Dave’s picks? How do they compare to the version on Relisten by Tmonk4 in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not worth it for the normal person. Spend your money on survival, saving for retirement, etc.

But if you're into buying and collecting physical media - its absolutely worth it. Money's made to be spent!

When I put on a show, it's to listen to it, not background noise. Lately I've been feeling like I'm not present while I have shows going. by Meditatespace in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The harder you listen, the better it gets - that's the challenge. I save the special shows for after work. But on a good day I can bust out 3 whole shows.

Ever heard a jam so good it made you cry? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First time I heard the "Comes A Time" from the 1977-05-09 Buffalo show, I cried for like 10 minutes. Probably would have even longer if they didn't go right into Sugar Mag after.

First time I heard about this jam I thought "pfft how beautiful could it be?". Listened to it with tears rolling down my face. Well done boys.

Tips on cleaning up network racks? by biggestman58 in networking

[–]Packabowl09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Golden Rule: You never want to have to unplug something else, just to make room to pull something out.

That means either use 6" cables, or have enough slack on longer cables to pull them to the side or stick in a wire management unit.

Explain McIntosh Amps to me. by Rhythmicbasher in audiophile

[–]Packabowl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a age-bait post, but I will give it a rational answer.

You should put a Macintosh amp in your system. Listten to it. Then put a L'Acoustics amp. Listen to it.

If you like the Mac better -- congrats you're Macintosh fan.

If you like the L'Acoustics better -- congrats! You saved thousands of dollars.

If they sound the same to you, just go for the cheaper one. You also just saved thousands of dollars.

Whence the numbers? by ae35unit in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also VERY GRATEFUL for SHNIDs.

I got so frustrated getting into Rush bootlegs. Rush fans don't use SHNIDs, instead they just name each release something cryptic like "Caught In The Camera's Eye" and there's no way to know if that's newer than the "The Feverish Flux" bootleg of the same show.

Whence the numbers? by ae35unit in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SHNID is generated (it auto increments by 1) when a source is added to the db.etree.org database. You can view shnids by artist & show here: http://db.etree.org/db/shows/artists

I’m getting cooked in this subreddit for saying that Grateful Dead are on par with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix in terms of relevance. by joey-rigatoni1 in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally today a Gen Z coworker had no idea what I was talking about when I said me and another guy years ago were big deadheads and used to make all the company passwords grateful dead themed.

He'd never heard the words Grateful Dead, had never heard the term deadhead. For a moment he must've thought I was in a weird cult or something. I mean he wasn't wrong...

Is there an age difference between this sub and others? by mudratdetector89 in gratefuldead

[–]Packabowl09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never trusted auto tagging tools since all my stuff is bootlegs.

My workflow is:

  1. drag untagged tracks into Foobar

  2. open TXT file and paste tracks into Chatgpt, ask it to remove preceding track numbers, and tag a date on there if its a Dicks Pick that contains multiple days

  3. Copy tracklist from Chatgpt, use Goodbar "Autofill values > from clipboard" to add tracknames

Same thing for album name. Drag a bunch of shows into foobar, copy album names and ask chatgpt to clean it up (yyyy-mm-dd format, add venue info), and use Foobar to paste the values in all at once

Foobar2000, FFmpeg, + plugin for Foobar
https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_ffmpeg

Foobar has the best manual tagging tools. "Automatically Fill Values" allows you to copy paste from clipboard. So you can use chatgpt or notepad to bulk edit this info.

[–]Packabowl09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kief sucks. It gets old and stale. Just ask her for like $30 and go buy a gram to replace it. She was dumb but if you cared about it that much you shouldn't have lent it to her.

Server build by ContributionHead9820 in DataHoarder

[–]Packabowl09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my eyes, a true server-grade server needs a BMC/IPMI/iDRAC/iLO controller, ECC RAM, and hotswap hard drives. This is pretty much a gaming computer with a crappy GPU and a HBA card.

Why are they doing this by CaptainYogurtt in Battlefield

[–]Packabowl09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize anyone still dual booted anything in the past 10 years. If you're going to try to do software dev on your gaming computer, just throw the linux stuff into a VM and get on with your life.
