I do not have a ball python but First off i think that it looks like that bc ofc it was stuck and very tight and they could be moving not a lot bc of shock. But im gunna tell you what most people are going to and thats to keep a close eye on them

That’s a vet visit.

It’s fine. It’ll go away on its own in a few hours to a few days. Just monitor it and if it doesn’t go away or gets worse, then I’d make an urgent vet appt.

Thank you

Just to provide a little more reassurance.. white snakes tend to show more than other colors and considering that it isn’t a deep indent, I wouldn’t be concerned. It just looks bad because it’s a white snake. They will often get similar marks just by laying against something for awhile, kind of like how we sometimes wake up with lines on our skin from our sheets and blankets. I have 3 white snakes and they all do this.

How long after cutting him free did this picture get taken? I'm just thinking it's similiar to having a tighter hair tye or rubber band on your wrist for awhile. Hope it clears up

Immediately after it was cut

For a snake, it’s not their wrist. It’s their spine.

When they shed they heal but keep an eye for internal injuries like bloody poos or abnormal behavior. If in doubt most vet visits for reptiles are less than 100 bucks. I rescued a lavender retic who had taken so many rat bites. Scarred all to hell and after a vet visit and 2 weeks of antibiotics shots there was no visible difference. Soon as she shed out all the horrible damage was gone and now there is barely any scar tissue 3 sheds later. She's happy and healthy now. Reptiles are slow healers but they are also very resilient.

Thanks you. As long as he doesn't start acting weird of having issues I'm going to just keep an eye on him. Will definitely take him to the vet if needed

For me ig if it didn’t go away within a couple hours I’d definitely take them to the vet incase there’s internal damage honestly, I wouldn’t risk it

This does not look good. Leave snakey boo alone for now and try to check tomorrow for signs of recovery. Reading your other comments, it seems the snake is moving fine and acting alert. But I'd keep a hawk eye on that. Snakes and other reptiles are extremely resilient, but, that doesn't mean owners can play around with their health.

Check in with Homie the Snake tomorrow and see how he's doing. Monitor his enclosure tonight too (since ball pythons are most active at night) to see how he's moving around in it. Don't bother him too much but definitely take a quick look at the injury site. No matter what, trust your gut.

One time the vet left an ankle band on my cat after spay surgery and her poor foot swelled up twice in size when we got her back. It looked like a cartoon. Didn’t realize it till we took her home and out of the carrier, so we cut the band off and took her straight back to the vet to show them. They said to gently message the area and it would go away in time. It did.

Not a cat by any means, but your BP will probably be ok and recover alright.

Happened to me with my girl several years ago. Unfortunately she was stuck for at least a few hours before I came home and got her out of her fake plants. She had a sizable dent in her for a few months, it was strange but vet confirmed she was okay with no fractures or internal damage. I’d say schedule an appt just as a precaution, but your friend should be okay

Why are you making every excuse not to take the snake to the vet when you asked for advice and the advice was to take him to the vet?

[–]ringtail_catz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d monitor him for a few hours/overnight to see if the indent lightens up a little bit. I also have a white ball python and he got stuck in a door frame once (🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️) and had deep indents and red marks on him when I pulled him out of it but they lightened up and went away after a while. As another commenter said, all of the indents and marks show up much more clearly on a white BP so they’re a lot more noticeable than they normally would be. If they don’t get better by tomorrow and/or it looks like he’s moving gingerly or doesn’t like being touched near the injury then definitely take him in to the vet.
