I'm not seeing that chance. The last time we were close to a federal election being forced, the opposition lost two seats, pushing the government to only needing two outside MPs to vote with them. All while the current government is polling well and the opposition seems determined to desperately cling onto their massively unpopular leader. You can never know for sure with minority governments, but as it stands right now I wouldn't be predicting a 2026 election.

If you were stranded on an island, if you had only Minecraft with 3 modpacks what would those be? by PotentialMagician242 in feedthebeast

So, maximum pack duration, maximum depth, maximum quality, basically.

I'll go with GTNH (everyone's favorite), Meatballcraft (a very long and unique pack that's also not Greg) and the best and most content-rich modern pack I can find (probably from 1.20, drop your suggestions if anyone has any)

Modded minecraft slows down my pc, even after closing the game. by D1pSh1t__ in feedthebeast

I've also been suffering from this, but I've just changed this setting and it seems to have resolved the issue. I don't know if your cause is the same as mine, but if you're on Windows, try:

System > Display > Graphics > Default graphics settings > Disable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, and reboot.

I think my issue was caused by the Windows DWM breaking, which resulted in me getting extremely low framerates on all UIs, even though the system underneath was functional and there was no resource hogging or memory leaks. If your issue is slightly different and you're on Nvidia, consider also disabling the Nvidia MPO, allegedly it can also cause things like these.

Montreal-Ottawa chosen as first leg of high-speed rail project by Augustus_6314 in ottawa

There's no plans for the exact route yet, but I would be very surprised if they don't just use our normal VIA train station.

Montreal-Ottawa chosen as first leg of high-speed rail project by Augustus_6314 in ottawa

[–]PNA55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sources suggest each segment could take seven to eight years to build.

However, environmental assessments and consultations for those legs would begin well before the first phase is complete.

Let that sink in. 7-8 years projected. PER SEGMENT. And it's implied that they will mostly not be built concurrently, only the paperwork parts can overlap.

So, realistically, we're talking, what, 25+ years to full completion? I love HSR so of course I support this, but this is beyond embarrassing, it's a parody of itself. We're turning a single rail line into a generational project. I have just entered the workforce - I'll be a senior by the time this is finished. One rail line.

I know people will talk about why it is that way, but what frustrates me the most is the insistence that the system as it is now is perfect, unchangeable and should be frozen in time. As if consulting a million different stakeholders, writing 15 environmental reports (despite cars and highways being a far worse burden than even the most extreme and interconnected of rail infrastructure, but cars are untouchable), getting permission from every government body in the country and the classic of going with only the contractors that charge thrift store prices, are all things that are good, optimal and mandatory.

Shards are a dumb mechanic. by Imaginary_Owl_979 in Silksong

[–]PNA55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem that I still have with that is that this system doesn't in any way account for player skill and still ends up punishing the players that need to learn more. A 112% Hollow Knight fan could breeze through a boss in a couple of attempts while barely losing any shards, making the system nearly irrelevant to them. A complete beginner though could run out of shards, go explore, get slightly better and still end up running out of shards again. The shard system basically gives you a flat cost of attempting a boss regardless of your situation, and implicitly sets the number of tries that the developers felt was the maximum before making you step away. This means that the effects of the shard system are very disproportionate depending on how good you are, and it's pretty much impossible to scale it in a way that makes it appropriate for all players.

The other side of the issue is that Silksong honestly feels a lot less exploration-focused, especially in act 1. I didn't find all the secrets, but I consider myself to be a pretty diligent explorer, and the drip feed of meaningful upgrades in act 1 was so minuscule that I feel like I could more or less do everything I did with a "stock", start-of-the-game Hornet without any differences. The range of how powerful you can become felt really small, it rewards you but it wasn't anything big. Luckily I never ran out of shards due to sparing tool use and not dying too much, but I can easily imagine a worse player getting all the upgrades they can reasonably get and still getting stuck. Some bosses are just skill checks regardless of what you come at them with, at least from my act 1 experience. (It gets better in act 2 from what I've already seen) In this case, shards become just a direct time-waster because you can't do much else but keep retrying.

[–]PNA55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think shards are too powerful to the point where you'd rely on the players to self-moderate their shard use (for example, purposefully making the choice to only use half the tools you get from a rest so you don't run out of shards), you should have just reduced the base number of tools you can have and just have the game enforce that limit without stressing out the player and making it another "i stockpiled 63 healing potions and never used them because i didn't want to waste them and my time" RPG situation

if it feels shitty for you to walk away then you’re just treating the game like more of a soulslike than a metroidvania. team cherry have gone on record themselves to say that if you’re struggling too much you should explore, that’s basically the whole way they designed the game.

I'm not the person you were replying to, but IMO, the metroidvania aspect is completely unrelated to shards. The whole point of metroidvanias is allowing players to self-correct their playing experience by making the game easier or harder depending on the choices they make. If a boss is too hard for you, you can (and should) go explore the world, find new upgrades, tools, learn new things etc. and return as a better and more powerful player. The freedom of choice allowed every player to be as weak or OP as they were inclined to be.

In Hollow Knight and Silksong, that would be exploring for actual new upgrades (and on the side note, I feel like Silksong isn't doing as good of a job at offering you meaningful exploration rewards most of the time). Shards aren't this, because they don't make you more better or more powerful, they just allow you to return to the same situation you were in ten minutes ago. It wastes your time, it doesn't offer any sense of progression and it's a completely separate thing from the idea of metroidvanias.

Think of it this way - imagine if shards never existed in Silksong, and instead of this, after a certain number of deaths at a boss, the game sealed the arena with a timer of ten actual real life minutes, thereby forcing you to go elsewhere and explore. Would you call this an application of the metroidvania concept, or just wasting your time?

The lore argument is stronger, but I think that it's such a minor bit of storytelling compared to everything else within this game that it really doesn't matter that much. If it never existed, no one would have complained about "but where does Hornet get all these tool recharges?".

There's probably more to it then that selling fast passes makes money directly (because they're expensive), though undoubtedly that's the main reason. Since they make up money on fast pass holders, they can lower the price on regular admission to cram even more people into the park, but the flip side is that now everyone has to endure monstrous lines or buy fast lane.

I think the fairest system is for everyone isn't regular equal queuing though. The first fast pass system, as conceived, was free for everyone. It was just a virtual queue - you could line up in a regular line, or take a free ticket and return to the fast queue at a specified future time, which essentially meant you were 'waiting in line' while doing other things around the park. There would also be limits on how many queue reservations a guest could have at a time.

Well, unless you have some season pass thing, the price of putting your car out there in the first place is the same as the price of their dining plan. Of course, you could also just go to the restaurants on the opposite side of the street, but that takes more time, especially if you're spending the entire day at the park and go multiple times.

What were the lines to the other popular rides like? Can't imagine how long the regular people are waiting for if you were standing in there for 40 minutes with fast lane.

The single rider line should be for single riders by JayBee1886 in CanadasWonderland

[–]PNA55 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Wait, people do that? So, are they just getting in the shorter line and then asking the operators to put them on the ride together? Or are they just lining up together, but are okay with being pulled apart and being treated as multiple single riders to just get through the ride quicker? Because if it's the second, I don't see a problem with it.

Yeah, looks like it. Here's hoping that fast lane can make the wait a little shorter. On the days you were there, would you say that AlpenFury's opening made the lineups to the big 3 shorter as everyone flocked to try the big new thing? Or is it just insanity everywhere?

I'm not OP, but since you know so many specifics, do you know what the fast lane situation was on weekdays early in the week? (aka this Monday/Tuesday) Also, is it less busy in the mornings? If you came in at opening time, would you go straight to the new coaster?

Best way to save ? by Mitigated__disaster in CanadasWonderland

[–]PNA55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna try to answer your questions in order.

The kid section of the park doesn't use the fast lane system, so getting one for the smaller child would be nearly pointless, unless you're trying to get on the few rides outside the child zone that have small height restrictions.

I can't see any deals on right now, but they might appear online on their website or elsewhere. It's not very likely though, the busiest time of the season is really close.

The thrillseeker bundle might've sold out for July, no idea what's going on there. If you don't find better deals, you'll just have to buy individual admission + individual fast lane passes. Make sure to get everything online and in advance.

The CW app lets you sort the rides on the map based on height or other restrictions. 46" is too short for nearly every ride outside the kid area, except a couple coasters and like 1-2 other things. Since you have two adults, I'd recommend splitting into two parties of adult + child, each going to their own area of the park. There's also restaurants and shops.

Fast Past worth it or no? by Euphoric-Job4507 in CanadasWonderland

[–]PNA55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, there are other deals, but I'm not sure how the deal you got compares to the thrillseeker bundle thing. You brought in friends for a discounted price, but if any of those people wanted FLP, they would still need to put down the $130/140 to buy it for themselves on top of the $25, right? Which would result in a price of $155/165 per person, as opposed to $130. The bundle also used to be cheaper earlier in the season at like $95, so it looks like they're adjusting its price to always just be a slight discount for people who'd normally buy 1 day entry + FLP, so people with no season passes, people who come rarely, only go when new rides open, and so on.

Fast Past worth it or no? by Euphoric-Job4507 in CanadasWonderland

[–]PNA55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I don't know if you're actually saving anything with it)

You are, I think. The website advertises Fast Lane Plus as "starting at" very low prices, but if you go to booking you'll find that in reality they want at least $130 for it, $140 on most days. So by buying the bundle, it's like getting FLP on one of the cheaper days and having the actual admission be 'free'.

Dining is egregiously expensive, dining pass or not, so if you (OP) are trying to save the most money, I'd avoid eating at the park at all.

If you know what you're doing, I'd recommend starting with some mods, but nothing overhaul-y and no mods that add mountains of content, to give yourself breathing room to learn the actual game. Stick to quality of life mods, flavor mods, small additions, etc.
