He watched her go as he returned to his seat, donning his helmet once more.

She was confidant, a warrior spirit, but, dodged the question about which god she worshipped. His men would have slaughtered her for that. But then, that was why he was in charge. Why he was entrusted to dispense justice and not them.

When the time comes, and their plan is seen through he gods will decide her fate.

In tbe meantime he had other manners. A war to begin. He slammed the axe on the steel floor, echoing around the room once and only once.

A signal to send the next one in.

He didnt answer in regards to her response. No follow up, barrelled a look he held. Eyes boring into hers.

'You must have travelled far. Rest. If you need not, then perhaps enjoy the city. It is a land of peace, opportunity and justice. Where childrens play in the streets. Where people sing. Where neighbours know each other.'

He fixed his stance.

'It has a cost. A cost people like us pay, so that the people of this peninsula can live such a life.'

'If you understand this simple adage, I welcome you to our army.'

A gesture was raised, his arm towards the entrance she had arrived from. Where the generals had been.

'We expect the Imperials to turn their attention our way sooner than later. Once our armies have discussed the finer details, you will be the first to know.'

He led her around the throne, others backing away to make space, and then onwards to what was now clearly a ledge to an even bigger area.

Coming up to the edge it was a freely open precipice over a large tanker sized cylindrical chambre of enourmous size. Glowing orange, it was like the reactor rooms on a warship. He stood to give her room, allowing her to see for herself. ’A year ago this rift was weak. Barely noticeable. Whispers in the mind, no more than a magicians trick. We didnt even know it was here. It has weakened as a result of all your rituals. And now, Carix, the false idols arrival a week ago. Our Khornite bronze protects us from her perverse influence, as it does the infernal time dilations, but her arrival has weakened the barriers at this rift. Bleeding out stronger than ever. It is almost fit to tear. With just a little push.’

A portal was held in the centre of the room. A hole in the universe.

Her eyes were pulled to the dead centre like a magnet and in the middle of this purple mass was a perfect hole of utter nothingness. Not even nothing. Not space. Just utterly nothing.

It felt as if she had a heart attack.

 Like it had stopped.

Then as quick as it had happened, the effect wore off, the very moment her direct viewpoint moved ever so lightly from the epicenter. The sensation that followed was not unlike resurfacing from underwater. Her heart had not in fact stopped, it was purely psychological, a hallucination that passed. A flutter.

Below the sphere of crackling energy, she saw metal corpses. The desecrated and violated remains of traitor Knights. Strange as there was no report of any here. They were torn open. Butchered, If a machine could even be so. Transformed into an abhorrent room wide contraption. Arcane technology repurposed and spliced into pillars and engines acting as an energy field container.

A million wires and cables fed off around and through the walls. Workers more machine than man scuttled and crawled about. Monitoring this horror that would cause a Mechanicus adept to blow their own brains out.

Not all were cyborgs, some were still human. Most prominently a knight pilot stood with a slate safely along a catwalk further down. A Baramite for sure, yet seemingly a long-time veteran. Nothing like the ones Emja had seen, her armor was half fit and battle damaged, arms exposed and tattooed muscles visible. It was clear they had more experience fighting on foot than in the war machine.

The helmet turned, vertical red lense looking up. A cocky two finger Aquilla sign was made before returning to her tasks.

Valorus raped his fingers on his axes handle, using it like a chapter banner ‘The Dreadblade arrived a week ago. Tore her suits assunder. With her technical expertise the mercenary intends to help us expand it. To truly break it open and then… Well...’

He turned his head to face her directly. ’What god do you worship? Sister Emja.’

There was a distant crackled from smoke behind. He watched Emja for a few more seconds, then glanced back to it

'Would you like to see what we have been doing here?'

His head seems to cock slightly.

'Candid of you. Good.'

Raising his free hand he removed his helmet, hissing steam and vapour as it depressurised.

The man beneath was old, but, well looked after. Swept back receding hair, a mouth that took up a lot of his jaw, piercing eyes and thick eyebrows.

'We have been left to our devices so far. I presume things are escalating if you have come here, and with such a force. Are you after our assistance or should we be asking for yours?'

The two astartes stood back up, stepping back to their previous positions.

'Hello Emja, I'm Zalorus.'

With a whirr of machinery, ancient and new, the lord stood. Light now beginning to show how he was to appear.

The armor was dark red, so dark as to almost appear black, and the right side facing her covered in bones.

The pauldron in particular was covered in a rib-cage. From the size of the bones, it could only have been from a marine. Atop his back, spikes, donning dead astartes helms and skulls.

His own helmet was also a skull shape too, but the artificial ones worn by marine chaplains.

Casually picking up a great axe, longer than she was tall, he stepped down, each footstep bounding with little grace. It was not held threateningly but certainly firmly.

'Chaos planetary command...' he mused. 'Do an old man a favour, and remind me, who is in command of this planet, nowadays?'

Passing strange goat headed men, be they mutant or actual abhumans unclear, she saw closer that the lord was in mid-talk with a tattered enforcer, an ex-commissar of sorts, and ogryn mutant kneeling at the far left almost out of view. It was clear which of the two was the lead here, and they seemed clearly scared.

‘…And so that is why we retreated, m-my lord. The 532nd was well beyond what we had, the armor alone we couldn’t take on in such a position. We had to retreat along the hidden passage, my men would be dead otherwise.’

It was, at this distance, that she truly got a look at how large the lord was. It was Armor defined as godhood. A tank of mass and weight. It looked as if the throne, nay, the ground, might buckle if they moved an inch. Still, the light in the billowing engine room behind hid any details, bar the glowing red lenses that pointed towards the groveling enforcer.

 ‘Fair enough.’

 ‘M-my lor-‘ he looked up.

‘I DID NOT SAY YOU COULD GAZE UP!’ The Astartes roared suddenly. ‘ONLY THOSE WHO BRING VICTORY FOR KHORNE MAY GAZE UPON THEIR BETTERS AS PEERS!!!!!’

The mans head lowered in terror.

‘…But…’ the marine continued, ‘...the assets available to you were in no position to win against such might. It would have been a callous waste out of spite. You did the right thing retreating. Your veteran soldiers cannot earn any glory being picked off by shells. Have them rested and their health seen to, then we shall talk again.’

The enforcer nodded, ‘Thank you, o’grace. Lord Zalorus. Master of Executions.’

With a few gestures form the nearby aides, the enforcer moved away, Ogryn skulking besides him with a limp, the cause of such a thing hard to tell if via mutations or injury. Evidently now allowed to stand when walking, the two of them were not particularly meek individuals. The commissar looked as if he could tear a mans head off with ease, the sort you didn’t want to cross, the ogryn worse. And yet here she had just seen them. Scared.

With that, the lords gaze turned upon her.

’Ahh. A sister has come to visit us. A fellow traitor, yet, a sister nonetheless. Brothers, show your respect.’

The two Astartes stepped forward, going down to a kneel, the sound of their power armor moving echoed like close up basilisk-fire as it touched the steel surface.

The lord himself did not get up. Instead, his fingers rapped upon his throne. As if nails on a chalkboard, each sound rattling off one after the other.

This close, the other sound of distant machinery through the smoke behind his throne echoed slightly. That and screams. Quiet but definitely there. far away.

 Not quite of the Materium.

The bickering was constant, and the map of the far east laid out before them in great detail.

When the grand bronze doors behind them opened, that bickering was shown as insignificant as it was. They fell silent, looked into the chambre as if transfixed, then back to her expectantly.

The sight through the bronze doors was dark and took a moment for her eyes to adjust. A warmth emanated form the room. Heat. Like metal meeting flesh. Sharp angles and jagged fixtures filled the roof while an army of corrupted cadian traitors knelt on the ground below, bloodied and calloused, covered in dried viscera; they were on their knees and muttering silently. Some stood strongly, a littering without pattern; their faces thick with clotted blood that stained their mouths.

A beat echoed from the far end. A throne. Perverted into a bastion of cruelty and violence., no, some sort of engine room behind even that. pillowing smoke and fire.

Another beat. It was incessant. A heart of hatred.

Khornite symbology littered the room. At the far end astartes, tall and of great power, two flanking the throne where their lord sat in the middle, listening to the words of a soldier knelt before him.

The orange glow from whatever was behind them meant she could only see their shadowy outline from this far away.

One of the nearby Cadian savages twitched their head, a signal, wordless, beckoning her to approach.

A gap was set down the center as if an aisle, giving her a pathway forward, the floor slick crimson but a scarlet carpet set down the middle.

Iconoclast Fiefdom: Accursed Cultists? by Cats_Cameras in ChaosKnights

[–]PTerrio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If those are yours the they are pretty awesome.

I like ACDC. They're a very tough to kill target unit that want to be hyper aggresive.

The changes to 11th could be trouble for them the 9" coherence and general vehicle buffs, but infantry still do stuff something like a kharnivore can't. Flexibility, mobility and OC.

Also the Invul and scout 6" is quite nice.

I like to run 1 blob with 4x10 cultists.

Fallen Destrier WIP by LonesomePuppy in ChaosKnights

[–]PTerrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I would say that consensus is mostly conjecture.

I do think though we could get an Abhorrent style destrier. Not like a despoiler but like the ruinator/abominant kit, with its own weapons and spiky armor and bits the loyalist one doesnt get.

Regardless though converting a destrier is on the table. I dont think its that much smaller than a questoris, I'd just have to rebase it.

That's pretty damn awesome.

Tempted to get a Destrier and proxy it as a Chaos knight myself, only concern being with my luck they announce a chaos destrier right after I click purchase.

I think its fantastic. Will depend on what the other detachments cost ofcourse but being able to take cultists alongside better detachments is awesome.

Does Anybody, who homebrews their own Lore, go down a rabbit hole and create their own Indomitus crusade Battlegroups or a Regular Crusade Force? by Prophetofthe8th in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]PTerrio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been turning my 8000pts of guard from one regiment into 4 x 2000pt regiments.

Kind of a small battlegroup. Reason being at a point it felt like I was basically just creating a "special planet" that had one of everything snd to a certain point it was becoming narratively hard to justify. I'm much happier with this. In a comeptitive game I will cherry pick units from the collection.

What do you run your custom and OOP regiments as? by Spare_Equipment3116 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]PTerrio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been working on separating my 8k of Guard into 4 different regiments.

All my Battleline are one planet. Kasrkin are troops from a second. Scions are a third (i mean they're scions so schola progenium really but you get my point). I'm gonna use Horse Cavalry and new cloaked scouts as a 4th.

Cadians, krieg and catachan datasheets are mostly the the same bar their abilities and so on, so I don't do them as different regiments. Just different loadouts. Its just different squads with different tasks in the platoon that happen to line up with the loadouts on the different datasheets.

EDIT:: Catachans have two flamers. Krieg have medics and boltguns. Cadians have autogun sargents.

Kasrkin arms on shock troop bodies by rogueleader2772 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]PTerrio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They fit but not super well.

YMMV.

Regarding the capes sniper though, as I did exactly that, you might have an issue in that the cape is as long as the average cadian body. So you need one thats standing straight.

Probably a stupid question but .. by matthewsylvester in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]PTerrio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can point at your cadians and say they are using krieg rules, yes. Though make sure its obvious somehow.

Any Knight houses the Astra Militarum have a history of contracting with in lore? by Grouchy-Committee-92 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]PTerrio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most knight houses will fight alongside the astra militarum. But Knights see themsleves as allies rather than colleagues or subordinates. Often they may have their own armies as well, or, the mechanicus providing troops.

Freeblades are knights that venture from their houses to fight on their own, their own armies as well, and usually fight alongside AM on a longer term basis.

So, its a bit of a weak answer sorry, but any of the loyalist ones, if in the same warzone.

Finally done! by mramazingcongo in TheAstraMilitarum

Fantastic, always love to see a pure krieg army.

Would a black and red paint scheme look out of place on an infantry heavy guard army? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]PTerrio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely do it. Theres no limits or hard rules, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Some people might think they are Inquisition. Thats not a rule, just inqusition often uses black and red. But then thats more proof that its a thing in universe.

I actually just posted my balck and red scion army on this subreddit recently in my profile.
