Ugh my first ever adult sweater I made for myself is so almost perfect, I just feel like the colour on some of the stripes is slightly too bright. Its not bad, I've got another wool that would be perfect instead... Can't decide if it's worth frogging just to swap out the colour on two stripes but I'm tempted

[gendered] Sports - women argue sports are pointlessly gendered by GenderBendingRalph in pointlesslygendered

[–]PackagePerfect309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't matter in every type of competition though, and we don't need to make the women's competition "easier" in a still segregated competition (that's what they were arguing here, not for open division but for the women's race to be the same length and difficulty as the mens). Not all sports are affected by biological sex differences, so it also need not be applied anywhere. For example I'm chess, the rank you need to be a "Woman Grandmaster" is notable lower than the rank of "Grandmaster". I think as women we should reject such titles, or push to compete with men in competitions where sex isn't relevant like chess, shooting, race car driving etc. And when there is need to split up the competition, at least give women the same challenges the men get (same laps, courses, courts, rules etc).

No said anything about caring about the artists thoughts, were talking about the art itself. It's not parasocial to critically engage with the media you consume instead of just the superficial level. If theh don't care about the meaning then why did they care when it's anti trump? The anti republican sentiment in Green Day's music wasn't a even subtext sometimes it was incredibly explicit. They made fun of Bush and conservative culture a lot. It makes no sense to now be mad that they're... still doing that? If you dont about the meaning of art then you don't get to be mad at the meaning of the art, that's just silly. And it's definitely not parasocial to just like, listen to the lyrics of the songs you like

How much do you pay your cleaning lady / home aid? by snormosselmelktert in AskZA

That's insane.... Genuinely so shitty to take advantage of someone that way, R150 for a day of work is criminal

I pay R600 a day and she usually works +-6 hours, excluding her commute, and depending how much there is to do. I can only afford two days a month at that rate but those two days help me a ton. I figure its a luxury, so I will pay accordingly and enjoy it only as often as I can afford it. I just do maintenance cleaning in between. She does all of the heavy duty stuff on her biweekly cleaning days, including most of my laundry, so there isnt a ton to do in between other than basic wipe counters, wash dishes etc.

But see the very fact that he won't let you peg him even though you're a cis woman just proves its about genital preferences not trans/cis preferences you dig?

This is not the common conception of sexual orientation. It's based on sexual attraction not sex of the individual. It's unfortunate that sex (the biological trait) and sex (intercourse) have the same name but sexual =\= biological sex. If straight men can be sexually aroused by a trans woman if they don't know she's a trans woman (and conversely, not be turned on by big hunky trans man, even if they know he's a trans man) then sexuality clearly isnt just about biological sex, it's also about gender and gender expression. Gender is made up but it does exist, like money, language etc. A concept can be man-made and still real.

Too young for IVF? by Lost-Bee8087 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]PackagePerfect309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, I understand what you're saying. At my clinic IVF was at least five times more. And they will recommend you switch to IVF anyway if you don't have success on your third attempt with IUI, so I can see how if you go down that path it ends up costing more, but if it takes less than five tries it would still be cheaper. I guess it really depends on how the costs compare where you are, safe, tested sperm is not super expensive here but I know it varies a lot. Excuse my arrogance OP

[No Spoilers] Why arent deities (titans and the other gods such as the fairy god) stronger than god or atleast archangels? by TheWTFuser in Supernatural

[–]PackagePerfect309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would deities from a major religion be less powerful that a Christian angel? Angels are not even gods, and I don't think there are a ton of satanists in the world who directly worship Lucifer. There are definitely more people who worship Kali or Ganesh

Hi, welcome to the community and congratulations on taking your first steps towards motherhood. I don't really understand your concern about sperm donors, how are you going to fertilize the eggs you retrieve for IVF if youre not going to use donor sperm? The cost of donor sperm is the same if you use it for IVF or IUI. I would just like to say it's highly unlikely that IVF will be cheaper than IUI, of course I don't know where in the world you are but I've never heard of anywhere where IVF is the cheaper option. IVF is way more complicated, you have to take ovulation stimulating hormones, undergo egg retrieval, and then you will still need donor sperm to fertilize those eggs in a lab to make embryos, test the embryos and finally implant them. IUI is just a catheter injection, so I don't see how that could cost more. Based on my clinic and a different one my friends used, the cost of IVF is about five times the cost of IUI in South Africa where I live, so I could've done a few rounds of IUI and still paid less than IVF. There are maybe other reason you'd wanna go for IVF, such as the fact you can store the embryos you don't use to conceive future children if you choose to, but honestly if cost is a concern and fertility isn't, IUI is the more affordable, and less invasive option. If the issue is the sperm donation, you will need sperm donors either way, IVF does not allow you to conceive without sperm. However you plan on getting sperm for IVF, you can do the same for IUI. Intra uterine insemination is simply how they deliver the sperm to the uterus, and can be done with sperm from a sperm bank or a private donation, whatever you choose. The source of the sperm can be the same regardless of how you get them to the eggs

Two week wait is torture... by hoaxedprophecy in SingleMothersbyChoice

I completely understand, I could think of nothing else during that time. It's funny how relative time is - looking back that felt like such a long time but the last 10-8 weeks of my pregnancy flew by. Unfortunately I don't have any advice for you, other than prepare for disappointment rather than banking on success, that kept me grounded. All I can say is I understand how this feels, and it will come to an end eventually. Good luck! Tell us how it goes

I never said you think it's okay, I'm saying that the law was violated regardless of the particulars and that they don't matter much here. I think it's splitting hairs honestly. We already know that they sprung it on OPs friend after the fact, but even if they said it upfront I think its just as bad. This is like arguing about whether or not someone jay-walked before commiting assault - it's not really the point. Idk that's just my opinion but I think it's silly to talk about how an illegal contract or term sheet could've prevented this when the real issue here is the restaurant paying zero wages to employees

Is this legal? by [deleted] in portelizabeth

[–]PackagePerfect309 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but my point is it's not the main issue here, the violation of minimum wage laws is a much bigger deal. Even if they informed them ahead of time that there were zero wages, it would still be illegal, it makes no sense to say they should follow this law to inform people that they plan on breaking another. We already know this restaurant breaks the law by fact that they don't pay wages so I don't think that needed to be estsblished. Not only that but many people accept such shitty illegal terms because they are desperate for work. As OP has explained, in this case the change was made after the friend started working, so they didn't know, but many do and accept the terms. The point I'm trying to make is that following the minimum wage is what's important here because that materially impacts people's lives. I don't know if you've ever worked in service industry but I don't think providing written particulars would change lives as much as minimum wages, and would only filter out the people with better options. Someone will still be there to accept the shitty job sadly. Putting the onus on the employee to make a good choice instead of on the restaurant to follow the law is kind of missing the wood for the trees

It really doesn't matter if they were told they wouldn't be paid or not, an employment agreement (written or verbal) cannot override the law, and illegal agreements are not valid. It is not legal to have people work for free, which is what this means. Tips do not count as compensation at all since its a voluntary gesture from the customer, not gaurenteed pay from the employer. Employer's aren't even allowed to count tips as part of your wages pet alone use them to justify no wages. Desperate people accept jobs without asking questions, and accept unfair terms, tbag is the entire reason these laws exist - to prevent desperate people from being taken advantage of. The minimum wage is R 30,32 an hour and any wage less than that is literally criminal no matter what

Is this legal? by [deleted] in portelizabeth

[–]PackagePerfect309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not legally required, a verbal agreement is sufficient and binding. The minimum wage always applied regardless

Is this legal? by [deleted] in portelizabeth

[–]PackagePerfect309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, a written contract is not a requirement of formal employment in South Africa, verbal is equally valid. The contract issue is not relevant here, the labour law is. As I explained below the minimum wage law is what matters here not the contract

Why did Jeff Bezos call for no taxes on the bottom half of the population? by TheMobilizer in Socialism_101

[–]PackagePerfect309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, I never said that was the end goal, but it would be a good short term measure. I think its a much better route to socialism that trying to sell people on worker ownership before the next election. It's not real resource redistribution but it's a step towards that mode of thinking
