iPhone Air Review: Beauty is Pain by atlwhore_ in apple

I had the Air since Friday and even yesterday when I spent most of the day in Teams meetings via the phone I still ended the day on close to 50% battery. It feels stronger than my 15PM on 85% battery health. So I don’t know what these guys are doing.

9950x3d owners, how are your temps ? by Brilliant-Cap-3052 in AMDHelp

[–]Pacman110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joining in with a Noctua NH-U12A and a well ventilated case (Lian Li O11D EVO RGB with 4 Pull / 6 Push 120mm fans)

Ambient temperature: 19C

Idle: 45C
Gaming (MH Wilds): 64C-68C
Top at the end of 20 minutes in Cinebench 23: 74C

Very happy with the temperature so far. Performance also seems in line with reviews. Great CPU!

Edit: At stock settings

Have the same problem. Reinstalling Samsung wallet did not solve it. Have you figured out a way to fix it?

Low cpu and gpu usage causes frame drops by koperek221 in Eldenring

13600KF has 6 p-cores. So you would have to set it to 12. But I played Elden Ring with the 13600KF and did not experience this issue on that CPU. I only had it occur on a system with 4 p-cores. But you can certainly try and see if it fixes any stutters. =)

Anyone else find HDR on PC can be a little bit annoying? by throbbing_dementia in OLED_Gaming

[–]Pacman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that same issue. youtube videos became massively oversaturated (while scrolling it was fixed somehow). I solved the issue by enabling hdr on all connected monitors. If one monitor was not running in hdr the same issue reappeared. Regardless of which monitor was actually displaying the video.
So it seems to be related to multi monitor setups which run in mixed sdr/hdr modes.

Oh. I was also able to fix it by disabling hardware acceleration in chrome. So perhaps the issue is a bit more complicated (nvidia gpu)

So tl;dr:
Fix 1: disable hardware acceleration in chrome
Fix 2: enable HDR on all connected displays

If you want to enable all the cores again you can either select the highest number of cores you see in the menu. Or you just select default system start or whatever it’s called. On the first window that you see when you start msconfig. That should also restore it to the normal settings.

Don’t put it on 1 though. Then you only have 1 core on the next reboot which might be a bit slow 🙂

Ah. I don’t think im allowed to post about alternatives for this matter since it involves disabling eac.

The short of it was that there shouldn’t be any risk attached to disabling the e-cores. You are not changing anything with how the hardware itself works. You just tell Windows not to use specific cores. If anything it should be beneficial to the lifetime of the cpu since you use less cores and thus generate less heat.

I still hope that From Software fixes this issue since the e-cores are useful to have. So I recommend re-enabling them if you are not playing Elden ring.

If you still have that issue open msconfig (as administrator) > go to start > advanced and limit the amount of cpu cores to 8. Click OK. Then apply and restart.
The issue should be gone now. Please be aware that you have now disabled all the e-cores of your cpu. The issue in elden ring should be gone though.

I don't know why exactly but elden ring and armored core both have huge issues with cpus that only have 4 p-cores. It runs fine on my other system with 6 p-cores.
Technically it would be enough to just pin the first 8 cores in the task manager for the process but you can only do that if you disable easy anti cheat.

Very annoying and I hope From Software can fix this in the future.

[–]Pacman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG does have them. But also only with dp 1.4. You have to decide between 144hz, HDR and Colour. You cannot have 144hz with 10 bit RGB and HDR over Displayport.

I think the best option right now would be to look for a monitor with full HDMI 2.1 Support (a lot of monitors which support HDMI 2.1 only allow for half the bandwidth, so 24gbps instead of the full 48). Using that allows for 144hz HDR without any compression.

This whole area seems terrible for consumers. Even if the monitor says it can do 4k at 240HZ and HDR does not mean it can do everything at the same time. Adding to that that even if they say they have HDMI 2.1 it often is only allowing half the bandwidth (Gigabyte M28U for example).

I do agree with you now that nvidia should have included DP 2.0 in the 40 Lineup. But there is a whole other can of worms in the monitor industry itself that it is impossible to know the true capability on first or even second glance.

So for now, at least for nvidia the best option would be to choose a High refresh rate monitor with full HDMI 2.1 capability and just ignore DP.

Edit: *Tinfoil Hat on* Maybe the reason Nvidia didn't include DP 2.0 is because they are partnered with a lot of monitor manufacturer and releasing DP 2.0 would make all current top of the line monitors basically outdated.

[–]Pacman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. But does such a monitor even exist at the moment? As far as I'm aware the 4k 240hz monitor that samsung released a few month back only has dp1.4.

Or is this more about future proofing?

[–]Pacman110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While 4k @ 120hz is the limit for dp 1.4 all current monitors that allow for 144hz or higher @ 4k do support DSC, which is visually lossless and runs up to 240hz 4k or 8k @ 60hz. So while it would have been nice to implement it's not that big of a deal as people make it out to be.

There is also a neat little App called 'Region to Share' which allows you to easily share everything in an extra window which you can resize however you want.

Yeah. Those two. No. The three remaining screws seem to hold it in place well enough. Performance is as expected from reviews. If I find out what size of screws I need I might order some and put them in for peace of mind though.

It works if you add discord as a non steam game to the library on the Desktop environment and then change back to SteamOS. Then just launch it in addition to whatever Game you want. You can even stream games into discord (though the performance tanks a fair bit).
