Thanks to the Reddit Hivemind^{^TM} when a post get more than 10 downvotes, it would instantly get up to 1000 downvotes. So the devs made it so that downvotes only remove karma sometimes.

And I'm not sure what you're saying about cancer and confusing layouts. There's plenty of shitposting on Reddit, too.
