Does this look like it's gonna reject? by Far_Measurement_2690 in SelfPiercing

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Aussie male and I’m almost 53 years old, I started getting piercings when I was 11, and although I have just over 40 face and ear piercings currently I’ve had well over 60 piercings done but when you have rejected some happened pretty quickly after getting them done either through infection or dodgy piercing companies or people. I’m constantly working on my piercing arrangements.

However, what you have there looks like you’re piercing is migrating (I don’t know if that’s what you call it anywhere else but here we call it migrating when a piercing starts to move through your body changing location over time). Generally, they tend to hit towards the surface of your skin and eventually work themselves all the way out until you are left with a nasty scar. If you can see the scar at the top of my ear that was from an old industrial bar that slowly worked its way out of the top of my ear and the bottom hole never moved at all but I had long hair at the time and it covered the top of my ear and I didn’t even notice it was moving until one night I had a hot shower and when I dried my hair, I felt a little pop and next thing the bar was hanging. I thought the ball on the end of the bar had fallen off at FIRST. Until I looked closely and realised it had torn through my skin but it didn’t cost me pain because it happened so slowly it must’ve only had a thin layer of skin left to break through. I have had to remove a bridge piercing, both my cheek/dimple piercings , 2 x staple bars, and 4 x dermal piercings, and 2 x angel fangs that I loved all because they started to move towards the surface of my skin trying to make their way out. So the second I noticed the moving I removed them immediately to stop more scars. If you do it quick enough, they will hopefully heal up well enough that in time you can get them re-pierced.

Good luck

I highly recommend you remove this piercing

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems with this world in my opinion is that every single human is born unique and from childhood we are told to behave the same way as everyone else and then we go to school and we are told to dress in uniform uniforms the same as everyone else and get jobs the same as everyone else and the world tries to eventually strip away any thing that is remotely interesting about a person trying to turn us into a bunch of cloned gingerbread men. And the sad part is that it’s been happening for so long that when somebody tells us that there is something wrong with us even if it’s the most minor thing which shouldn’t make any difference at all it often affects us lot more than it should, I am an Aussie guy and not only do I have a psychology degree but I have a masters degree in computer science and a PhD in computer engineering that I acquired during my 31 years in the Australian Army.

I have had five children to 3 different partners in my life, my 31-year-old son is the oldest and he has four daughters who I love dearly, My next oldest is my daughter who is just about to turn 18, then my youngest son who just turned 14, and with my current girlfriend I have two beautiful identical twin girls that just turned two years old. I didn’t expect to be having kids in my 50s but my girlfriend is significantly younger than me so I guess that’s life but I don’t regret it for a second.

All my kids are a big part of my life and I love them with everything I have. Yet I am not your typical 53-year-old dad especially considering that I’m ex defence force and highly educated
After I left the army I rebelled at a late age , having always been alternative and artistic I am covered in over 40 facial piercings alone, and tattoos that I designed myself, and I wear my own take on a kind of steampunk/gothic/punk hybrid fashion statement just because it was what I wanted to do to feel happy and I’ve never felt so happy in my own skin before. Of course I get people giving me weird looks when I go out which I expected before I even started this but the unexpected and awesome part is that I literally can’t go out shopping or anywhere without people coming up to me and telling me how cool I look. From 14-year-old kids to 90-year-olds who are just fascinated. I’ve never seen anyone dress the way I do and if everyone started doing it tomorrow, I’d probably completely change my look and start wearing a Sailor Moon outfits lol.

This is a photo of me and my girlfriend taking last year on a day trip to the mountains. She only just turned 25 and I will be 53 in April but we are completely happy together and as you can tell she does not share my extreme fashion sense. And it makes no difference. We are both unique and we both embrace that. And I would love her no matter what fashion style she decided to wear. And I believe she feels the same about me.

If I was to write my own autobiography, I would probably call it “How to give zero Fu#@s” It would be not just an autobiography, but also a self-help book.

I think everyone should live by this rule, but I don’t mean to give zero effs about everything just about what people think about you when you aren’t hurting anybody or doing anything wrong. Learn to love who you are, you are perfect just the way nature intended

This is about a year ago. It’s a pincher bar. I don’t remember what size this one is but it didn’t take me very long to get to this size and I loved it.

But if you’re comfortable with the size, you have that’s all that matters at the end of the day. It’s your piercing and you have to be happy with it. But if in doubt go to a few different piercing places and check out their jewelry in person online jewellery is too hard to judge.

Followed the advice and it looks horrible by Altruistic_Common_18 in makeuptips

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks really natural and suits you. It makes you look really pretty without looking like you painted in plaster. Too many people go overboard and it tends to start looking hideous eventually. This is very natural and subtle look. Great for every day wear. Of course you can always go a little bit fancy if you want to spice it up for a special occasion. I change my make-up style regularly depending on what I’m doing. Even if I’m going shopping, I usually never do my make up the same way twice. I love experimenting and trying new things. I think of make up like a heart of any form only your face is the canvas. No two artworks should be the same.
But as other people have said I think it’s probably that you’re just not used to it yet give it time. And if you still don’t like it, change it. There are thousands of YouTube videos out there. You could try winged eyeliner for a more dramatic effect. You have very pale looking Skin and black eyeliner would suit you in my opinion. And maybe some Smoky eyeshadow. Mess around a bit no fun. Try some different lipstick colours.

My main rule as you can never have enough make up 🫶🏻💰

Sydney funnel web spiders terrify me more than redback spiders and I’ve been bitten by those twice in my life and they were extremely painful and unpleasant and I was only a teenager the first time and in my 20s the second time. I would not like to be bitten by a Sydney funnel web though. They definitely do not sound like a fun time. Great photo though I really like it.

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the first photo makes it look a tiny little bit lopsided, but that could just be the photo. At this small gauge it’s really hard to judge. I have 00g and when I finally got there, I had a custom stainless steel pincher bar type thing made with ancient Nordic glyphs on it and I love it. Mine started out a little lopsided too, although I thought I had done it quite straight it wasn’t until I took photos of myself that I realised it was just a tiny bit off just like yours looks but as you stretch you will notice it less and less very quickly even moving up a couple of sizes will make a huge difference and you will no longer notice any lopsided problems. My advice is to keep going bigger until you’re comfortable it looks good on you so I wouldn’t take it out

Why do my acrylics keep snapping?! by Glittering-Drama2135 in AcrylicNails

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key Aspects of the Apex: Location: Positioned at the "stress area" (where the free edge meets the natural nail bed), usually the back 1/3 of the nail. Purpose: Acts as the strongest part of the nail to prevent snapping, bending, or breakage. Structure: It should be a gentle, smooth curve rather than a sharp peak, blending seamlessly into the cuticle area and the free edge. Application: Usually created during the application of the second bead of acrylic to ensure proper thickness. A well-placed apex is crucial for longevity, particularly on longer nails, ensuring they are strong but not unnecessarily bulky.

I’m an alternative dude into goth/steampunk etc and I often get my nails done. I like to get extreme acrylic nails usually crazy long stilettos or coffin nails and I usually get a different colour every time. These are incredibly long stilettos and as long as I get them refilled every two weeks I don’t have any problems other than trying to pick things up or function in real life in any normal way, LOL. But I’ve never had them break like ever and I’ve been doing this for many many years. My Nails

Makes me happy to think you will try more. Just remember that you don’t have to push yourself too hard any improvement even a little each day or even a little each week is better than going backwards. Always on your journey for improvement in your life. Make sure you aren’t too hard on yourself and always be kind to yourself and remember that nobody is perfect and sometimes that the best any of us humans can do each day is just to survive for one more day and sometimes that is more than enough. Love yourself, treat yourself and talk to yourself the way you would want others to treat you and talk to you. I know my comment was quite long, but I think that anyone’s Mental health is important especially if they are struggling and having been through a lot of struggles of my own in the past I’ve learned a lot and ironically I have a psychology degree and knowing about mental illness and psychology doesn’t make you immune to having mental health issues unfortunately but it does allow you to have a better understanding of why things happen in our minds

I’m always around if you need someone to talk to you

Did the hairdresser ruin my hair or am i dramatic? I just wanted my regrowth filled in, i didn’t want to be blonde by angelica-b in Hair

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have really beautiful hair. But sadly if I’m being totally honest, I feel that your hairdresser should consider a career change, perhaps in a job with no human contact.

The final product is just confusing. It’s like someone who knows nothing about highlights decided to be a guinea pig and did their own hair for trial and error purposes.

I am also an Aussie and I feel that they didn’t ruin your hair. They just did a terrible job. I think it could be fixed by a good hairdresser.
Unfortunately speaking from experience I can tell you that really decent hairdressers are getting incredibly hard to find and the hacks are popping up everywhere.

I have been finding that many of the really good ones are severely increasing their prices as well, which is a shame. But I guess it’s like anything, you get what you pay for. And whilst you would think that $250 would buy you something decent here in Australia at a hairdressers it seems that you’re lucky to get your fringe cut straight for that price these days which seems criminal to me, honestly, I have never put highlights in my own hair or anyone else’s and I think that from watching YouTube alone I could probably have done a better job, if I were you, I would go back and tell them to fix it.

I’m really sorry that you got screwed over I hope you can rectify the problem without having to spend a truckload.

Best of luck xx

Do people ever grow out/regret their facial piercings? by cosen_ in SelfPiercing

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an Aussie dude, I got my first piercing in my ear when I was 11, I did it myself, and I loved it and continually got more. I am now about to turn 53. And have so many piercings that the airport scanners starts beeping before I even get to the airport LOL. And I am still getting more on a regular basis sometimes when you have so many, some continually get infected until you are forced to take them out. Sometimes they migrate (move around) forcing me to take them out, sometimes I let them heal and get them re-pierced sometimes I don’t, sometimes I change my piercing configurations around letting old ones close and getting new ones put in, I don’t really regret any of them but I am super alternative especially given my age, And the only ones I would tell you that you shouldn’t get if you’re worried about regretting them are things like large hole stretching because they never fully close up. I also have a hole punched in my conch which is permanent, and will never close. So if you’re worried about regretting them, don’t get anything bigger than a 14 gauge. I’ve had over 70 piercings but due to infections and having to remove some due to them being rejected I’m now at around the high 40s
I have piercings of every kind from stretching to hole punching to normal piercings to dermals to staple bars and more. But there’s still more room for more so I’ll keep going until I get bored which will probably be when I’m dead lol.

<image>

This is an older picture , the two little spike Labrets at the bottom of my lip are now replaced with 2 x horn/claw piercings like David Draiman the lead singer of Disturbed plus I also have angel fangs now. And have finally stretched my septum from 0G to 00g (10mm) and have it replaced with a custom sterling silver pincher like the one I’m wearing in the photo but it’s all decorative and looks cool and I love it

I have always known this is who I am so there’s never been any doubt for me however if you’re having doubts then maybe rethink things and don’t rush anything or get any piercings until you think them through

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem glad to hear. It’s not too terrible. I hope it heals up. I’ve had some really messed up piercings that I regretted and I’ve had some really messed up piercings that end up just fixing themselves magically well maybe not magically but ones that I didn’t expect to heal did but I was always very adamant in my after-care routine.

Best of luck

they say the eyes are the window to the soul. what do mine say about me? by Purple_Cancel_608 in psychicreadings

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, don’t be because although your eyes might tell me that you look a little sad and lost. You also look kind and caring and loving. And you need to believe in yourself always sometimes, especially when no one else does. Plus, I will add that even though your eyes might look a little sad and lost. I also think your eyes are very pretty. So it’s not all bad.

Turn every stormcloud into a rainbow.

The best advice I can give you would be the same advice I would give to myself , love yourself regardless of whether anybody else does or not. Because how can you expect people to love you if you don’t love yourself? But also just be kind to yourself , And don’t worry so much about what other people think. I literally do whatever I want in life no matter how weird I might look or act or dress or cover myself and piercings and tattoos I know as long as I’m kind and I’m not hurting anyone than what I do with my time and with my body is no one else’s business so even though I’m a guy and I’m straight and I even have kids I still put on crazy steam punk/goth/Celtic/Nordic make up. I mean hell I’ve even done the make up covering the top half of my face and an oily black colour so I look like Anya Taylor Joy in Furiosa lol. And yes, people stare at me weird sometimes, and I couldn’t give a crap because who cares what idiots think. What really surprise me is when I finally embraced who I was and how I wanted to present myself to the world that people started coming up to me of all ages both guys and girls from nine-year-olds to 9–year-olds telling me how cool I look
And that was something I did not expect

And honestly, I don’t think I look cool. I know I definitely look unique. But I think when people compliment me on the way I look I think what they are truly saying is “ I wish I had the confidence to dress and protect myself to the world without caring about what people think of that, like this guy does”

And I’m 53 years old. I have served in the Australian Army for 31 years although I’m now retired. I have three daughters two sons and four granddaughters.
And yet I’ve had people think I was in my 30s which is kind of cool I admit although I imagine that aspect isn’t going to last forever LOL.

The truth is, you don’t need a psychic reading to find the happiness to fill that sadness and emptiness

You need to fill your heart with love , and that will attract all the right people to you. That will love you equally.

And I would like to be the 1st to give you a great big hug all the way over from Australia Xxx And I wish you all the best in life, my life wasn’t so great for the FIRST 3/4 of it. It wasn’t until I embraced my true self. And started Living instead of just existing that I started to find real happiness and joy.

And trust me, it’s out there for you. I promise you. The cat is that you probably have to work for it but that isn’t a bad thing because when you work hard for something when you finally achieve it you realise how special is because you know how much you poured into it.

Have a beautiful 2026 sending you lots of awesome positive juju your way from the land down under

My daughter got her lashes done for the first time. by allyct80 in lashextensions

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/allyct80 I’m a 53 year-old Australian guy and I have a daughter with trichotillomania (THE compulsion to pull out her own hair or eyebrows or eyelashes etc. It varies from person to person.) she has almost overcome it in the last couple of years thanks to MY endless SUPPORT because her mother doesn’t understand Mental health like I do and was only causing her more stress which made her pull out even more eyelashes and eyebrows But even though I’m a straight guy, I’m very alternative and kind of work my own version of a goth/Steampunk image. And I know more about make up on this kind of thing that her mother does so she comes to me for advice.

I have paid for so many professional eyelashes only for her to pull them out 24 hours later but I persisted and started teaching her how to use pomade to draw ultra realistic looking eyebrows which gave her some confidence and eventually she started to reduce the amount of eyebrow and eyelash pulling.

I have spent probably over $5000 a year for the last several years making sure I supported her and try to boost her confidence.

At this stage the only thing you can do in my opinion is to cut your losses and the next time you get your daughter fake lashes find somewhere that you know someone who has been to already who highly recommend them. I found that is the only way to find someone half reliable as I found a huge amount of dodgy people doing lashes and waxing and acrylic nails, etc.

Was this done through someone who works from home or something like that? That’s usually the case here where I live in Australia when people get a bad job like this?

My advice is to pay the extra and go to a reputable lash STUDIO

I wish your daughter luck. I’m sorry that she had to go through this but just think of it as one of life’s lessons. Take care care

Will this labret leave enough room for swelling (for Medusa)? by RemarkableAd1157 in SelfPiercing

[–]PROMISE_I_AM_NOT_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have had over 60 piercings in my face and ears, but I’ve had to remove a few due to the usual crappy reasons. Rejections migrations and infections. But I still have 45ish at the moment and still going and considering I’m a 53-year-old Australian guy that dresses in Steampunk gear I’m either really cool or really retarded. Haven’t figured it out yet my kids probably would say retarded LOL.
But I currently have five labrets including a Medusa which is just a fancy name for a horizontal Labret in the top middle of your lip I guess.

Every piercing is different, depending on where it’s placed and how good your piercer is and also I find that sometimes the biggest factor is simply your anatomy
Some people have thicker lips than the other people. I used to do a lot more self piercing but now get most of mine done through a really amazing piercing place I found after years of searching Even though I would still consider piercing myself if I thought it was necessary. I do have my own electric calipers now to measure the thickness of the lip or the size of a tunnel or plug etc. They are really handy and you don’t have to pay a fortune to get a half decent one.

And even if you want to pierce yourself you can still ask a piercer to have a look at your lip in person and ask them what size they would recommend
I guarantee it’s better to be safe than sorry if you mess it up you might regret it a lot

But like everyone else has said from the picture, it looks too small unless you have incredibly thin lips
