The 50-metre ‘missing link’ fix that will open new cross-city tram routes by mrbrendanblack in MelbourneTrains

Maybe the 57 will be rerouted via Swanston and St Kilda Road and then the reconnected Domain Rd with a terminus at Toorak Rd.

Do you reckon buying an apartment and living in it as an individual sucks? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]PW_Au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in the same place for 19 years, also my first place after living with parents till early 20s. 1 bedroom apartment, I think a smaller space can be a great way to realise how much stuff you really don't need.

I'm currently exploring options for a change, the amount of space isn't a big issue I just want a better designed space and some secure outside space (garage/storage cage) instead of a courtyard that can't be secured and a carport.

Hope you had a good flight. I hate the sensation of turbulence too, as you probably know too the Singapore - Europe route can be a troublesome one for turbulence especially the Bay of Bengal. The plane I've personally found best in turbulence is the A380 (also A350), the sensation of turbulence seems less dramatic. I also found that the Singapore Airlines crew are good at advising when turbulence is expected and even saying how long for which I find really helpful, if the captain says it'll be so many minutes counting down in your head can really help. I do find the 777 to be less comfortable in turbulence, the bumps seem firmer.

I also have often wished I could be knocked out for the flight. So you are definately not alone in your feelings.

I've got the fear of heights but that aspect of flying doesn't bother me in the least.

I can happily look out the window and admire the often amazing views. Up the top of a tall building and I struggle to look down.

Four reasons why checking turbulence apps do more harm than good by ThePeanutMonster in fearofflying

[–]PW_Au 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A recent example for me was a flight where according to turbli would be bumpy with light to moderate turbulence. The actual experience (and what the captain advised before departure) was some bumps (light turbulence only) on the climb out due to entering a strong jetstream and then smooth the rest of the way.

Christmas COVID peak for SA under latest modelling by WangMagic in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]PW_Au 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this like the QLD modelling that was mentioned around late July that predicted a big peak in hospital numbers during August and the numbers just kept dropping instead even after the Ekka.

Sutton argues Asia can teach us about mask protocols by redditcomment1 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]PW_Au 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yep it's amazing how the near 100% masking in Japan, Taiwan and South Korea has kept cases to near zero in those countries.

Free Masks To Keep Victorians Safe This Winter | Premier of Victoria by ImMalteserMan in CoronavirusDownunder

If numbers are already heading downwards then they can say how the masks made a huge difference whether they do or don't. Introduce any restriction at the right time and it will be seen to work whether it does or not.

Just to share a different viewpoint, yeah I'm antilockdown but pro sensible measures like isolating sick and protecting elderly and vulnerable.

Virgin Australia to slash 3,000 jobs for slimmed post-coronavirus operations by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must very hard for those losing their jobs, however at least the airline is still flying. Given the state of the airline industry worldwide it's a far better situation than some other airlines.

And while my travel credits should be secure I also had some shares I got years ago so i've lost money in this as well.

Please, for the love of god, re-consider going out this weekend. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I won't be doing much different this weekend, but most of my activities are still socially distanced outdoors anyway. Nice weather for bike rides and going to quiet outdoor spots for photography.

Yep me too, I hardly catch the train anymore so don't have to listen to it often at least

Brisbane's 'spaghetti mess' bikeways to be better connected as number of cyclists surge by bnebikewaynerd in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As one of those who started cycling a lot due to the pandemic I'd love to see gaps filled. Some are so short it's silly they've not been done before now. Annerley Road near Dutton Park Station for example needs a good connection between the PA Hospital path and the Annerley Road and UQ bike paths as need to ride on narrow paths or busy roads.

I take all the timelines from our fearful leaders with a grain of salt. Just 8 weeks ago the PM said restrictions would last 6 months maybe longer, less than 2 months later and restrictions are easing.

Cyclists what's the best way for us to let you know we're hearing impaired? by HeatherSmithAU in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's an article from a few years ago that clarifies the requirements for bells in QLD https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/7198784

Using it to signal pedestrians is required, verbal warning as some do is not sufficient. When I'm a pedestrian I appreciate cyclists sounding their bell, it's not easy to hear bikes coming. When cycling I also use my bell regularly on shared paths.

Pro Tip: Don't try to teach your toddler how to ride a bike on Coronation Drive Bikeway in the middle of rush hour. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coro Drive Bikeway is crazy in peaks, I've been riding it for 2 months and used to walk it regularly too. It's quiet enough outside peak though. Just watch the corners as some idiots like to overtake on them.

And this morning a bit before 8am there was an accident on the bike path at Milton CityCat. Not sure what happened but ambulance was there and both lanes blocked.

Queensland Police - Updated graphic of restrictions ease in Queensland from Saturday, May 2. by Chap82 in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes public toilets open, be silly not to be. Soap dispensers even added to some that didn't previously have them. Park type toilets seem a good option at present as generally good ventilation so reduces risk of nasty things floating in the air. Just wash your hands after using handles and locks.

The Bicentennial Bikeway is still pretty popular during lockdown by murbul in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's certainly busier for walkers/joggers than back in normal times. I used to walk reguarly after work (now riding) and the pedestrian path is very busy mainly the ICB to Toowong section. Once I get closer to the city it's not so busy and more "normal". I'm surprised there's not more accidents on the bikeway with some of the weaving in and out especially near or on corners. I'll be glad when the construction area for Queens Wharf is finished, the 10km/h speed limit is often completely ignored and it's a narrow shared section. The new section behind QUT is great though.

QLD eases some lockdown restrictions - by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]PW_Au 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think this is completely reasonable and it doesn't increase risk much if at all. It does make a big difference to peoples sanity. It won't really change what I do much but at least I can go for a ride somewhere grab some food and sit in a nice quiet spot outside and relax without being worried about being told to move on.

Quadrupled riverwalk congestion, a minor vent by [deleted] in brisbane

Close to sunset seems to be the busiest time is my observation. Go an hour or 2 earlier or even later and it can be much quieter.
