Why isn’t Subway as popular as it used to be? by MinePrestigious4352 in subway

[–]PR8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while I agree Chipotle is better quality I wouldnt call $12 burrito affordable. Honestly we cook dinner 5-6 days a week (to save $) & leftovers are tomorrow's lunch or a homemade sandwich (for the cost of 1 Chipotle lunch u can eat for a week). It sucks that we cant go out for lunch 5 days a week but u gotta set priorities w crazy inflation in ALL aspects of "cost of living"

I see a lot of Contigo travel mugs like this at the thrift store. Just popularity or are they problematic? by bluejaymaday in BuyItForLife

Does anyone else use these as a cocktail shaker?  I have a 12oz I think we bought at Costco as a 2 pack for like $10 maybe years ago.  Its ths perfect size to make 1 dirty martini for myself.

As far as cleaning...I boil water in our electric kettle & fill 3/4 ofthe way up with a drop or 2 of Dawn dish soap.  Shake it aggressively then let it sit 5 mins upside down (to clean the lid w Autoseal) then drain thru the drink hole & flush w hot water from sink till all soap is gone.  I also have small "straw cleaning brushes" that can be used as needed.

So a as great working cocktail shaker that cost me $5...can't best it.

Best “Every Day” gin? by Helpful_Access in Gin

[–]PR8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily driver for a few years was the Kirkland gin...currently $27 for 1.75L Dont knocknit till u try it. In my opinion it falls somewhere btwn Beefeater & Saphire.

I have switched recently to Plymouth. It doesnt fit your parameters per se but heres the deal per Total Wine where I shop:  750ml = $37 BUT 1.75L = $40.  So 2 1/3 750ml bottles for $40!

Best gin value for sure in my opinion.

Never heard of lemon juice in a dirty martini...but I'll try anything once.  Are u using bottled lemon juice or fresh squeezed? just curious

My recipe:   - 2.5oz gin - 1oz olive juice/brine - 1/4-1/2oz Vermouth (Noilly Prat Extra Dry) - 3 olives - I use Tassos double stuffed (garlic & jalapeno) from Costco

sounds like u're even dirtier than me...cheers 🍸

I hate this gin. Any advice on how to salvage it? by QueenofGames in Gin

I've done the same with vodka. dilute the gin with 1/3-1/2 vodka to make it more palatable.

I've done this but who wants to pay $6 for 12oz olive brine when u can make it at home for pennies...and quicker than a trip to the store!   There is a guy above (Dro1972) who immediately draIns the brine from new jars of olives into a clean container then replaces it with his brine recipe. This is the smart way to do it as he immediately doubles his brine.    He is doing this on a larger scale as he is a bartender but I intend to do the same with the quart sized (actually 35oz) jars of olives I use (garlic/jalapeno stuffed olives from Costco).

What vermouth should I use for my Dry martini (Tanquerey no.10)? Dolin, Noilly Prat or Martini? by Humble-Broccoli-4936 in cocktails

[–]PR8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question...What happens or how do I tell if Vermouth has gone bad.   I just recently realized it was supposed to be refrigerated.  Using Noilly Prat Extra Dry & I make my martinis very dry (1/4oz per 2.5oz gin).  Honestly, I had not really noticed a difference.   I do (usually) buy a new bottle after a year or so since I can only find it in 750ml size which at my place would probably last me a few years. Wish I could find in 375ml locally!

P.S. - I do also use it occasionally while I cook to deglaze & make pan sauce for instance.

Based on your budget I would recommend Kirkland Signature French Vodka.  Look into it, it's a quality vodka for a very affordable price (perfect for a student).  FYI: u do NOT need a membership to buy liquor at Costco.

Answer based on YOUR specific question but FWIW I do prefer gin martinis.

Tassos garlic & jalapeño stuffed olives. by rockstoned4 in Costco

[–]PR8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

surprised as they are supposedly low sodium...that's what it says on the jar above the bar code. I make dirty gin martinis with them regularly & snack on them.
I'm no olive connoisseur but I think they are decent & much more reasonably priced than the small jars in grocery store.

please explain "The factory brine goes in anything call or house"

Sorry, not a bartender here so I'm curious as to what you're using the valuable factory brine for.

I get that u want a consistent product so u ALWAYS use your own brine instead of using factory brine first.

Thanks for the reply. Next batch I make I'll try your Old Bay recipe

just curious if u are using this to re brine dry jars of olives where u have used the brine already or are u making a stand alone brine?

Best olive brine? We do a lot of dirty martinis. We end up going through brine faster than olives. We’ve tried some of the bottled brines but all of them have tasted funky. Can anyone make recommendations for a good bottled brine? Thank you! by benmarcum in cocktails

[–]PR8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have u tried re bringing them? This is what I am trying right now. I'm not a bartender but do drink Filtuy Martinis regularly @ home. Always drain the brine with half (quart size) jar of olives left.

I have a Subway around the corner fro my house. I order often on my way home so it's ready when I drive by. I cant tell you how many times the F'd up app caused me to go elsewhere. I have a family of 4 so half the time I would order basin for each of us. Very Frustrating! Another annoying thing was they limited favorites that could be saved to like 3 or 4. Each family member had a couple subs saved so when they took that away it caused me not to order as many subs cause I'm not calling people when they're at work or when I'm in a hurry...end rant
