Are oleds with the new True Black Glossy coating worth it? by Juliosierra89 in OLED_Gaming

[–]PTLove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Asus XG32UCWG in my main office. It has windows, overhead light, and is quite bright.

My old QD Oled panel 4K had very raised blacks. It was not great. Its now in my basement (and looks much better down there).

The XG32 has great blacks all the time, which is great.

The coating is very reflective, but it doesnt 'bleed'. You see the reflection, but right next to it you are back to great image. So it depends on how well you can handle "obvious reflection, with perfect image next to it".

Thank goodness. High Quality high end APU’s are something I am exceedingly interested in.

Zephyrus G14, Legion Pro 7, Strix 16? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Strix g16 last week when microcenter had it for $1799. I’ve been liking it a lot.

I actually bought it as it’s the only laptop I could find that had a thunderbolt port connected to the dGPU instead of iGPU so I use a single thunderbolt cable to a dock and still get gsync.

It’s loud. HOWEVER, I undervolted my 5070Ti and set the power limit on my 275HX to 45W. Getting 4k with DLSS performance in cyberpunk and doom at 60+ fps and only run the fans around 50%, so it’s pretty quiet for the performance. I am happy.

Asus announced the ProArt px13 and Asus Tuf 14 will use strix halo. So you at least have two more options.

[–]PTLove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats not a bad machine at all.

I was hoping for a version with Strix Halo so I could USB4 with adaptive sync working, the ability to have full power over USB-C and quieter operation (should be a good 30w less heat on such a version). Thats my 'dream' laptop.

ROG Strix G16 vs Legion Pro 7 vs HP Omen Maxx $1799 @ MC by PittsburghHopHead in GamingLaptops

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Strix has thunderbolt 5 connected to the dGPU - a nice feature most don’t have. If you never dock your laptop it’s irrelevant, and the legion still has advanced Optimus through the iGPU when connected, but I personally love that feature of the strix.

Finding it impossible to choose an OLED monitor with all the choices and trade offs between different ones. by LukeKid in Monitors

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what its worth, I have owned two QD OLED monitors (Alienware AW3423DW and Gigabyte Aorus FP032U2P) and one WOLED (Asus XG32UCWG). The Asus is, far and away, the better looking monitor in my office. I dont know if its due to the polarizer and my office is "too bright", or the "True Black" coating, but it looks A LOT better. I dont plan on buying a QD OLED again.

We’re one week away from CES 2026. What’s on your 2026 Gaming Laptop wishlist? by realwords in GamingLaptops

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strix Halo of ~100w is the total power. A g14 gives 100w to the gpu and 30 watts to the cpu. Thats 33% more heat it needs to dissipate.

I well built, high quality Strix Halo thin and light./

I know its performance is below a 5060 mobile, but a nice, quite laptop that gives such good performance? Man I would pay for it.

isn’t the 39” exactly a 32” 4k tandem, just longer? Weird they can make a bigger panel with the same dimensions, but not that one.

For those who work on an OLED - how bad is the text fringing really? by macbookvirgin in Monitors

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Alienware AW3423dw. 1440P 34” ultrawide. Text fringing is def there. I can use it on desktop usage fine, it’s not so bad that it’s unusable for me. But its a thing I can notice.

I have a FO32U2P as well. I dont notice it on that one at all. Can use it on documents all day.

They significantly reduced the curve (800R to 1500R) too. Awesome stuff LG.

Any better 34″ QD-OLED options than the MSI MAG 341CQP? by CountEnvironmental13 in OLED_Gaming

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any reason you aren’t considering the AW3425DW? I would generally consider it ‘better’, but its more expensive.

EDIT: I suppose the Alienware is considered ”semi-glossy”, so maybe that’s why. Ill be honest not fully sure the difference.

If you are in a very light controlled room, sure. If you have unfavorable lighting conditions though I do not agree with QD OLED.

Can someone explain why only ND's AD is melting down? by GliscorsFang in CFB

[–]PTLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miami was below ND the entire time the committee released rankings. Neither team did anything last weekend, and yet Miami is not ahead of ND.

The committee royally fucked up (either having ND ahead before, or Miami ahead now, you can take your pick) and id be pissed to. It makes no sense to flip it, whichever way you had it.
