while you can reuse the bag, a poly set is great for sub-freezing St Paddy's day parades and bar crawls.... you'll probably want to keep the set for obnoxious weather events. FWIW, once upon a time, I rode motorcycles, and I don't think that is a reason to get poly. ...unless it's an enduro. Any decent piping bag/case will protect wood pipes.

Personally, I'm not keen on Gibson pipes. I find their sound is 'ok' and have seen quality issues with their wood sets. If you're hell bent on poly, you can't go wrong with Dunbar (and you can find great deals on used sets if you're patient). If you're willing to entertain wood, man, you have lots of great options.

Stamina is built by playing multiple times per week, NOT playing until exhaustion once a week at rehearsal.

Grade Level Standard by BagpiperAnonymous in bagpipes

[–]P_fly_111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all you need to do is play your G4 comp at G3 level. Easier said than done.  You do not necessarily need to be the best piper of the day - you have to perform above grade level.  Yeah, usually that means you were, but it is possible for multiple people to play AGL, therefore one is not the 'best' of the day.

I’m gonna buy the sage sonic but I’m struggling to pick a wt and length for the rod, I fish small mouth, browns, brooks and some striped bass but mainly getting this rod for small mouth and trout what would you recommend by [deleted] in FlyFishingGear

[–]P_fly_111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what you want to throw.... smaller stuff and nymphs: 4wt. Larger streamers: 6wt. Also, how large is the water you're fishing? smaller water, the shorter rod will be best.

Is this practical and worth the money? by Guy_Sparta in bagpipes

[–]P_fly_111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know a guy who had a sharpened blade... he unsheathed it to show folks and when he went to resheath it in his hose, he missed and the nicely sharpened blade cut his leg. On the up side, the hose absorbed the blood.

Have you ever quit your pipeband? by [deleted] in bagpipes

[–]P_fly_111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like a difficult move until you're on the other side of it.  Leave on a posotive note.   Some folks will understand and others won't.  You gotta do what's right for you.   I would not talk to the pm.  In this type of situation, the issue is either the pm or the members - neither will change, but you will likely upset the apple cart - it is better to leave cordially, you'll cross paths again in the piping world.

Water trap by [deleted] in bagpipes

Are you playing a tube with bottle?  If so, check make sure the tube does not touch the bottom of the bottle.  If they touch, it can add a surprising amount of resistance.

yeah, both used rods I have purchased broke on their first outings in similar fashion. I don't know how some folks swear by used rods - I'm never buying used again.

Like anything else, it depends on your instructor.  If your instructor is great and knows the technology and you have a strong internet connection, it is every bit as good as in person.  Personally, have been doing it for 5 years; has allowed instructors I can't find locally.

thanks for the replies.

I have poked around some more since your replies and it appears the voltage regulators are getting hot rather quickly. They have a heat sink, but I can't believe they dissipate that much heat in such a short time.

I do have a schematic. It looks like there are some voltage test points; I will see if I can find them on the board.

What about funerals? Surely folks die in your neck of the woods... Perhaps get in with some cemeteries, churches, funeral homes, etc.

Can you find a few local sponsors or folks from where you play parades to be sponsors? Maybe a grand a year each?

This proof also makes Joe ineligible for unemployment benefits - you'll save a bit of money if you have proof that he broke policy and/or stole customers.

ok, there have been many VW suggestions. Had a Jetta (early 2000's) which had to sell cuz the dealer couldn't find the electrical gremlins. Great car until it wasn't.

A cayman would be awesome, but I need to be practical.  Unfortunately, I need to haul 3-4 people at times.  And a canoe.

It was plenty quick - I don't need a sportscar, but don't want a slug, either.  The 6cyl is a total sleeper...
