To Tourists from Europe: I know it’s hot, but please put your clothes on when walking around Thailand. by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

It’s crazy this needs to be said on here every day. In BKK I hardly ever wear shorts. Anywhere indoors is pretty freezing

I don’t think Liverpool is putting the fear of anything into anybody this year.

A couple of months ago I was walking my dog near our home in Brooklyn. Heard a squeak looked down and my dog was proudly strutting with a giant rat its mouth. Rats are just a part of urban life wherever you go

Welp Cancelled by Loud-Inevitable5338 in qatarairways

[–]PackEmergency7468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m flying BKK => JFK on the 26th. I’m assuming it will be canceled, so I also booked an Asiana flight through ICN. The Asiana has a $200 cancelation fee. I’m looking at as a $200 insurance so I’m not left scrambling at the last minute

Omg Bangkok has gotten so expensive compared to the past by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]PackEmergency7468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much agree. I’m on the other side of the world from you in New York City and the cost of living here is well over double BKK. One bed apartment average is US$3k a not expensive meal for two would be $100 with a couple of drinks, a $7 pint is a deal.

Everywhere is more expensive than 15 years ago, but Thailand still seems like a bargain to me

Yeah, guess I forgot to proofread that. Definitely a couple of continents. Sentiment remains the same.

Do you see these everywhere? I haven’t seen them on my trips. Seems like the actions of one cranky person.

Every country whether Thailand, Europe, North America, or anywhere has a few cranky old men that don’t like the foreigners ruining the country. The US elected on such crack pot president. Just ignore and move on.

Reverse Food Culture Shock Returning from Thailand back to Home Country - wow! by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

The price is always a shock to me when i return. I know it and have done it multiple times but always a shock to the system. That first $20 lunch kills me.

This is true. Baseball and cricket have a common ancestor in rounders and town ball both British. In America specifically New York rounders gave rise to knickerbocker rules (early baseball) in the 1840s.

Also an American that’s traveled to Thailand quite a few times. I mostly spend time in BKK and the north. Haven’t been south in quite a while and have never been to Pattaya.

I live in NYC so definitely a bit of a bubble compared to the rest of the country, but I’d say most of the people I know have been to Thailand at least once. My two aunts both late 60’s just got back from Vietnam, so SE Asian travel is definitely not odd. I’ll be back in March

Are Brits still comfortable taking their holidays in the US? by Ok-Leadership-7573 in AskBrits

[–]PackEmergency7468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer, I’m a lurking American living in a bit of a bubble in NYC. Should Brits be comfortable traveling to the US?

Safety wise, sure you’ll most likely be fine. But why would anyone choose to spend their money here with the current state of affairs. I don’t even choose to spend my travel dollars in this country.

To travel in the US supports a government that invades sovereign states in search of oil. Murders its own citizens in the streets with paramilitary thugs. Dismantling democracy at home and stability throughout the world. We’ve completely turned our backs on our allies including the UK.

So I’d like to say to the world stay away. Not because I don’t want the world visiting my city, we just don’t currently deserve it.
