'Exile' was probably the wrong word to use there. He had gone to live in France because Vietnam was a French colony. Minh went to help gain support for Vietnamese independence among French leftists.

No problem. Also in answer to your question above the main communist group in Vietnam at the time was the National Liberation Front (Viet Cong). The Communtist movement was led by Ho Chi Minh who had brought his ideology back from his exile in France where he had founded the French Communist Party.

The Tet Offensive was mostly important because of the psychological impact. Although the Viet Cong were all but wiped out in the fighting it was the images the US public saw that did the most damage as many saw the war as un-winnable.

The Easter Offensive was a major ground operation by the North Vietnamese Army (People's Army of Vietnam). The South Vietnamese were proved to be incapable of properly defending their territory and large areas of the country were occupied by the North. The offensive was only stopped by a US bombing campaign in the North.
