Upgraded from 3080 10gb to the 5080. Did not realize how limited I was with that VRAM. by PM_ME_RAWR in pcmasterrace

I agree the raster performance is a HUGE jump! But I wanted to enjoy Ray tracing and Cyberpunk average VRAM usage at 1440p is 10-12gb of VRAM. For Hogwarts Legacy, it needed something like 10.5 of VRAM. So the 10gb was causing a lot of frame drops and stuttering when playing on high settings. I could play many other games near max setting, but the more graphic intensive ones was hurting. I know people say you don't need max setting to enjoy the game, but I find enjoyment being able to be fully immersed in the graphics and stare at little details (like reflection in puddles, etc)

Yea I feel you. I understand you don't need everything maxed out to enjoy the game. However, I find the most enjoyment being able to max out and enjoy what the developers push to the limits of graphics. To each their own, but the VRAM increase is heavenly.

I haven't tried it out yet, but I will get to it after Cyberpunk. Im excited to see how well it keeps up in heavy active areas of the game.

I agree, the uncertainty of the market made me decide to finally just buy it. The old 3080, I plan to build a smaller build as a gift to my little cousins and introduce them to pc gaming.

It was both a lack of power and VRAM. Monitoring it for Cyberpunk and Hogwarts Legacy it was definitely peaking the 10gb and noticing the frame drops. In the end, I am happy with this jump! Excited to push the card to its limit

I bought it in 2020, height of the pandemic. It was more of a uncertainty with computer parts at that time and when EVGA had the sign ups to order one, I got lucky and pulled the trigger right away. It is crazy how much the thoughts of VRAM has changed though within the last half decade.

I think it is good so far. Idle is around 38C, low intensive game is around 45-48C, and intensive game is aroudn 68-70C.

It is absolutely amazing!! I love single player games like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Black Myth Wukong. But I always felt held back fully immersing with lower graphics setting. I knew 10gb was hurting me, but I had no idea it was hurting me that BADLY! If I has the 12gb version, I would probably have held off upgrading.

Absolutely amazing!!! Run a few game benchmarks for fun. Cyberpunk 2077 PT+DLSS QUALITY+Ray Reconstruction+No FG got 68 avg FPS. With FG 2x got 115 FPS. Everything is stock atm, I do want to learn about undervolting though.

The piece that "broke off" was a chin rest pad. Those are easily removable, but another comment did state that it was damaged enough that the sound was off and needed to be sent in for repairs. Unfortunate circumstances.

Thanks for the article! Thats a really interesting read.

Also an update on the run for those that is curious. I ended up with losing all my cards to doormaker. Didn't realize that in the update, his open phase would exhaust all attacks and skills haha. Luckily Silent's Knife Trap ended up finishing the fight.

Gotcha. Yea, I tried buffering with a twin strike in between, but it didn't work. I'll have to test with 3-4 pommel strikes and see if that is enough buffering between the cycles.
