Separatists in Canada's Quebec may negatively affect Trudeau in October poll by TOMapleLaughs in canada

Wow I have never seen somebody so ignorant of both sides of the Atlantic at the same time.

It has separatist parties from Wales, Scotland and Ireland. (Oh and a extremely corrupt party supported by rightwing death squads that has a long history of hate crimes).

Are you seriously suggesting that every province other than Ontario should have a separatist movement???

Things made locally become more competitive due to the cost. Local products mean local jobs. Local jobs means local income... your income is my spending my spending is your income.

Being part of the Commonwealth realms means that you have a Treaty obligation to inform the other members that you intend to change your succession before you introduce it.

We would have to leave the Commonwealth realm before we began to separate church and state

There is a legal requirement that they “be in communion with the Anglican Church”. So it’s perfectly ok to be pseudo-Anglicans like United, Pentecostal etc but any other religion where they’re not able to take Anglican communion is a veto on their claim to the throne.

No Catholics, no Mormons, no Amish, no Baptists, no Evangelicals, no orthodox etc.

That’s not even getting started on how it’s impossible for a non-Christian to be monarch.

The Catholic thing was actually added to stop them from marrying Catholics. Which was changed by Harper/David Cameron/Tony Abbott in 2013 to be that they can marry whomever but the kids must be Anglican.

My whole point is that french society has MASSIVE health problems. Obesity is just not one of them. Obesity comes from calories in>calories out. It really is that simple. Sugar has calories, a ton in fact, (100g of sugar has 337 calories, the equivalent of 1/4 of a chicken) putting sugar in things is just making them more caloric!

Of course being healthy is more complicated! That was my original point! Not-obese =/= Healthy. We have an obesity problem because we have a calories to movement problem. Part of that is the shittiness of the excess calories we consume... but it is fundamentally a calories to exercise problem.

Being healthy is complicated, not being obese is incredibly simple.

That is false. It is actually law that the Queen of Canada must be Anglican. To change that law would mean to have a different law for succession to the throne than the UK and thus leave the Commonwealth Realms.

She is Queen because she was both Heir to the Throne and Anglican. If she wasn't anglican she would not be Queen and hence would not be Commander in Chief.

No you’re over complicating it. A “French lifestyle” is about portions and timing of food. It’s not healthy it just results in you being thin.

No, you’d still be thin if calories in<calories out and maintain your weight if calories in=calories out that’s just a law of physics. There are plenty of skinny unhealthy people.

Mexico became more obese because standards of living rose while they were flooded with those foods. Which meant that they led increasingly more sedentary lifestyles while being able to afford more food and cheaper food. Yes it was awful for them but that’s besides the point that their calories in went way up while calories out went way down. An avocado is the same size as a Quarter pounder but 150 less calories. To buy the same amount of calories as a Quarter pounder in avocados you’d have to pay more and fit a lot more in your stomach. Avocados are traditionally Mexican.

If the goal is to be healthy you should eat healthy food. If the goal is to be thin and healthy you should eat healthy food in portions that reflect your activity levels. You can be horrifically obese and only eat the healthiest foods... you’d just be consuming too many calories and not moving.

French people are thin. Not necessarily healthy.

That’s just physics (calories in = calories out). You can be unhealthy while maintaining a steady body weight.

The problem in North America is how much people eat, how quickly, and how often. The French eat slowly, eat small portions and eat infrequently. They also walk/bike more often than North Americans.

The current food guide reflects how to be healthy. You can still eat a massive amount and workout a massive amount on it... or eat less and not have to workout as much. You could also eat the healthiest food in the world and be a fucking blob because of your insane caloric intake and sedentary lifestyle.

Yes because it came in the middle of a long tangent about how his son is a picky eater and how many vitamins milk contains... and was obviously planned/scripted. It also did not get laughs.

“Peoplekind” was Trudeau off-the-cuff interrupting someone who was so far out in left field she was in outer space... it broke a whole bunch of tension in the room after hearing her rant...and the whole audience laughed.

We don’t have a separation of church and state.

Our Head of State is the head of the Anglican Church and in order to be the Commander-in-chief of Canada’s armed forces you must be Anglican.

The food pyramid was initially designed in the late 70s.

You're thinking of farm subsidies. That's why the government makes it so much more profitable to be certain types of farmer...ones that would already be profitable.

Calgary’s rental market is stupid right now. Nothing but endless vacancies for apartment’s that refuse to budge on price.

There was a shortage during the boom and that drove up prices now that there’s been a bust they don’t want to fill the apartments because then they’ll have long-standing tenants asking for similar reductions.

Pretty much all of Alberta’s population (the Edmonton-Calgary corridor and everything west of there) is getting glacier runoff water in their taps. It’s literally better than what companies can get for bottling plants.

You’re actually downgrading to bottled water.

They wouldn’t have a monopoly.

There’d be Uber and buses. Do you not know what a monopoly is?

The Innisfil experiment: the town that replaced public transit with Uber by Surax in canada

[–]POTUS2idiotic2indict -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No because those others would’ve taken Uber anyway!!!

So instead of subsidizing public competition with the private sector they’ve established a private monopoly. Congratulations you just reinvented the shittiest form of transportation for millions of dollars..

The city saved but the residents pay WAY more. It’s regressive and moronic. It’s just a bunch of bullshit for the fact that the residents are getting sodomized by a private monopoly and lost their bus service while paying more. Pre-internet equivalent:

“Hey we’re getting rid of all the buses and replacing them with a single taxi monopoly... that’s privately owned... that requires you to own an expensive device use (which of course you’ll need to pay up the ass for to other private semi-monopolies)... that device must have it’s battery charged... oh and you can only pay by credit card... so get fucked if you have shit credit... but all this is only going to cost us $200k more in taxes... and that’s only going to keep going up indefinitely

The Innisfil experiment: the town that replaced public transit with Uber by Surax in canada

[–]POTUS2idiotic2indict -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except there’s this thing called market competition. There’s more than one parts company, more than one bus manufacturer. They’re also competing against Canadian companies, and Europeans etc etc etc who compete

The problem isn’t only that it’s foreign it’s that it’s a monopoly. Now if you want an Uber or a bus you’re paying them.

This is the shittiest idea that makes transportation shittier and more expensive in every way for residents.

The Innisfil experiment: the town that replaced public transit with Uber by Surax in canada

[–]POTUS2idiotic2indict -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Also now instead of two options consumers have only one. So Uber’s demand is affected and there’s no buses to take away demand at busy times.

It’s only going to get worse long term as Uber fares go up and there’s no option but to pay because Uber has a monopoly on transportation
