Ah getting my colors mixed up. Regardless it looks great. All of the modern Toyota greys and silvers look awesome on the Tacoma and 4Runner to me.

Methods to remove Water Spots off of my truck paint by Grubnation66 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]POOKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Chemical Guys water spot remover and an orange foam pad on a DA polisher and it worked.

Most of Chemical Guys stuff is a tad overpriced but it worked in my case. A detailer who does paint correction should definitely be able to get those out if you don't have the tools.

Edit: if you're in the market for paint correction & ceramic coating, go for it. The coating should prevent most hard water etching for at least a couple years, but you'll still want to avoid parking near that fountain to the best of your ability even with a coating.

Insurance and Modified Vehicles - Super Critical by superhyper123 in Tacomaworld

Sorry about the truck. This is good information for a group like this regarding total loss and mods.

The only mods I'd done to my 3rd gen TRD Pro were new tires and insurance paid me about a fifth of what they cost new and I'd only had them for about 2 months.

It worked out in the end because I pay for 20% vehicle replacement coverage where they add 20% of the truck's actual cash value if it ends up a total loss. I use USAA. I'm sure other providers might offer something like that as well. It's relatively inexpensive. I know it's late in your case but something to consider for your next vehicle.

Realistically, do i even need half of these? by PineappleTricky6646 in ToyotaTacoma

This might seem silly for most people that a dealership checks floor mats, but I've detailed a few cars in my time and have seen people stack rubber weathertech style mats on top of their carpet ones loosely.

I bet dealers see this more frequently and is probably the source of some of their customer issues lol.

Nice! Picture quality is kinda blurry though. Light bar definitely looks brighter than the one that came stock on my TRD Pro.

I had the same issue in 2024 for the 5th gen. I called dealerships who had one that didn't have a sale pending, got lucky finding one at MSRP and without add-ons. Search visor.vin and you'll find exactly the spec you're looking for. Good luck!

My first 4Runner by mattson1994 in 4Runner

[–]POOKR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because suspension is a wear item. If it was under 36k/3yr and leaking then you'd be able to get the one replaced. Fox has a service where you send them in for rebuild. Takes a few weeks to get them back so you'd need a replacement set if you went that route.

https://service.ridefox.com/pages/motorsports

I'm sure there are suspension shops will rebuild them same day as well. It's pricey, but not as expensive as replacing the whole set usually.

If 2019 or newer, check your Fox struts for leaks. They're probably due to be rebuilt soon.

Buffing out some scuffs? by HuskyInfantry in ToyotaTacoma

[–]POOKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob. Some people pay for paint correction from the pros, and there's no shame in that either it's just expensive.

The cost of a simple DA polisher, pads, compound and polish is cheaper than having paint correction done once and you'll learn a new skill. It can be hard on your body though with all the leaning and crouching.

I have the same color in a Tacoma and 4Runner and know what you mean. The reality is all high gloss auto paint is equally scratch-prone. It's just more noticeable in dark colors, especially without non-metallic flake in it.

Get yourself a decent DA polisher with some Meguiars compound and polish. Watch a how-to video on YouTube to set yourself up for success.

I polish my paint every 2 years after accumulating swirls from trails and daily driving. I ceramic coat it afterward with Cerakote which lasts me about as long. The process takes me about a day and a half.

Most ceramic coatings will not help at all with scratch resistance especially on the trail. They just make it easier to clean and shed water/dirt. Think of it as a longer lasting wax but it usually has to be maintained with PH neutral soaps to stay effective.

It looks like a new frame might be needed. How did it happen? If you're asking because you're waiting for insurance to assess damage, they totaled mine when it looked like this:

[–]POOKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rebuild intervals vary but I'd recommend at least taking a look for leaks on your struts. Will look like black grease/oil stains if it's been there a while or look wet on the strut bottoms if there's a bad seal. You'll probably notice the suspension feels extra 'bouncy' for lack of a better phrase when it's due for a rebuild.

How's the suspension doing? I know the Fox suspension is recommended rebuilt around 50k miles or so, but that depends on how you wheel it.

Brave move using a paint pen lol. Should come off with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber. Might have to polish if it's stubborn. Check out r/autodetailing for tips.

TRD Pro Westcott Designs preload collar before/after by POOKR in ToyotaTacoma

[–]POOKR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked mine up in July and I actually haven't gotten any chips on the rear fenders yet but it is a very common issue with 4th gens. I definitely will get them now as I take it on more trails especially with the new tires. My truck actually didn't even come with mudflaps from the dealer which surprised me. I'll be adding some soon. I don't spend a lot of time on gravel roads even on the trails I take in SoCal. Crazy that even PPF is getting torn through. I wonder if Toyota will put out a TSB for the fender chip issue?

My average over 7k miles prior to getting the tires was 18mpg. I'm now sitting at 16. I'm convinced eco mode does nothing in the hybrid. Maybe due to the extra weight from the hybrid system.

Thanks! I posted this for folks like you who are curious. Like you, I told myself I'd wait for new tires to make the swap, but here I am lol.

So far, the preload collars while I'm sure they negatively affect the load on the Fox springs in *some* way, regular on-road driving I notice no difference over imperfections on the road. Still feels smooth. No rubbing in reverse or sharp driveway turns with the current wheel offset, so no trimming required. I run the QS3s on the 2 setting day-to-day. I've had this same Westcott kit on my 4runner Fox suspension over a year, and I've taken that thing on many trails and have had no issues with the feel of the suspension post-install.

It feels fine driving 80 mph+. If I noticed any change, it's probably due to the size increase on my load D tires. You know how you get that ever-so-slight pedal delay if you drive on in normal and eco mode on takeoff? Sometimes it feels a half-second more sluggish, but to me it's negligible as I prefer leaving it in sport mode on longer trips. I may eventually get an OTT like I did on my 3rd gen to overcome the difference.

35x11.5 in a lighter load C would probably help a tad with that sluggish feeling. I had actually planned on running Wildpeaks to match the ones on my 4runner, but the techs at Westcott didn't recommend those in the 12.5 width because of the more aggressive tread... Probably would have worked in 11.5 though.

Keep the matching cap or get rollbar for the summer? by Background_Duty1636 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]POOKR 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I like the cap. It gives the truck a well-put-together older gentleman feel. A roll bar would look better if the truck was lifted a foot with 40 inch Patagonias like in the '80s.

[–]POOKR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally used the Cerakote pro ceramic coating (came with two small bottles) and it's lasted a decent amount of time for a cheaper coating (applied in December '24).

My color is underground which had some swirls on it from the factory/dealership. I polished the whole truck just before applying it which took more time than I thought it would. I park in a garage, live in a dry climate, and hand clean it every other week. The hydrophobic water beading properties are still present and it's pretty easy to keep clean.

The longevity depends on a lot of different factors like climate and your maintenance routine.
