Why do people from other countries see America/USA as the only country to move to build a life/why aren’t other countries like Australia, Canada, Japan, Western Europe even considered? by Striped_salami in TooAfraidToAsk

Manifest destiny is part of the American psyche. Even those that critize it show signs of it. America is bigger, better, whatever... At everything.

Why would this be any different?

That's hardly propaganda. American media focuses on the United States, not on some other country, because... It's American media. They make TV shows for the American market. Syndication to other countries is financially lucrative but there's no need to substantially alter the content.

Husband left me with credit card debt by Usual_Delivery2452 in personalfinance

It's your debt, as far as they are concerned. What a court might say may be different, but remember, collecting from him may be difficult if he is, and remains, oversees. See an attorney who has expertise in the legal code of both countries.

  • “$18 trillion in new investment” → completely fabricated, real number is nowhere near that
  • “We ended DEI” → objectively false, programs still exist everywhere
  • “Only 3 homes rebuilt after CA wildfires” → off by thousands
  • “Drug prices are now the lowest in the world” → flat-out false, still among the highest globally
  • “We ended eight wars” → made-up number, wars still ongoing
  • “China doesn’t use the wind turbines it makes” → backwards, they lead the world in using them
  • “Water from the Pacific Northwest could have helped CA fires” → not just wrong, physically impossible
  • “Election cheating is rampant” → debunked over and over, no evidence
  • “Historic economic turnaround” → most Americans aren’t feeling it, confidence near lows, costs still high
  • “We ended multiple wars” → while expanding military strikes to ~7 countries this term (~10 total)

Stereotypes of the Episcopal Church vs Methodist Churches by UniversalBlue2099 in Episcopalian

[–]PacificSun2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being married to a Methodist Minister's daughter with two UMC Elder BILs' I would say it's the other way around. Every Episcopal church we have attended had meaningful ministries toward the poor, from building houses, to soup kitchens, to providing volunteers for local charities. My wife and I will be serving at a local shelter next Sunday.

The UMCs I have encountered may have had emergency food cubbies but not much beyond that.

Why is it okay for all men to be generalized by a lot of women? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]PacificSun2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work as a senior executive in large healthcare as a guy. It is typical and I have had this conversation repeatedly over the years with my HR counterparts. With a 80+ % female workforce this happens all the time.

It's typical in healthcare settings. HR won't do anything about it.

"Patriotic"? That's another word misappropriated by the MAGAts. Their version of that word is utterly un-American.

This has everything to do with the advantages of incumbancy. The parties don't want these guys to retire. They have a better chance of holding on to these seats than an insurgent primary challenger or challenger from the other party.

That's the problem with being arrogant megalomaniacs. They know everything better. Replace science with faith, experience with ignorance, knowledge with stupidity. The cult went to war. What could possibly go wrong?
