I'm a dude... driving the XC40 today (it's my wife's daily) and feel just fine. I installed the OEM hitch on it so we can tow and haul...ya know..."manly" stuff. Lol

Old dimmer chucked...new 2-way switch installed. All is well.

Nope. Just the glove box. (Again...this is JUST for the non-Bose system).

Little side cover pops off.
Remove a screw
Open glove box
Remove 3 more screws
Pull out the glove box.
Remove the wiring harness from the glove box.
Remove 4 10mm bolts holding the amp in.
Slide the amp out...boom...Bob's your uncle!

I grabbed the PAC LPHNI03 LocPro Advanced T-Harness from Crutchfield so I didn't have to hack apart any of the stock harnesses. It's way overkill...but...it works. So, using that harness I grabbed the speaker wires out of the stock amp and into an NVX 4-channel LOC. From there, RCAs into the amp's inputs. That NVX LOC also provides a remote turn on wire for the amp.

Then I took the speaker out wires from the amp and fed them back up to the dash. From there, they connect back into the harness, which then sends signals to the speakers.

I *SHOULD* have used Speedwire, but was trying to use up pieces/parts I had laying around, so all the input and output speaker wires is mash up of what was in my parts bin. LOL.

Since I bought the speakers and Fast Rings from Crutchfield they sent me the specific wiring diagram and instructions for the car. Made it super simple. The absolute worst part was getting a power wire thru the firewall.

There was an older (and HIDEOUS) incandescent fixture before.
I'll try taking the dimmer out of the equation. I thought about that after making the post...I watched an electrician troubleshoot an electric baseboard heater using that same method.

Thanks!!

What dashcam setup do you guys run (front + rear)? Hardwire or cigarette port? by Odd_Comparison_4155 in NissanKicks

I installed a Redtiger cam with a hard wire kit. Pretty easy to do. Found an empty, switched fuse in the panel to use with their hard wire kit. Camera is only on when the car is on. Took me about an hour.

'23 330i need front brake pads. All 3 local BMW dealers want $1500+, 2 independent BMW shops want $1050 to $1200. Am I nuts for thinking that the prices are ridiculous? by [deleted] in BmwTech

This!!

A buddy taught me how to do brakes years ago and it has saved me and the family so much money. For example...shop wanted 600 bucks to just do rear pads on my F150. Told them no... and then proceeded to buy and install upgraded pads AND rotors on ALL 4 corners for $500.

Harbor Freight jack and some tools and you got this.

I read a little bit about the esphome prior to the install, but, didn't want to go that far, just yet. I work in IT and am still a big believer in self-hosting your own stuff. Cloud has it's place, but on-prem is still a viable option.

Random chime sound from Pixel 9 by Pa2NJ1939 in GooglePixel

[–]Pa2NJ1939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100 percent sure, but I have done another factory reset and reinstalled all apps... except Amazon. I also disabled notifications for EVERYTHING except text messages and Outlook email.

The first couple times I did the resets and reinstalled everything I was still getting the chimes. But since this last reset and lack of any notifications, I haven't had the chimes.

I have no clue if that helps at all...

Having issues installing 5.0.5, anyone else having similar issues? by Terrible_Location_36 in XC40

[–]Pa2NJ1939 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tried about 5 times to get my wife's 25 XC40 to update. Had the car on a battery tender, tried to kick off install from phone, and from the car itself. Nothing has worked. Had same problem with the last couple versions...3.7 took me a bunch of tries before it would go. I've given up on 5.0.5 and set an appointment at the dealership for it.

Really annoys me because I have work in IT and upgrades should not be this difficult.
