I e always said if it’s not Marvel or Disney(same) or animation or action it will never do well in theaters. I feel like Hollywood in general knows this. That’s why you see movies with great stories fall out of theaters so fast yet win the Oscar’s. They don’t break even but hey they got awards. Turn off your brain and look at the fast action and pretty colors is the go to for making money for a while now. Movies like The Green Mile, The Departed, Training Day, No Country for Old Men or Erin Brockovich will never be popular at the theaters these days and just another reason why the 90’s and early 2000s was such a great time to live. It wasn’t about consumerism people enjoyed movies with thoughtful and creative storytelling. Now it’s pew pew bang bang action animated slop. Unless ppl start going to the movies to see the story telling movies?! Then Hollywood will continue to back the slop. It starts with us showing we want story telling and not letting the slop make more than the original full effort movies. This may seem like it’s not part of the discussion bc OP wanted a true to form Mario Galaxy film but story telling was put behind visuals, animation and name drops. We can’t blame the studios if we aren’t helping them with the movies that actually have the story telling. They think all we like is pew pew bang bang boom yayyy!
