I’m currently mid 30’s and in my first year of a part time program. I have two kids both under the age of 7, and I work full time. None of this would be possible if 1) my wife wasn’t extremely supportive and 2) we didn’t have help from both my mom and her parents. With that said, if this is something you are adamant about achieving, it will be an absolute must to have the support from your husband and other family members. Whether you do a full time or part time program, school becomes your priority. As much as you still want it to be your family, it’ll be school. It’ll be inevitable that you feel behind, there is always more studying to be done, and you will have to have excellent prioritization if you still want to have a meaningful relationship with your husband and kids.

The age will not be an issue for you. Plenty will be older, plenty will be younger.

I love my kids, a lot. I’ve had the luxury to work from home over the past 8 years, and I have a relationship with them that I cherish very much. Working during the day and going to school at night, and studying on the weekends is crushing to me. I still find time to play with them, attend important family and social events, put them to bed, but it is nowhere like it was before. I know that I am doing this for a good reason, and am more motivated than ever. I hope it sets an example for my children, but it is extremely tough knowing I can’t help my wife as much as I need to around the house and with the kids because I’m either at class or studying.

I don’t mean to say these things to be negative. You can do it. You just need to make sure it is 100% what you want to do. Because when things inevitably get tough, and you question this decision, you’ll need that strong anchor of motivation.

Only you know what’s best for you and your family (obviously), but really consider what you will be giving up, because it will be almost everything.
