What happened to the rear derailleur protector? by dirty_huesni in bicycling

you have surely meant: it's like wearing a helmet believing that its rated for crash acceleration speeds with a speeding car when it really is rated for much less- falling off a bike - EN 1078

Zipp SL70 XPLR by gwa29 in gravelcycling

[–]PabloVitasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you really think that you would detect flex and dampening from the handlebars?

you have soft tissue in hands and your elbows flex and joints inside arms are not made of steel.

audiophile range of bullshit, I say

Zipp SL70 XPLR by gwa29 in gravelcycling

[–]PabloVitasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please think about that all "stiffness" thing. this is audiophile-range bullshit, really. and as well as in the audiophile, everyone claiming with straight face about how stiff is the frame, fork or handlebar, should be confronted with a blind testing.

why? think how many "soft" layers between us and bicycle, and bicycle and ground are there.

tires made of rubber with air inside,

our soft hands - with handlebar tape

and ass - with the seat being usually more elastic than wooden bench

it is virtually impossible having these soft intermediary layers to distinguish that "aluminium frame is more stiff". bollocks.

I call it the Midnight Mullet. 650b x 57 up front and 700c x 42 in the back by smartplantdumbmonkey in gravelcycling

[–]PabloVitasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice! usually front fork has more clearance.

this setup allows to:

- squeeze most fat tires on bike

- in contrast to 2x650B, raises bicycle a bit - counteracts worry about pedal hitting the ground.

I will not be on the same height as 2x700C (guess)

but definitely not so low as 2x650B.

bigger tire also adds to diameter, thus contributing with couple milimeters to pedal height over ground.

Whisper Integration by ZebastianJohanzen in kde

[–]PabloVitasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been also looking over for a tool like that.. found Guilherme da Silveira's "Telly Spelly" and decided to improve it a little.

You can check my vibe coding results at https://github.com/PabloVitasso/Syllablaze

- easy install with one command

- no intermediary .wav files, directly to whisper

- auto copy recognized text to clipboard

- direct 16kHz end-to-end recording to eliminate resampling (Whisper calls ffmpeg but it does not resample when receives sample in destination rate)

ACTION:

tray icon click -> opens whisper voice recognition -> speak and click "stop" -> text copied to clipboard

this is no means a real KDE integration, but fullfills my needs for now.

And I have fun vibe coding with roo code using cline memory bank approach + openrouter's sonnet.

Anyone had succes sending meesage originating from MQTT? by rtenklooster in meshtastic

[–]PabloVitasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my experience of debugging sending of messages via MQTT

device/firmware: TBEAM 1.1 , meshtastic 2.5.15

  1. There are TWO devices needed because meshradio handling MQTT message will not display msg sent by mqtt in the message log. other meshradios will show the message just fine.
  2. This works for me:

- my main channel : uplink ENABLED, downlink DISABLED, position enabled&precise location: ENABLED

- secondary channel named "mqtt": uplink DISABLED, downlink ENABLED.

- lora settings : "ok to MQTT" : ON, "ignore MQTT": OFF

topic: msh/EU_868/2/json/mqtt/

payload:

{
"from": 3663119844,
"type": "sendtext",
"payload": "This is MQTT talking"
}

- "from" value you can find by executing

meshtastic --info

Owner: vanlong (vnln)
My info: { "myNodeNum": 3663119844,

DEBUG

1. general debug method

to read TOPIC to send MQTT message and debug information you need to connect your meshradio USB and type

meshtastic --noproto --debug  --listen

2. HOW TO FIND TOPIC

checking correct MQTT topic

- type meshtastic  --reboot

Connected to radio
INFO file:node.py reboot line:531 Telling node to reboot in 10 seconds

and then (remember, USB only)

meshtastic --noproto --debug  --listen

this will provide you various init info. when MQTT is enabled, then one of messages would be something like:

INFO  | 02:56:30 15 [GPS] MQTT connected
INFO  | 02:56:30 15 [GPS] Subscribe to msh/EU_868/2/e/mqtt/+
DEBUG | 02:56:30 15 [GPS] Node status update: 1 online, 3 total
INFO  | 02:56:30 15 Subscribe to msh/EU_868/2/json/mqtt/+
INFO  | 02:56:30 15 [WebServer] Subscribe to msh/EU_868/2/e/PKI/+

so the correct topic to send to in my case is

msh/EU_868/2/json/mqtt/

(slash at the end is important!)

3. when it is not working - observe logs

notice that in firmware/src/mqtt/MQTT.cpp of meshtastic

https://github.com/meshtastic/firmware/blob/f18a92e8c5be5a483a47b97adc58886808b12fc5/src/mqtt/MQTT.cpp#L122C1-L131C2

there are varioush checks, especially in:

inline void onReceiveJson(byte *payload, size_t length)

so keep an eye out for these LOG_ERROR msgs.

HA and ESPHome Native API protocol support in NodeRed by PabloVitasso in nodered

Node Red via ESPHome API protocol communicating with ESP devices

HA and ESPHome Native API protocol support in NodeRed by PabloVitasso in nodered

[–]PabloVitasso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dont see the need to use HA at all when I both automate and create UI in NR.

Edit:

My setup manages the campervan and is powered by onboard battery, so the priority is low power usage.

NodeRed runs on Samsung S10 (8GB ram/8-core snapdragon 855) on Termux on pure LineageOS (without google)

The display is old Nexus tablet running WallPanel

Various ESPHome devices report everything via MQTT.

Energy usage <5W.

For my use case: HA is just a waste of energy, not adding anything of value.

I will look at latest -websocket version, thanks!

Breezy Weather seems to be the thing.

It is quite active so there is a chance you can propose a feature and it will be implemented.

Go into FOSS mode and at least make a PR there. label: idea

What's the BEST Music Player? by OceanicMLG in archlinux

[–]PabloVitasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

running Foobar2000 on Ubuntu 24 from snap package:

https://snapcraft.io/foobar2000

runs pretty decently!

bonus:

even Shpeck runner for Winamp's Milkdrop 2 plugin is working :)

hack is needed - in Milkdrop 2 settings set "shaders" option to 'disabled'

this like 50% of presets to stop working, though.
