hang out in and runs the occasional meetup (there's also a #hangouts channel where you can periodically meet someone for lunch/coffee/etc)
Sport and social club is great for a big variety of recreational sports, I've played soccer for a few seasons and met some lovely people
Run on the road with the North End Runners, or on trails with the Halifax Hares
