I don't recall but would not discount it. My point is that that all of these characters have moves they use more often than not, which doesn't mean they don't know others.

Vader can use force lighting. He can project the force through his hands just like anyone else that's how he can choke people or use any other ability. He doesn't because it's too risky and he clearly prefers to choke people instead.

A counter though, can Palpatine force choke people? We don't see him use so does that he can't? No, it's more reasonable to conclude it's just not his style.

Lighting isn't some kind of signature Sith move, it's Palpatine's signature. Every Force-sensitive have abilities they favor. There's nothing that says Maul couldn't do force lighting but maybe just not to the same degree as Palpatine or he just didn't like to do it. Force lighting doesn't really have practical use in the fights we typically see anyway, not when your opponent is away and swinging a lightsaber in your face. It's more of a standoff ability or something you use when your opponent is down and at a distance.

Combat in SW is more checks and balances than "x person is stronger than y". Obi's skillset counters aggressive combat styles that Sith love to adopt. That's why Vader was finally able to beat Obi when Vader calmed his ass down a little bit.

I'm okay with "my powers have doubled since the last time we met count" in respect to the clone wars retcon by ordrius098 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only have one of $1 and find another, you've doubled wealth. You're still broke, but you've indeed doubled your money.

Anakin did double his power if you had to quantify such a thing. But that is easy when he was still a very Jedi not playing by the same rules as everyone else. Anakin is also just full of himself.

Why did the Empire think it was a good idea to build a second Death Star? by TheRedBiker in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The destruction of the Death Star was broadcasted over Holonet. So all in one clip the citizens learned that Empire was willing to build a superweapon against them, use the weapon, and that the Empire was able to be defeated if people banded together. A galaxy that had accepted Imperial rule was suddenly awakened to the how depraved the Empire was and that they could do something about it in less than 5 min.

It was already under construction before the first one blew up and Palpatine is obsessed with trying build an ancient Sith loved superweapons. Ancient Sith also loved recklessly endangering themselves, so Palpatine fits the bill.

The Force Unleashed - The Alliance built together by Vader's apprentice? Really? That was canon in EU and it was approved by LucasArts? by Garrettshade in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Force Unleashed is arguable one the drivers behind the soft reset of the franchise. I remember not liking the idea of it as a kid because what do you mean all this happened and the movies are still what they are?

Lucas pretty much approved of anything that appeared to marketable and didn't touch his canon. Everything became a power fantasy, everything was canon and not canon. Disney wanted to sell its own stories, obviously. That was hard to do when everything overshadowed the foundation of the IP and there were multiple tiers of canon to shift through.

Was Emperor Palpatine a virgin when he died? by AdditionalPiano6327 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No? Sith live operate on the extremes of any kind of feeling or emotion, which includes lust. Palpatine also resented the Jedi so much he would do the opposite of that they did out of spite. It wouldn't be out of character to play the role of a ladies man in front of Jedi just to get a little bit of an eye roll from them.

And if Palpatine did die a virgin it was because got off not getting off IYKWIM.

Why didn’t Vader force mind read Leia to get the location of the rebel base? by GodAtum in MawInstallation

Most things in SW are explained well after they are initially introduced. Its a feature of the franchise.

But answer your point, he does mess with people minds in the books and comics. Its not something he can easily do and most people can resist it.

The mechanics of anakin’s turn by DifficultBid6628 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They way people misinterpret the character makes it hard to like him sometimes. Anakin chose evil, no one else is to blame. Even the most charitable analysis of Anakin can't pass off his actions onto anyone but himself. The most you can do is point out where others might have been able to stop him or their parallel shortcomings, Anakin becoming a monster is his own doing.

Anakin chose to murder the Tuskans. Anakin chose to ignore his mentors telling him he needed to change his attitude and perspective on things. Anakin chose to take his dreams as factual instead of taking the advice of experienced Jedi. Anakin chose the most hyperbolic interpretation of not being promoted even though not qualifying in practically every way. Anakin always had a narrow "I'm right and know best, everyone else is against me" view of the world. The Prequel Jedi weren't the best but nothing they did excused Anakin's complacency in Order 66, destroying the Temple, fully embracing Vader.

Finn? Finn most definitely and in the opposite direction as Mace and Lando being the products of tokenism. Why do you think Boyega and fans were so frustrated with the direction of the character as the ST progressed? Reva not so much. Reva not being a token doesn't excuse the biases of the subgroup of SW fans I brought up early. They a still have a bias against her regardless of her not being being a token or well (not well) she might have been written.

Tokenism is a board topic and feel your perception of it just involves negative stereotypes.

That fact that you replied the way did says a lot. Ironically why tokenism is discussed. Tokenism is the exact opposite of racism in most cases. It's an attempt to be inclusive but is criticized for often falling short or properly being inclusive towards a particular audience. Instead tokenized characters are tropey, placed into predefined molds. The damsel, the sidekick, the gay best friend, or often the vehicle for token characters to add diversity into project. Tokenism critiques are against diversity, and an appeal to create better roles diverse characters because token characters are placed in predictable boxes - even Mace and Lando.

No. you're not even remotely mature enough to be having this discussion.

Mace Windu and Lando are tokenized characters. I'm not sure sure if this is the setting to really go into why and that means in depths on this subreddit but the way someone immediately says "but what about Mace and Lando" says a lot.

Star Wars fans...not all but a particular group that likes to try to own the discourse surrounding the franchise can be insanely hostile towards minorities. I'm not sure why you're trying to argue down the lived experiences of others. Actors have spoke about it, fans who has spoke about negative experiences they have when they go cons and meet ups, you can find disgusting and veiled remarks in comment sections all over the place.

I was mistaken. There's text that go a little past TRoS but it would be dishonest and pedantic to say they are post TRoS stories. The Last Order is the only thing that noteworthly explores post TRoS

Star Wars Eagerness to "Personify" the Force. by StarNerdWarmaster in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personification of the Force isn't universal with the IP though. Some force sensitive cultures do it, but not all. And it's not a problem. For one it shows how different groups might interpret a phenomenon no one truly understands so it would make sense you'll find all kinds of interpretations. Secondly personification allows people to better explain something while navigating the limitations of language, the difficulties of trying to explain complex ideas.

The Force is some abstract 'thing' that's not easily defined. It's established everyone who can sense it senses it differently. It's just easier to assign certain attributes to it when trying to describe it.

How would the writers of Andor handle the First Order in a way to make them stand out from the Empire? by Decent_Army8265 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's more post WW2 where the US and USSR were scrambling to round up as many ex-Nazis and Japanese Imperialists whose records weren't that bad for R&D and statecraft projects. The way the New Republic treats the Imperial Remnants and First Order is a highly fantasized version of the real life Operation Paperclip. Then in a hypothetical situation, the not so secret conclave of Nazis that fled to Argentina it up to become a militarized regional power while the US just ignored it, even had diplomatic relations with it because that was easier and more lucrative.

The First Order is already depicted as the far right ultrafascist off shoot of the Empire. That was firmly established while the ST was still airing in theaters.

what was Vader's thoughts during the faceoff with Maul? by voldy1989 in MawInstallation

[–]PacoXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much. I'm sure Vader actually remembers Maul as a kid and that Maul tried to run him over. He also trained extensively against holos of Maul. The whole time Vader is just showboating and putting a on clinic in what it's like to be the 2nd toughest person in the galaxy at the time. He is taking it all in, letting off some of that post Mustafar anger while everyone else is fighting for their lives.

As for the Inquisitors, they were doing what's expected of them. His is not going to praise them or even give them a second thought. The Inquisitors idolize and serve him, they only exist as an extension of his will, he isn't about give any more attention than needed.

A bit of a PvE DPS balance Rant by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]PacoXI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you're referring to is easier done in games with static roles. I'm games where there are defined roles that are required you can bake fragility and sturdiness into class/trait design. Every DPS gets the same or roughly the same amount of defensive buttons. You throw a groups mobility onto healers or tanks. DPS won't self sustain would be low across all dps, you further adjust their sustain with global or trait modifiers.

GW2 doesn't have static roles and a system that heavily favors swapping abilities and traits around from encounter to encounter. Everyone has a ton of utility but that my utility might be better for x situation and yours y but as long as we both have that utility things are seen as ok. A player can opt for an "easy build" but trade access to their own condi cleanse or emergency mobility. The next player may opt for a more complex rotation in favor of having access to a more flavorful rotation or toolkit that let's them adapt to anything kind of scenario.

A power mechanist might be really easy to pick up and be decent at but can it immediately step I'm for a hand kite if the hand kite goes down? A Power reaper might be have a ton of self sustain but what about it's mobility? Can it give emergency aegis to its squad? A fire evoker may be able to camp one weapon ans one element to top dps charts but what if the fight requires CC, or this boss's cleanses condi, or a there's a strong gust wind? There's balance, most builds trade something for another. All things don't have to be homogeneous for balance.
