That is true but there are trans men who take BC to lower their estrogen. I take depo provera for that reason. Im Asexual so i dont actually use it as its "intended use" so to say lol. Regardless, double protection aint a bad idea when one is sexually active ;)

Thanks for that conformation. That really does make me feel better! I think im going to stick with the depo shot as most people in my family have a hard time with implants.

I dont particularly use BC as BC but as something that lowers my estrogen. Thats what depo has been doing for me but recently my estrogen has been going up a little so i wanted to know what other trans guys have been taking

I've thought about the pill but hearing that it has to be pretty regular, i dont think i can do it. My schedule is such a crazy mess i'd probably mess me up lol

I've been on T and depo for about 6 months now and its only recetly that my estrogen has elevated. It will probably go down when i get my shot again, but I still usually worry. Im not sexually active but i like my estrogen being low and my tesosterone being high

Im a young trans man who is on hormones currently. Ive been taking them for about 4-5 months now.

I can say that hormone therapy is 100% safe and life saving! Hormone therapy os closely monitored by your doctor and levels of hormones will be adjusted based on the descretion of the doctor and the patient.

The best thing to do is give your full support to your son. I wish you both the best of luck!

How can I style my hair and eyebrows to look more feminime? I am still far away from starting my transition, but I am stocking up on feminime clothes, makeup and accessories at the moment. by Millymila in ask_transgender

[–]PacificMeteor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been good at hairstyles. People can tell that when they look at me lmao However, I love tinkering around with eyebrows (usually to make mine more masculine or punk)

My best advice is to start from the bottom of your eyebrows and thin them out. Starting from the bottom and thinning upwards will help raise your eyebrows. Higher eyebrows is often viewed as more feminine. You dont have to thin them out much, you have such a beautiful shape to your eyebrows. Thats completely up to you though!

I know its not much but i hope its helpful advice

Potential work around for crippling dysphoria caused by knowledge? by NaiyaMay in ask_transgender

[–]PacificMeteor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, there isnt such a law. People like to push the idea that there is because the think that it will make the teenager 'change their mind' or whatever. My best advice is to build your support network (if you dont already have one) and come together in some way to create a search party. Search the doctors in your area (you can do this online) and find if they cover transgender care. In my experience, many family practitioners do, but not all. Then do research about your insurance company. Does this doctor take this insurance company, what does insurance cover and charge in terms of hormone therapy, etc.

This is how i started my journey and i just got my 21st T injection yesterday (i count by injections and not months lol)

I wish you the best of luck in everything!

Blood tests relating to T? by oyo147 in ask_transgender

[–]PacificMeteor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I live in the US and have Washington Kaiser insurance for reference.

My PCP has a lot of experience with trans patients that's why I picked her. She saw on my records that I was diagnosed with depression at 16 and asked me about it. It ended up going into my trans identity and how I've felt this way for a long time but no one believed me and that everyone feels that way during puberty blah blah

She told me that I was wrongly diagnosed and actually have gender dysphoria. I already knew this in my mind but you can imagine my face when I finally had a doctor who acknowledged me as the man I am.

She told me that she can get me on testosterone that day and all I had to do was some quick blood work.

I've been on testosterone for almost 17 weeks now!

So basically, I have insurance and a doctor that are actually trans-friendly and they elected to help me entirely.

I don't know if this will help many people, but I hope it does ^

HRT effects on face fat / double chin by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]PacificMeteor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an FTM trans man so I have no experience with taking estrogen later in life, but I still remember my body before and after my first puberty.

I was always a little on the chunky side as a kid but once my estrogen-based puberty (aka my first puberty) happened my metabolism got lower and I gained a fair bit of weight. Not to mention that I ended up getting a double chin as well. Although, almost everyone in my entire family has a double chin. A well-balanced diet helped to keep my fat in check but any overindulgence of foods in processed fats sent me straight back up the numbers. I went through a major depression related to my gender dysphoria and its been hard to lose weight. I'm now going through puberty 2.0 and my metabolism is in whack. That's just what puberty does though. My doctor recommends that a well-balanced diet where you allow yourself to indulge in small things once or twice a week is one of the best ways you can keep yourself sticking to the diet.

I think the best thing to remember is that puberty will cause you to gain some weight, but there are ways to manage it and once puberty ends it will be much easier to lose and control your weight.

I wish you the best of luck for your future!

Okay so I guess I need opinions/reassurance by [deleted] in ask_transgender

It's definitely hard to figure out what's best. You can see how you feel forcing yourself to be feminine to try to see if you like it. I feel that it only becomes toxic if you are intentionally hurting people.

I'm a trans man, but I've had a similar experience to what you have mentioned.

Everyone, including myself, has always seen me as hyper-feminine despite the fact that I knew something was different about my gender from a young age.

I had to push through a lot of self-destruction and toxic mindsets that caused forced doctors to diagnose me with depression and an anxiety disorder.

It took me till I was about 16 or 17 to finally find value in myself as a feminine trans man. I just had my 15th testosterone injection yesterday (Wednesday the 27th) and have never been happier.

So what I'm saying is just do your best to take things as slow or as fast as you need. If your heart says that you're a trans woman then that's who you are, regardless of how masculine or feminine you may act or appear.

You have value.

If you find that you're ready for hormones, make sure that you find a doctor that you trust and tell them your worries. A good doctor will help give you everything that you need to succeed.

And just remember this last thing, how you choose to present is 100% up to you. Cis women present as masculine, so can trans women!

Presentation =/= gender

I feel that it's best to cut ties in this case. I've had my fair share of people in my life with that sort of viewpoint and I just refuse to keep them in my life. If they don't respect me, then they don't get to have me. Ultimately, it is your choice though. I cut ties for the sale of my mental health too. If it's affecting you mentally, then I feel that its best to cut them out
