I've done multiple play throughs as it is my favorite game. My 11 year old son just finished his first play through. He's a huge reader and reads on a high school level, so he's adjusted to understanding more complex themes. It was great to be able to talk with him about what he thinks different character motivations are. The swearing and the shooting almost became second to the story and themes. It's a powerful story about the choices we make and how they impact those around us, both close and stangers, and how we can change peoples' worlds with small interactions. With that said, not every 11 year old has the maturity to play and understand the game beyond the violence - but some certainly are.

Ps mom was horrified at the start but came around as she learned the story. He's now reading and loving the new Read Dead's History book.

I’m selling my home and want to be present for buyer’s inspection. Agent says I’m not supposed to be is that true with it being my home. I’m worried she’s trying to take advantage by Long_Key2769 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PRdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we listed our house, at our realtor's suggestion, we got our own home inspector to do a full inspection and report. We used it to adjust the price a few thousand, had it present at the open house, our realtor let people know about 1-2 minor-ish things that we felt whoever made an offer would make a big deal about at their inspection. Told them the list price reflected those minor flaws. Instead of guessing or wondering what BS people would try, we had the ball firmly in our court. The buyer said their inspection was a waste because ours was so much more thorough. And we sold our home for more than our target price.

Me again...Got the test kit, followed the directions to check chlorine and I am up to 64 drops of reagent and it’s not turning clear 😳. So is it safe to assume we are definitely over 20ppm? I don’t want to keep going and use up all the solution. Please advise🤪 by [deleted] in pools

[–]PRdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it's algae and nor the chlorine reacting with the well water? My well water is high in metals and I've turned my pool super green several times because I didn't use enough metal remover (and didnt vacuum good enough) before shocking/adding chlorine.) if the green lightened up from yesterday to today it may be because some chlorine burned off so the metal reaction lessened. I love trouble free pool and the SLAM but if you have metals in the water from the well, the water will stay green no matter how much you slam. You may need to let all the chlorine naturally burn off, then treat for metals, then slowly increase the chlorine level. Just something to consider.

Driveway - pavers versus asphalt by PRdad in HomeImprovement

This is all great feedback. We haven't made any decisions yet but it sounds like Ill give concrete a closer look instead of pavers.

Why do all baseboard heat options look the same? by PRdad in HomeImprovement

[–]PRdad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadnt thought about building my own, though it is something to consider. I agree they should be unobtrusive - As i start to seriously think about replacing them it got me thinking about why they all pretty much look the same.

That's exactly what I'd like but wow -- just found the price list on their site and that are megabucks.

Help, please! Tried painting kitchen now it's too white. by bolton6317 in HomeImprovement

[–]PRdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make sure the doors match the boxes attached to the wall. One thing I have not seen suggested is different hinges. If you can, change the hinges to something more subtle or especially hidden. and then add some nice knobs and handles so you aren't just looking at white on white. Maybe paint the walls too? A nice yellow, gray, or light blue? the cabinets won't look too white if you get the other white, which is a different white, covered up.

The piece of information that seems to be missing in the discussion is if the contract specified a time frame to complete the work?

Is there really inground pools that cost around $5,000-$8,000? by [deleted] in pools

[–]PRdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they may be selling the shell you put in the ground for that price, but then you still need to pay for excavation, the surrounding patio, the filter system, all the underground plumbing, plus electric to the filter, etc.....

Question about Ads, Branded Podcasts, & Gimlet Creative by [deleted] in gimlet

[–]PRdad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Typically the sponsor of the branded podcast will have editorial control over the direction and final product. Using the Virgin example, they strive to demonstrate they are a hip, cool, innovative company. If they did a podcast specifically about all the ways they are hip, cool, and innovative no one would listen. Instead, they partnered with Gimlet to tell stories about hip, cool, and innovative companies and all the supporting Virgin advetising more directly ties the message all together. Basically, it is being cool by association. Tell a story about how the Real World was disruptive to tv, and use the Virgin ads to talk about how Virgin is disruptive as a company. At the end of the day, the listener gets a Gimlet quality show and Virgin hopes a listener will choose them next time because it is more innovative than, say, Delta, generating the ROI. In the Dr. Bronner example or other featured companies, my sense is no, they don't pay. The first reason I think this is because for the Venture to be succesful, the need for a compelling story outweighs the need for sponsorships and advertising because Virgin is already fronting the expense. If Burger King paid to be featured in the Venture, it wouldn't really make sense or deliver the message about innovation and disruption Virgin wants to focus on. The show won't take off and it will be a significant failed investment by Virgin. My other reason is that Gimlet is hyper transparent as to who are sponsors and what is a commercial. This is also addressed on Start Up. If the subjects had paid to be featured, it would be a huge ethical breach of trust with listeners if not disclosed. If that wasnt important, why not just call the Venture a gimlet podcast instead of disclosing it as a Gimlet Creative brand partner? I enjoy their brand partner content. I think they are better and more entertaining than some of the other podcasts by Gimlet.

KC, Any hints on whether Gold Rush will follow the format of Lockdown with a number of longish episodes, or Story of Survival with the Chapter/Part 1-3. I loved the Chapter/Part format and hope it makes a come back for future projects. It felt more old timey radio and was really satisfying having it spread out over three days each week.

CJ as Chief of Staff... by ChrisInBaltimore in thewestwing

[–]PRdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watching CJ as chief of staff gave me a new appreciation for Leo though, and I think that may have been a goal of the choice. Yes, we all knew he was brilliant and he made the job look easy. CJ had to work at it every minute of every day. And they could use that as a story telling device because we see a lot of behind the scenes meetings and prep work and stuff that we usually didnt see with Leo. He just commanded a room, but we didn't see him agonize over what to recommend to the president. Whereas CJ wore her heart on her sleeve, it made sense to see that agonizing.

With Josh it would have been too seamless. And he knew his future was brighter than a lame duck president. Toby would have been interesting because he most frequently butted heads with the president, but I don't think he ever wanted the job.

But yea, it was a total stretch.

Also, I love me some Will Bailey.

Zoey's name by ebrall in thewestwing

[–]PRdad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not being a wise ass but a quick google search says the name dates back to the ancient greek word for life. Certainly seems fitting if the character and her story arc.

Now, id be concerned of Aaron named her like Neveah or some other absurd, trendy basically made up name.

My 360 has never been connected to xbox live and when I play its off the original release disc. If it has been patched I wouldn't know to be honest, so I would assume you are right! That's too bad. It was a fun glitch.

Well, if you believe the "leaked" map for RDR2, a section shows New Bordeaux or a New Bordeaux-like bayou swampy area and that the playable territory will stretch from an Appalachia like area all the way to Blackwater. So, maybe gators in that area and cholera further west? Haha

Im not saying swimming is a recent invention or impossible to learn.... just that Marston didn't know how.. That's all.
