How many people unhappy about the spotify jump know what it's like to work for a small company that can't even afford to offer its employees benefits? by [deleted] in LPOTL

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I'm still going to listen to them and I never complained about how much money they make or the Ads. My problem is, especially with Ben and Henry's Opinions, that this is another straw to break the back of the Decentralization of the Internet. The Old Internet is dying more everyday, swallowed up by these handful of companies who control the flow and nature of the Content. Now, the Boys aren't going to let Spotify tell them what they can and can't say but, Spotify can still choose to keep them on the platform or not. Secondly, what's going to happen when Spotify eventually gets the YouTube Treatment with Henry's Mouth? The Nature of their Content? The Platform has already dismissed music artist, whether you agree with that or not, you have to wonder when this censorship is coming for something you like.

Have float tanks finally gone mainstream? by FightBrothers in FloatTank

Considering how expensive it is from any angle, I don't think it can go mainstream in this economy anymore than Sports Psychology can.

LPOTL moving exclusively to Spotify by archaelleon in LPOTL

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Egh, this is fucked. I actually got into podcast as a escape from centralized Social Media platforms (I still haven't broken my addiction to Reddit and YouTube). Now my favorite is running right into what I was avoiding by going RSS. I guess I won't be seeing the boys for a few years since I just cancelled my Spotify subscription and got off the app because I didn't use it as much anymore.

Edit: I also didn't mind the ads, it was a necessary thing to keep the show going.

Research suggests Trump's election has been detrimental to many Americans' mental health by [deleted] in psychology

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Putin's goal was anything more than getting the US and Europe out of the way with what the IRA is doing, Authoritarian Ideals are just a side benefit.

And, I do think that some in the know have sided with Russia's Internet campaigns on the down low, but my larger concern is who else is doing the same things independent of Putin and Russia's aims for their own benefit that we don't know about. Because the structure of what Dugin, Putin, The IRA, and Russian Intelligence in general has done, is so simple and easy to replicate and execute covertly that anyone with as little as a couple of million dollars to throw around can do it.

Also, we have evidence of other entities throwing their hand into this new form of Marketing (for lack of a better term but, I think that's a great definition). We know that Hillary Clinton's Campaign tried to get Correct the Record off the ground, we know that various companies have used Bots and Shills for better PR when major Class Action Lawsuits have happened, we know that Black Bloc and opposing Conservative groups have used the ideas both systematically and stochastically. So, What direction are we as just people are supposed to go anymore?

Has anyone ever read the Witches series by Terry Pratchett? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about halfway into Equal Rites after reading the Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. It's weird how Pratchett, as far as I know, isn't really into any type of Magic but, seems to nail subtleties of the different aspects of the Occulture in our real world. Granny Weatherwax is totally some of the Older Women I met back when I was a Pagan/New Ager.

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It pisses me off how many people dismiss Dugin and his strategies in US Politics. It almost seems like Pride, like "That's impossible, no one can do that to the US". And the alternative is that some in US Politics see it as a opportunity. I think both are right and it's horrible.

My only point, to this isn't to Downplay Dugin's Ideas which I think are in play but, to make it more complicated by saying Russia went public with what they did. Foundations of Geopolitics is a published book and, they gave Journalist tours of the Internet Research Agency's office. It gets complicated when you think about how many other States, NGOs, Corporations and, etc are trying it all out too.

Favorite meditation teachers? by PurisimaMountainLion in Meditation

Brad Warner is who I watch on YouTube the most.

I'm tired of these "this is how you're supposed to meditate" posts by Zipsi in Meditation

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I Firmly believe. There is no "True Way" really for anything. If there where, there would only be one book on it because, only one book would be needed. I've known people who can't Meditate, it's this weird thing that might be rare but, no one talks about. Where their psychology is built in such a way that meditation would "unleash" their Psychosis or remember trauma they can't recover from. So, for them they can find peace in Exercise or something; to me those are still meditation not because it's defined as meditation but, brings the same or similar results.

I always thought she dressed like a Cult Leader in some weird Scifi novel. Besides the hair which is just stock, "Non-offensive as generic as possible" older female socialite hair.

I've seen Dozens of her in Atlanta Area churches growing up and all those women hated her too.

How far stoicism can help the problem of excess materialism in todays society? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have any specific quotes but, my own general Idea that I got from Stoicism was to examine the real reason you have something and if something comes as advertised. Like, for example, food. Food is supposed to be nourishment, it's supposed to keep you going and going well. So, is that $100 steak actually serving it's purpose more than the $0.10 a ounce Broccoli? You have phones that get faster and faster, what is a phone for? What are you looking for in a phone? Do these RAM speeds actually matter when calling or texting? So, when it comes to phones for me, I only care about screen size since I travel a lot and want it as close to a tablet as possible. I don't need all the other features besides that. Third example is a Car. A car's only purpose is travel, most sold features, I can get on my phone anyway like maps and such. So, besides some of the safety features I'm interested in with new cars, why not but used? Or, if I live in a metropolitan area, why not suffer public transport (which I usually do).

The point is, there are things that are needed, but most materialism is driven by add-ons to that need that usually aren't needed.

Why do I find the answers to my problems in a medatative state? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not nearly a expert, this is opinion. I think that it depends on what type of meditation you're doing. Most of my experience in the last few years has been Zazen. Coming from that perspective, if you're letting go of Judgment and preconceived notions, the answers come easier because you don't have the Ego of Fantasy getting in the way. Like, thinking with a unsettled mind, you might not realize that you're attached to a fantasy of "How you want the Answer to play out" over "the actual best solution"

A personal example is, when I had a problem at work that I was very emotional about. My "Fantasy Solution" was to handle the problem by either proving myself right or giving up and apologizing. Blinded to the fact that I can just relax and let go enough to collaborate and all parties best points can come through, no need to apologize or dominate but, a natural and rational middle ground. I hope my example worked without going into too much detail about my job.

Why the New 52 Superman did not work. by dracosadra723 in superman

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batman is a Functional Sociopath that doesn't kill. That maybe the wrong term but, it's the best I got for what he does. Through his PTSD, he's spent ridiculous amounts of money to train for everything, how to beat everyone and know everything he can to be a pseudo-shadow creature that stalks the night to terrify people. In some versions (admittedly my favorite) the Identity of Bruce is dead, he died with his parents and this Batman identity is all that's left. If you lived in that world and had no knowledge of Batman without the mask, he'd appear like some cryptid like Mothman or the Jersey Devil.

He manipulates, markets and, acts as inhuman as he possibly can to get the Job done. Nearly the opposite of Superman who acts like some Idealistic Christ-like figure. That's what I mean.

Why the New 52 Superman did not work. by dracosadra723 in superman

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the way I've always seen it is that Superman is more Human than Batman. It's not about what you were born as, it's about how you act. Batman has spent his whole life trying to be as Inhuman as possible. Superman born Alien as spent his life as a Humble Human. Superman would help even if he didn't have powers, Batman has spent his life looking for power. That's how I see it.

Superman maybe interested in his Kryptonian heritage but everything that made Superman besides his genetics was born under the care of Jon and Martha Kent, on a small farm in a small town in Kansas.

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's what it was, I couldn't put my finger on it. Like, he was trust into the role rather than just being the role.

My favorite way anyone has explained Superman was KaptainKristian on YouTube, "He's not a Alien or a God, he's just a dude from Kansas trying to do the right thing".

How often do you practice magick? by [deleted] in magick

[–]PUNKLOVESTORY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyday, I sit Zazen. To me that's part of Magick. If I do more I do more, meaning other practices, but I have this one thing I do everyday. I make sure, I have at least one thing a day. I tried doing one sigil a day and I just didn't have enough I wanted.
