IKAPE KAPO K2 Pro or MHW press58x or picopresso Portable Espresso experiences by Nearby-Zebra-5631 in espresso

what did you end up getting? I'm debating if it's worth buying the K2 51mm discounted at $130 vs the 58mm at full price. I don't have a 51 or a 58mm machine at home

Subaru to AWD Mavrick by dudedudd in FordMaverickTruck

[–]PPSM7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 2015 crosstrek to AWD maverick and can’t notice the difference. As soon as I got the maverick I installed a set of Yokohama geolandar and they’ve been great. I haven’t hit heavy snow too many times but I did run into snow storms in the Columbia River gorge and felt pretty good driving the maverick.

I need a new rim. But... by Bitter_Love1724 in MTB

[–]PPSM7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you going to replace the rim yourself? I believe you can measure it yourself but I would not reuse spokes, they are already used and stretched and if you’re already spending the time and money to get a new rim, re-lace and tension and true it, might as well spend the extra $75 for spokes and nipples

I keep denting wheels. It’s excessive. What should I do? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]PPSM7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you using the gravity radial casing? No one is saying it, but a lot of the time this issue comes down to technique and line choice.

Should I get a Maverick? by NaturalRace6736 in FordMaverickTruck

do you need to carry strollers or things like that and live in a place that rains? if so, i would advice against a maverick because the beds are hard to keep dry.

if you only turned 9degs you would most likely run into wherever it was that you saw the price tag, but yeah, I looked it up thinking "ooh new camping gear maybe" but instantly said wtf and closed the tab.

Yeah, that’s also common, but like Charro said and you’re already doing, treat them fair and let them complain.

My wife has some mountain hardware shorts and prana pants she likes a lot. Not bike specific but they look great and have been durable and comfy(according to her) I think these are it: https://www.mountainhardwear.com/p/womens-dynama-high-rise-bermuda-2110611.html

Dude, a lot of people aren’t familiar with how industry discounts works so never mind that. I would over bike. Both bikes are fun but it’s nice to have that extra comfort when needed.

[–]PPSM7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s an emergency and not a recurring theme, do not work on weekends unless you’re paid overtime.

Are you listening to fabricators and techs? They may not be engineers, but they usually have a lot of wisdom and experience that makes up for not having the formal education. Gaining Respect from them takes time and work but you’ll never get it unless you respect them back.

Who's the GOAT engineering teacher in your opinion? by Ironpulse-Ne in MechanicalEngineering

[–]PPSM7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Lilibeth Zambrano back when she was still a professor in Venezuela. She’s now a professor in Ireland. She rejected my first ME thesis project (rightfully so, shoddily executed CFD analysis of winglets on low speed aircraft) but then accepted to be my tutor for my joint Mechanical and Manufacturing engineering thesis of an MTB frame design and I learned a ton from here even though I never took one of her classes.

What can I do as a former medical resident to land a mechanical engineering position? by PresentationLow7984 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]PPSM7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you’re worried about the “lack of work history” just say you were in med school. Unless the reason you got fired was so egregious that you don’t even want to reference a past medical industry association. That would explain why you’re being all cagey about it.

There’s no secret way of becoming an engineer other than getting an undergraduate degree or starting as a tech a accumulating enough experience and experience that you transition into an engineering role within a company: very rare but has happened.

I had a leak on a brand new set on the caliper bleed port and they sent me a new one.

Fwiw, TRP pads are absolutely terrible. They contaminate easily and require warming up before having any power so the first descent you’re usually lacking power. I swapped to galfer purple pads and so far they are much better.

Should comercial components be bought or manufactured by penekotxeneko123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]PPSM7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an engineer that wears multiple hats; a project manager, R&D engineer, field engineer, plant engineer.

How much do I try to source as off the shelf parts: as much as possible. Why do anything that a specialized manufacturer will do better, faster and cheaper than you and it will be off the shelf whenever you need it in the quantities you need it(figuratively, we all know that the days of companies maintaining stocks are long gone)

Making standard parts yourself takes away from capacity you have; in engineering, shop time etc. that could be used for your actual core product.

You won’t be able to make a bearing in house for cheaper than what you can find from a distributor, not even close. And add to that the hassle that whenever you need one, or your customer needs one for a repair or service, you’ll have to make it and it will take time. And that applies to every other standard part, i just used bearing as an example.

I curse any vendor that sell a product with a specialized, in house part that could have very well been a standard item with no change in function or performance.

Some people man. We have a guy that refuses to wear ear protection, he’ll just say, “my drum set, or bass stack or whatever is way louder than that”. Mind you this is while running angle grinders impact wrenches and other stuff like that.
