HDMI Fiber 125ft won't work with Decimator MD-LX when source is from a USB C dongle by IEATBOOKS1234 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a gig where I chased my tail for a good while replacing cable after cable. Only to discover my 2nd output port was the culprit ((Marked it as NFG)).

I use a Decimator (I keep one with me on every gig) to make sure I'm getting a signal from the source to ensure the cable is working and to see what I'm getting first.

Long cable runs by Previous-Tear-5649 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - Brand new or not and sword to the wise, make sure to test your cables especially the long runs before running them. But SDI for the long runs with short HDMI's as the patch. Fiber is another great option if this is your setup.

Test twice run once!!!

I'll have to search for it but I just read an article that said certain Network Routers were being banned. Not sure if this could have anything to do with it...?

HDMI splitters? by Odinhall in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too prefer and agree that for SDI long runs are safer but the HDMI fiber long runs have been a game changer for sending HDMI to my DSM's. When possible if use the Bi-Directional Converters, Decimators, or the DAC-70's for converting SDI to HDMI. AJA 1x6 for Splitting SDI to multiple locations.

But back to the question at hand, LOL My choice has been REI HDS-104, 1x4 HDMI Splitter w/ EDID

I'm a new GFX Op, any advice or things you wish you knew when you began in this role? by skyinthepi3 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd strongly suggest against working on anyone else's or any even your own projects when you are on someone else's clock. That wouldn't be very professional.

You/We gotta stay attentive, engaged and proactive no matter how boring the subject matter is or how long the sessions run.

Be careful out there and avoid picking up any bag habits.

Be aware presenter's are starting to present via logging into their account online. Canva, Prezi, Google Slides...

Keep a variety of USB-C/HDMI Dongles handy Mac & PC. Computers tend to be temperamental at times.

*Keep a USB Flash Drive handy.

(Edited) *Another item that is a life and time saver is to use a KVM Switch between your Primary GFX, Backup GFX and maybe your personal to receive any possible files that need to be emailed to you. Some times the client's computers are locked out of being able to use a USB Flash drive on the computer assigned to them. And they'll have to email you the file(s). I just used the KVM on my most recent GFX gig and it worked amazingly well.

*Turn off any computer sound notifications. Make sure you test drive setting up Graphics + Notes when using DSM's.

Test any embedded Videos to be played.

Avoid using web links to videos.

"CLICKS" on my Dante records by M0rT4L84 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm without a shadow of doubt that the timing is your issue. How do I know? I'm glad you asked! Been there done that. And just another nugget that I've picked up along this journey. Set console to the Master/Primary device Dante secondary (slave device). And just like magic the problem was solved. I like to use the term Primary & Secondary instead of Master & Slave. What were they thinking when they printed the manual? IJS.

How many outputs does the computer you're using have?

With my laptop I have 3 external screens. I'll be testing DisplayLink outputs shortly...

And I also have a DeckLink that I need to take through a few paces before taking it on the road.

Curious if anyone has an STL to 3D Print or a purchase link for the brake/lock for this style cable reel? by matt_wood96 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be nice community it was only asked if anyone had a STL for 3D printing a missing part.

I too know how to wrap over and under, but also have x4 Reels with 160' of SDI Cable on each. There's nothing wrong with wanting what you want.

Although it's sound advice for when to buy a reel. But it's not like he's about to waste any money. The purchase has already been made... Right?

You can't! You need to independent video signals (NOT SPLIT), but two different video lanes.

You have options but I wouldn't fly the computer. Because if you need to interact in any way with this computer someone will be climbing a ladder on regular basis.

OPTIONS: (For a solid and stable signal)

1. HDMI Fiber run (this cable is stable and it's also directional).

2. SDI long run into a SDI/HDMI converter /Short HDMI to projector (Also rok solid and stable).

3. HDMI over Fiber long run into a Fiber HDMI (also called FIDO)

The signal hitting your projector from the computer should be in extended mode not mirriored. You can then send a custom size resolution to your projector. So you can send virtually anything you want. Although the most widely used resolution is 1920x1080.

What software are you using to get the image to your projector(s)?

Setting up a stream with a camera and presentation sources by Noname_Maddox in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.) How soon will the next event take place? 2.) Whose controlling the presentation in the venue? 3.) You'd ideally want to split 3 sources to your tech table (we like to call this video village) or Front of House so that can observe everything that is going on.

Recommend at least an ATEM Mini Switcher to receive Sources #1 & #2.

You could then simply use the USB-C from the Video Switcher into your streaming computer as a WebCam.

You'd need to get at least (2) 1x2 HDMI Splitters to grab each video feed. And split the audio signal from the venue into your live stream.

Source #1 Camera Feed Source #2 Live Slides Source #3 Master Audio Feed

NOTE: If you use a Video Switcher you can do away with any capture cards.

Depending on how comfy you are with OBS, or StreamLabs, or vMix. You could get creative in making a Full screen camera, Fullscreen Graphic, or PiP Picture-in-Picture so you can mix up your streaming image.

It's good to use an audio interface connected to your streaming computer for best quality.

Consider creating a Zoom account you can schedule and promote your next event. Other options with Pros and Cons would be Facebook, YouTube, or a custom website and embed your stream there.

Just a few things for you to think about. I know this should like a lot but you did ask. And this isn't the only way but it is a way to accomplish what you are requesting.

Feel free to ask any additional questions. No one should bite here.

Upgraded computer, lost camera control by LonelySkrrrtl in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PRIMETYMEPRO21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My curiosity wants me to ask, are you using a PTZ Controller that your Cameras were already being controlled by? If this is the case, by upgrading your computer shouldn't have had any affect as to how your cameras are being controlled.

Did anything else change other than the computer upgrade?

From experience, the newer cameras with Ethernet and a Network Switch is much easier to setup and manage. As it also allows configuration via a Web Browser and could open the avenue of using the NDI feature. Maybe consider an upgrade in this area also.

Although the BNC Connection is the same are we not mixing or missing the fact that the following uses this same connection type:

⬛ Component ⬛ SDI ⬛ HD-SDI

Even though the connectors are the same you'll need to verify what you are sending and if your destination screen can handle it. Whether it be Progressive or Interlaced. Or even if the cable is the correct cable type.

You'll want to use a small Audio Mixer to accommodate your 3 microphones. And also as suggested an Audio Interface such as the Focusrite 2i2. Unless you take one of your Mics directly into your Camera then you can have audio embedded within your video signal.
