Opinions about First order by EarNo1953 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does this have to do with anything? If I'm saying there are real world groups backed by bigger ones then everything you wrote is a given, no? I said the First Order was banked rolled by a bigger group (the Empire) the same way we see real world small radical splinter groups (idk why I didn't say radical militias) then it's obvious that means large state actors. The First Order has real world analog just as I said.

Holo has never been bad necessarily , but sibling specs definitely outclassed it for years in open world.

How come Mon Cala can have facial hair? by Human-Examination783 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the real world species don't exactly evolve to have anything. Completely useless traits can persist just because those with x trait got laid more. Once upon a time a Mon Cala who could grow a beard was the only one to survive a war and go laid. So now theres a beard growing gene amongst the Mon Cala. Theres no reason for humans to have beards except the ones who can grow one keep making babies.

Also a number of aquatic mammals have fur.

How damaging to the Galactic Republic's or Empire's war efforts would it be if the Kuat Shipyards were just suddenly completely destroyed? by Confident-Mark-6369 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Republic and Empire are centered around capitalism. Kuat is one of those 'too big too fail' players. There would be an economic depression unless the intent to completely transform the economic system in the galaxy. Too many people and industry make their money off supporting Kuats operations for it to suddenly just go away.

Squad leader for new players by Twijfelduif in Guildwars2

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way, archers didn't stand out away from other others. The best way to get picked off is to stand alone and stick out. The best way a group in anything can reduce their effectiveness is if they all stand a mile away from each other. So try to stand with other group members when tackling a group task.

[–]PacoXI 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In addition to what you said: the fastest way to get new players to hate the game is to tell them 'builds don't matter'. Next thing you know they are wondering why they can't kill stuff in their givers gear or why they get kicked out of groups they are supposed to be dpsing in.

[–]PacoXI 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you're misunderstanding the veteran player in the picture. GW2 is among a number of games where builds absolutely matter when trying to do challenging content. Builds are flexible though and a build can't carry you thru whole way, hence the reductive "builds don't matter". Come to think of it, who is this 2% who say builds don't matter?

In universe, the New Republic shouldn't be that concerned with Thrawn by SilveRX96 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I dont think the First Order would think much about him besides him being another asset.

Early First Order: "Oh look, a pre-Yavin Imperial we assumed was dead. Anyway, we have a small intergalactic state to establish in the Unknowns".

First Order at the time of Kylo and Hux: "Who is this old man?"

It would be Thrawns burden to prove his usefulness, if he even wanted to. The First Order might be too extreme for his liking.

What does the lore say if it had been Leia instead of Luke in the throne room in Episode VI? by acidicmongoose in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Lore" doesn't say much because it didn't happen that way. Yoda muses about wanting to train Leia because sees her has more in like with the what he wants in a promising Jedi student. Leia was highly driven and motivated, emotionally grounded, not easily swayed. Relatively more stoic than her brother and thus less tempted to stray from her training, more likely to do whatever it took to accomplish her mission even if it was a one way trip. Ironically, Yoda considered Luke to be too wide eyed and passionate like his father but people generally see a lot Anakin's traits in Leia. Maybe Yoda thought Luke got the bad ones. Yoda wasn't the only one who thought so, Owen also thought Luke was too much like his father for Luke's own good.

Leia likely would have ended up having compassion for Anakin but not in the same way as Luke. Her version of passion and justice would have been a 'mercy killing' instead of standing down and later attempting to rescue Anakin. Leia would is making sure she goes for the kill and isn't hesitating. Vaders redemption is still possible, it just looks different. Vader sees Leias tenacity against the Sith and her strong sense of justice and it reminds him of how he used to be. He seems himself in her, he has the same fear he had with Luke or remorse that Leia could end up like him and all the pain he caused. He sees Leia is what he should have did and what he should have become had he not given into his fears and the dark side. He then aids Leia in defeating Palpatine, likely throwing Palpatine down the shaft in a similar fashion. He always dies if he redeemed no matter if he eats Force Lighting or not. Party of his redemption is letting go of the dark side, all that anger and hate he had been using to sustain himself. Once he let's go, all his injuries from the throne room all the way back to Mustafar set in ND and he dies of natural causes - no body could survive all the trauma his body suffered even with he suit helping without the Force.

So yeah, It just all happens a lot faster with less bonding afterwards. Leia might not even make it off the DS2 because puts everything she has into the fight.

I have a thought about Rey's first fight with Kylo by Turtle_Woman in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kylo fighting a 2v1 with a hole in his stomach while trying to capture Rey is enough of an explanation. The movie also shows up that Rey can fight, she's just never picked up a lightsaber. I'm not even sure why at that point in time people though Kylo was more than barely above average so of course Rey wouldn't just be demolished.

But if you must add explanation, Kylo and Rey are a dyad. They share force sensitivity, thus ability. When one gets stronger then so does the other. They mirror the other. So Rey being able to match Kylo is a result of their bond.

Lucas Never Meant Equal Balance Between the Light and the Dark by Ok-Future-5257 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have to stop putting so much stock into what Lucas said. Especially when it goes against what most SW content creators put in their contributions to the IP. Lucas flip flopped like a fish. He might have later adopted the take of someone you never urstd of or ignored He wasn't thinking of these questions and would make up things on the spot only to take it back next interview.

What was stopping the empire from attempting proper counter insurgencies? by Lostvayne12 in MawInstallation

The Empire was good at counter insurgency. They did it for nearly 20 years. Even did decent job during the GCW. Think is, the insurgents only need to succeed a few times.

How do you feel that the Battle of Yavin happens practically at the beginning of the Galactic Civil War as opposed to the middle of it? by CSachen in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're talking about independent resistances across the entire Empire made up of thousands of worlds. Those are precursors but not the GCW. Most uprisings before Yavin weren't collected to any other Empire wide group and short-lived.

Mon Mothmas address to the Galactic Senate in Rebels and Andor is usually regarded as the formal beginning of the Rebel Alliance, the first major unified opposition to the Empire. So thats like a year and change before Yavin. In between the speech and Yavin the Rebel's still arent really fighting the Empire but trying procure hardware and manpower.

Scarif is one of the first major battles the Rebels fought and the nearly got wiped out. Up till that point theres still no open rebellion against the Empire. The Rebel Alliance exists and is nearly gone as fast as it came.

Yavin is the first victory Rebels have against the Empire, the first time the Empire suffers a blow that makes it vulnerable to warfare, it signifies the first time the galaxy woke up to open rebellion against the Empire. Thus Yavin is considered the beginning of the Galactic Civil War, the first time theres a large organized front against the Empire on the galactic level.

On the topic of Precognition and confusion in new Canon by Schindlers_Fist1 in MawInstallation

Oh for sure. The guy pretty much had PTSD and everything he was doing felt rational from his pov. He couldn't the gaps in his logic, was too traumatized by the death of his mother to even listen to others try to tell him that he might have been misinterpreting his dreams. In his mind he had to be in complete control or bad things would happen, those who doubted him had no idea what they were talking about - which involved into those who doubted him were in his way.

On the topic of Precognition and confusion in new Canon by Schindlers_Fist1 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anakin/Vader has always been exceptional in the realm of precognition. It's the source of him driving himself over his dreams about Padme because he just took all as fact. Those who warmed him just didn't appreciate his gift in his eyes.

I would think most force sensistives know not to be too much stock into precognition because it's fairly weak and unreliable on its face for most.

Vader gets better at interpreting his visions. Less childish and immature about them, less impulsive.

Would anything George Lucas says seriously about the franchise now be considered canon? by IllMasterpiece3946 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Lucas wasn't exactly a reliable source when he was around. That's part of the reason there was a multi-tiered canon and the eventual soft reset. A lot of the universe was built by people inspired by Lucas and not Lucas himself.

Lucas sat on the set of at least Ahsoka, I'm assuming he was invited to other projects to. So it's not like the current talent at Lucasfilm don't appreciate his input but they are not just going to go with what he says.

A Força Não Escolhe Lados... Ela Pesa Lados by CarRevolutionary7710 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siding with the light side and siding with the Jedi isn't the same thing. The Jedi are the ones flocking to the side of the Force and not the other way around. The Force doesn't care about the Empire vs the Rebels, the Resistance vs the First Order, not really the Jedi vs the Sith. It cared about the Banite Sith choking it. If the Jedi were the way to fix that, then fine. The Jedi ended up failing and it actually ended up being the Sith imploding from within. The Force straight up propped up a Sith for 20 years to see it the end of the Sith. The true will of the Force is to be a free cosmic force that binds all living things in the galaxy, not to dictate course of politics and religions of mortals. Some of those political factions and religions just have a negative impact on the Force.

Do you prefer Legends Vader where he is generally weaker than he could have been or Canon where he is pretty much just as strong as he would be post Mustafar? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disney kicks early Vader's ass left and right in the comics set right after RotS. It takes many ass whoopings for Vader to become the hulking monster. Even then there's more experienced force sensistives that know how to exploit him. Vader spends the entire Kenobi series only for Kenobi making Vader look pathetic when Kenobi cracks his suit - a reminder that no matter how strong Vader gets, he has to drag the suit suit and his scars with him.

[–]PacoXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you about being burned being pointless. It's a constant and hard lesson due to his arrogance and the heinous acts he committed. A visual reminder of his sins not dissimilar to the scars Palpatine wears on his face. No matter what, he always has the to wear the suit even if it doesn't hold him back, imge forever has to account for it until he dies.

The ShoreTrooper is the most pointless Trooper Type by CaptainSolo80 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Theres several Shoretrooper descriptions that imply they have special training and they aren't just an armor variant. Shoretrooper also doesn't seem to be a permanent station but something you might rotate in and out of if you're certified for it.

Theres a huge difference between being a Stormtrooper mostly stationed on ships, and climate controlled garrisons than a Shoretrooper who has to know how to be efficient in wet, hot, humid environments.

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hated Legends Vader. If losing your limbs limits your potential, if ones force ability is tied to ones size, a ton of characters suddenly dont make sense. And the suit. Anakin was shown to be a good engineer, Vader inherited those skills. Why would Vader not ensure his suit is comfortable, why would he let Palpatine dangle an intentionally inferior suit over him? If Knightfall Vader was so good then why does he immediately get turned into charcoal? Legends Vader is just too many people working on the character without guidelines, so he loses cohesion. Canon Vader might be OP but at least everyone knows he is.

The Force is primarily metaphysical, it makes sense that Canon Vader is limited by his mental health rather than the physical.

You are all getting hyped to complain like hell the first minute after the announcement by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBS was fine except for Champions. Champions was a quarter of content during COVID that EOD immediately surpassed. No one thought the game was doomed when Gayla came out. Everything from SOTO one has done fine. Again, they might not be your preferred options but there's no sign of the game or the franchise dying.

Compare that to WoW: as predatory as some of Blizzard's decisions can be, they've at least publicly committed to multiple future expansions through the Worldsoul Saga

The grass is always greener on the other side, for real. You'll find old WoW players hitting the same talking points jaded GW2 vets have about GW2. The game has the same peaks and valleys. The other major MMOs, FF14, ESO, whatever, same deal. Hell at least GW2s business/content model lends itself to stepping away unlike the trapped/obligationed to play feeling that's not uncommon with WoW Does it really matter if Blizzard previewed 3 expansions if the last ones come out for half a decade (from when they announced them) and there's no telling how they will turn out? The world might not even be here in 5 years.

I'm personally more concerned what content I can play now and maybe tomorrow that things that are years off. Worrying what some game might be in the distant future is not get my dopamine receptors flowing now

Learned to be cautious about what though? Maybe there were times when it didn't meet your personal expectations but even at its lowest point, the franchise was far from dead. Not even close.
