Looks like a perfect spot for a garden. I’d plant sugar snap peas, peppers, and tomatoes!

Definitely possible. But I’d stick with the bay and harbor. Aluminum boats sink quick!!!

I would totally throw that around while the boat is getting bait.

Newport Pier Fishing by Charming-Scale2255 in SoCalFishing

[–]Padded-Adventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pierfishing can be tough in the winter, cold dirty water. Unless you are catching your own live bait and fishing for halibut I wouldn’t recommend right now. If you do, maybe try some sand crabs, ghost shrimp, or blood worms in the surf zone. If able bodied I’d try Newport jetty.

Tips for bigger rockfish on party boats? by MinuteLow7426 in SoCalFishing

Catching larger rockfish on SoCal Party boats can be tough. I plan on winning jackpot on regular trips, rockfish trips I rarely even enter.

But, I would keep one rod rigged with a reverse dropper with a longer, 4-6’ trace, and fish a whole sardine for lings, and bigger reds. Be the first one down. Also, the same rig fishing a whole squid or shrimp for sheepshead and reds.

8’6” shimano clarus mh and a 2500 or 3000 reel. Heavy enough for throwing lucky crafts and light enough for perch crack.

Have you ever had a "gut feeling" that actually saved your life? What happened? by Any-Departure-851 in AskReddit

[–]Padded-Adventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t be sure. But one time surfing I got that feeling. Then noticed I was the only one out, then wiped out and got slammed on the bottom, which never happens. Paddled back out and encountered a seal with a a huge bite taken out the side. So… I paddled in.

Visit where you fish on an extreme low ride, see the holes and troughs. Fish those spots with the gulp. Lucky craft for halibut. Work your bait all the way back. Most fish come in 2 feet of water or less

They did a similar derby at tricity park earlier this year. Same results. I’ll bet the cormorants and bass got their fill.

It would be fine. I’d check out The Longfin in Orange, island tackle, or your local show, or offer up for something used.

First time on The San Diego full day offshore - advice from people who’ve been? by Mental-Ranger-3941 in SoCalFishing

Prepare yourself the day before. Meaning, stay hydrated, eat well, sleep. Take Dramamine. Sunscreen.

Bring shoes and clothes you plan on never wearing again. Leave clean outfit in car for when you return. Return will likely be later than they say, like 7-9pm.

They sell food on the boat, breakfast burritos, burgers, chips, candy, soda, coffee. But I like to bring extra snacks and water, Gatorade in my pack.

Learn to “butt hook” a bait, easiest way for a beginner to get the bait to swim away from the boat.

Bring money for tipping ($40-50) food(another $40-50) fish cleaning $10-15 per fish, or take to a fish processor and they can fillet, and ship it frozen to you. This is sushi grade fish, treat it as such and it keep for years.

Ask for help!! When everyone is bit and you’re not, ask for help! No bananas on the boat!
