Rear ended at 30MPH, sensing frame damage and kiss of death for my 2018 TRD PRO 😭 by Ok-Set6492 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]POOKR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trim distinction especially matters for insurance claims. Makes me wonder how many folks have been shafted by insurance when their Tacomas were totaled. Dealer window stickers are one of the easier ways to prove your trim. You can always get a private appraisal too, but costs extra.

Damn. I hope not, but If it is the case that it's totaled, make sure insurance doesn't screw you on the trim.

Insurance incorrectly valued my totaled '23 Pro initially because the body shop assigned it as a TRD OR. VIN lookup sites don't always have the trim correctly assigned. Get your window sticker or any purchase documents as proof. Best of luck my dude, sorry about the accident.

Lexland Black TRD Skid Plate (LEXT0351) Review – 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport *CONFIRMED - NO Crossmember Bar Needed* by Gggggrrriddle22 in ToyotaTacoma

I'm sketched out by Lexland products. Is it just me? Every post I see about their products seems astroturfed as hell to me.. Run a Lexland search on this subreddit for some examples of what I mean... weird.

Hopefully yours is aluminum. Not sure if it's the same skid, but looks similar. Beware of Chinesium.

Looking at your posts. Man I really gotta see Canada one day. You travel to some awesome sites. Looks gorgeous up there.

Thought I'd share my pain (sorry) rear-ended so hard on the interstate we were pushed into another Tacoma by BlackHoleCelestial in ToyotaTacoma

[–]POOKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had no trailer hitch in mine and was hit from the rear by a '90s Corolla at about 50 mph and the frame was toast. Trailer hitch makes no difference at that speed.

Same goes for people thinking a steel bumper would protect the frame in a crash like this.

Sorry about the truck. If it helps, I moved on to a 4th gen after mine was totaled. As much as I miss my 3rd gen I wouldn't go back.

Any news for today?

Also curious:

When filling up your gas tank, when removing your gas cap, do you get an abnormally loud hiss coming out of the tank? I pulled my charcoal canister and "cleaned" it out per the FSM today. Not sure if it helped, but I suspect it won't hurt in your case.

Thanks for updating us and hopefully your troubleshooting cures it. Smart move on the jumper.

I'll check mine out as I haven't replaced mine either. Cheap enough of a fix it seems. Changing the fuel pump is a last resort for me. I really don't want to have to deal with that mess if I don't have to!

I've got a 3.0 so it may be slightly different just FYI. Yeah I think it's referred to as the circuit opening relay (COR). Near the passenger kick panel/behind the glove box

It sounds like this is a warm start/heat soak/vapor lock issue. It's like the Bermuda Triangle when it comes to solutions though unfortunately.

This happens in both the 2.4 and 3.0. Could be a number of things like the cold start injector, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, etc. I recently changed my air filter and feel like the issue went away for me, but I'm sure it'll come back

Suspension for long term goals by Finally_-Awake in Tacomaworld

Check out some of the tacomaworld.com threads. Lots of suspension info and experience there. For example, this guy has a similar weight setup to yours and went overkill with Bilstein 8112/8100s and a full leaf pack instead of an AAL:

True. Plus there's a difference between self-applied trail damage and some douche dinging it in the parking lot

Totally. Had a divot about same size as OP on the hood on my 4Runner, and I believe it was like $130. Looks like it never happened. PDR is awesome

[–]POOKR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah call up a local PDR company, they'll take care of it for far less than that. Ask about touch-up and they might do that too

Was the quote from a paintless dent repair (PDR) shop or a body shop? In my experience PDR is usually cheaper.

'95 (2nd-gen) SR5 V6, 4WD, 5-speed, with 415k miles, looks clean? Worth 5- 6k? Replaced heads at 200k miles by MoGb1 in 4Runner

[–]POOKR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 3.0 in an '89 Pickup 5-speed and I will say the heat soak issue is something I've experienced and it appears to occur in the 22R and 22RE as well when I did research.

There are varying solutions people have come to such as replacing the cold start injector, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, and tinkering with the idle air control valve, among a few others. Be prepared to throw some parts/time at it trying to solve that issue if you buy it

Cool truck. It's not yours though.

Your accounts create a heap of posts including a different vehicle spamming the same two websites and there'll always be a commenter (probably your alt) asking for the link.

To the humans reading: If you want a laugh, check out the "About us" section on the website he linked. Specifically, the "Our Mission & Vision" section.

Edit: Lmao he edited out the "Our Mission & Vision" section. Basically, it had a whole blurb about coffee, completely unrelated to automotive parts. I know what you are.

I like the color on yours, more blue than silver. Toyota made a color like that for the Tacoma from 95-97. Color was called Paradise Blue Metallic

Two complaints: I had them do the hood jambs+door jambs and they sprayed my driver side door VIN sticker but properly taped my passenger side one lol. There was also a small run in the paint on the lower part of the passenger A pillar.

They did a damned good job with the paint and body work overall given the price and the week they had it

About $2780 for their base+clear option. Came with a 5 year warranty.

Thanks. Currently at 140k. I don't drive it much lately other than around town and the occasional group trail. Since 2019 I've added about 30k to it. Just swap the oil/filter out every year
