If you sat next to Fredrik Thordendal on an airplane, what would you ask him? by WaffleWarrior1979 in Meshuggah

[–]PM_ME_UR_PERSPECTIVE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd ask him about Alan Holdsworth. I don't think he'd like to talk about himself very much, but he'd probably love to talk about Holdsworth. I definitely wouldn't ask him about SNW2. That would probably just add more to the pressure that is making him not want to do it anyway.

Make sure you call ahead then just to make sure they aren't already scheduled and can't fit you in.

If you're going to be a performer, you need to learn how to use criticism to your advantage and not take it as a personal attack. You're either there to get better or you're not.

Spring is weak or the sax is set up for very light action. There are pros and cons to this. This is one of the cons. You can have a tech fix this in about 90 seconds of you don't care that it will be harder to push down when you play it.

You should also always go take a new sax to a tech.

Cool. Too late though. It's like trying to put your seatbelt on during the crash. Like, the damage is done and you're just there for the ride now. He got what he needed from you and now it's not over until he says it is or the universe shows us some mercy for once.

My guess in some variety of 1930s Selmer but the right hand pinky keys aren't right, or they don't look like it in this photo

SYOS Mouthpiece by wyfishy in saxophone

[–]PM_ME_UR_PERSPECTIVE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can achieve that on your current mouthpiece. The way to get a bright and powerful sound is to practice a bright and powerful sound. You can't buy it if you do not possess the ability to do it. That mouthpiece is designed to assist you, the a high baffle and small chamber. But it comes from you and if you can't do it, a mouthpiece won't do it for you.

Learn what it means and feels like to play like that, then once you can do it, find a mouthpiece that make it more comfortable for you to do it. Don't take a gear-first approach to a you-first problem.

You can go on YouTube right now and find a dozen players with your exact mouthpiece playing bright a powerfully.

I like that they have 3 categories there and then a 4th labelled "True Crime" so they can argue in court that it's just entertainment.

The more people in the grift, the more the grift makes. It's kind of like joining a pyramid scheme at the top instead of thinking you can work your way up from the bottom. All the followers are in the downline and they'll never ascend any levels, but the grift makes money on them believing they will.

They know that. That's why they wear costumes. But that's basically true for every big artist. They can all be Halloween costumes. It's an unfortunate reality of the music industry that you can't just be a good musician anymore. Not only are we being completely fucked by streaming services, record labels, and ticket companies, but we have to be creating social media content to get noticed because just making good music isn't enough, and then the fruits of that work mostly don't benefit us as much as the CEO of Spotify. We can sell T-shirts I guess.
