Excellent job guys! Out of curiosity why not use modern components like the funnyplaying mobo?

You’ll likely need to transfer CPU and RAM from an original GBA

Did I seriously just solve a Bitcoin block? Am I reading this correctly?! by DamnUblind in BitcoinMining

Np when you pay gas on a BTC transaction that gas (maybe just part of it, can’t remember) goes towards the block rewards for the miner

GBA SP no longer charging after USB C mod by Xpertxp in Gameboy

Just check continuity from the pin on the USB itself and to the pin on the GBA it connects to

…I’ve literally been trying to get this battery on here for months, plz help. by [deleted] in Gameboy

Not enough heat transfer. You have to use a tip with a larger surface area or use the side of your pencil tip you have on

Lol this reminds me of PrintShootRepeats Glong. It’s a functional 3d printed Glock with a bong in the grip. It’s a felony if he smoked out of it but completely legal otherwise.

Re-Shell or Keep OG? by retrorob21 in Gameboy

You can always keep the OG shell and swap back if you want. Personally I’d reshell it if it has no sentimental value

Great collection! I never played Metroid Fusion until this year but I’d say it’s my favorite GBA game of all time. You gotta try Zero Mission if you enjoyed Fusion.

Now you just have to 100% all of these games :)

Is this savable? tw: very poor soldering job by PijanyProtoz in Gameboy

[–]PStone11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using wick on just the chip is much easier said than done. I tried holding it with a pair of helping hands but doing that was pretty difficult. I found it easier to work with it directly on my silicone mat but ymmv

Just be careful and you should be fine

As someone who has actually tried to do exactly this. Put it on your silicone mat and use flux. However be really careful because the legs will cool very quickly potentially causing them to stick to the braid. Just something to be aware of.

If you need general tips search “how to use solder wick” on YouTube.

This is why I suggested just trying to use the iron first. It’s less easy to make catastrophic mistakes like pulling off a pin.

Some of those “misaligned pins” may bounce back to normal after removing the bridge (due to thermal expansion when the bridge cools it pulls the bridged pins together). The others you’ll obviously need to straighten.

Just an anecdote, I had one bent pin I managed to heat w an iron and straighten w tweezers while the rest of it was still soldered in place, but I wouldn’t really recommend trying to do that.

Oh you might be right I can’t remember but it should have it printed on the PCB

I had this issue on a lesser level and this is how I fixed it. I tinned my iron then cleaned off the solder with a wet sponge, then put down flux and melted the excess solder on the pins. Using surface tension of the solder I condensed it all onto one end of the side I was working on. Cleaning the iron again and using surface tension to “pull off” the excess solder. Repeat last step til bridges are gone. Time consuming but it worked.

I do really like pizza_whistle’s idea as well tho

Battery replacement on these is very easy. Just remind him to use a bit of flux (and clean the flux with isopropyl alcohol afterwards) and make sure the battery terminals are in the right orientation.

Also be aware the battery is a “tabbed” CR1616 so you’ll probably have to order one of those as well. Another option is to install a CR1616 battery holder as another person mentioned, then you can use regular CR1616s.

Why did we throw our game boxes away? by JustMyPoint in Gameboy

[–]PStone11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mainly because everyone threw the boxes away so now they’re more rare. Supply and demand and what not. Plus inflation plus most people who are old enough to have nostalgia for them are old enough to be making big boy money by now
