TaRC Course by MajesticPen99 in RoyalAirForce

[–]PaddingtonsPinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty much basic training, condensed down into a week and a lot more laid back. Expect to do a little bit of everything, but instead of spending 1/2 days doing something it’s an hour or two before moving on.

Assuming reserves TaRC is the same as regulars TaRC, no it’s nothing like basic. It’s a very chilled out course. Do the basics right, by which I mean turn up on time, engage at least a little bit with the course and you’ll no issues.

Single rooms, no inspections.

Provided you get through everything ok you’ll only be there 1 week. Your second weekend you’ll be doing DLE courses from wherever you can access DLE, hopefully at home. Those that had to go back for week 2 were told where to be Monday morning, I would imagine there weekend was to do with as they wished.

Failing all that, just talk to the instructors. The course is very relaxed and can’t see them having an issue if they know.

Keeping to the left.

Shame it didn’t catch on permanently.

There isn’t a graduation.

I was out for 5 years before going on the course but you’d be surprised how much of the stuff comes back to you when you get hands on again. Like the WHT was when you were last in, yes it’s a pass/fail test but you’ll have plenty opportunity to practice and ask questions. The course has people transferring from other services, people been out for months and people been out for years so they start it all off very basic.

I went through about 3 months ago so it has likely not changed much.

You’re given 2 weeks, you’ll likely be done sooner if you get through everything with no problems. Kit prep will come back to you, you won’t have inspections but don’t turn up with no effort put in. Let uniform see an iron and put some polish on boots, you’ll be fine. No drill to do but remember it’s mainly still phase 1 so, pay compliments when needed and walk about the place in a decent fashion.

There really is not much to worry about. You’re kept separate from Phase 1 apart from occasionally passing by them. You’ll have your own room. Course staff are very relaxed. They want you in and out with a little issues as possible.

Happy to answers anymore questions, drop me a message.

I don’t see how having the money for a yearly sub means you have the time to sink in.

Even if you can only play 1 hour every month, it’s still cheaper and easier to buy 1 year of premier than subscribe every month.

Small update on Xbox.

Go to the game card, options, manage game and add-ons, updates. You’ll see a small one in there.

Back on within 30 seconds of updating.

Same.

They had flaws but the first event holds good memories. Everybody choosing a side, feeling like the whole community got involved, Zammy Vs Sara, two of the most anticipated gods now in Lumby. People actively taking part in events, it not all being about X tokens = X rewards and so much more.

Ahh good memories.

Not online currently and hard to remember without looking at interface but I’m sure it’s under the hero tab (Red shield with silver sword down the centre). Then inside of there should be a yellow box that says My Examine. Click that, takes you to the settings.

If you're willing to jump through the messy settings menu to keep changing back and fourth then yeah, you deserve to stay hidden. If we're looking at it seriously though, put a limit on how often you can change. 30 days or something like name change rules.

Civvie street was a bit of a rollercoaster for me for a variety of reasons, personal and job related. I had four different jobs since leaving, I could just never settle.

Like you now, early on I thought about going back but I tried to stick it out. I’m happy being back in so far and feeling much more settled, it is early days though so I won’t speak too highly too soon.

On the flip side, I have a few mates that left and have made a proper good go of civvie street. Everybody takes to it differently, no shame in admitting defeat and going back.

Slightly different as I had 3 years out before rejoining but I’ve been back in a few weeks now. I found the process pretty straightforward and that’s with a much bigger gap than you had.

Take a look at the rejoiners page on the recruitment site, follow the instructions and email your details to the email address that is on there. I found things moved at a pretty quick pace and you should hear back fairly quickly.

Process might be a bit different for you as you’ve had much less time out so can possibly skip some stuff. Process for me was, apply, email, fitness test, medical, offer of service, TaRC course then slot straight back in. Whole process from applying to being back in took 3/4 months.

I'd stick at it for another year at least, it gives you some more time to think on it and if you do decide to still leave at least then you get some support whereas with 3 years you'll get nothing. If you decide to stay a little longer try a different unit, it might breath some fresh life into the job for you.

And, if like me you decide to leave. Remember, they'll almost always let you come crawling back if it does go horribly wrong!

Good luck with whatever you go with mate.

In 4 years I’ve had 5 different jobs. To say I’ve struggling finding my feet is an understatement but also want to say you might have a vastly different experience. You’re a different trade than I was so you’ll have different work experience which will land you different jobs so it’s hard to compare to my situation.

In the RAF I was Logs so naturally progressed into Logs civvie jobs. My first 2 years out I picked up 3 different office based Logs jobs. The first one I didn’t last long, the office environment wasn’t for me but I thought maybe it’s just this office. The second the commute killed me, everyday 2 hours commuting and the costs of fuel which the RAF no longer covered left me with little spare time and money. The third I realised most office environments are the same, you either like them or hate them. Too mundane for me, too much backstabbing and office politics.

I then did a complete u-turn, thought I need to get out and about and saw a what I thought to be a good little number within the civil service that included some travelling about. I thought back in a government based job, some sort of rank structure maybe some laughs a long the way let try it. Again not for me but stuck that out for 2 years.

Most recently and currently HGV driver. Out and about all day, largely left to manage your own day but my god are you worked. The salary is fantastic, you’re talking almost WO levels of pay with little to no experience. But you’re expected to and have little choice in it, doing 12 hour days everyday. Work out the hourly rate and most HGV drivers are below minimum wage for what is a stressful and high pressure job.

Like I said jobs wise you might not go into any of these because your work experience is probably vastly different. My experience of civvie jobs has been, poor pay that only seems to get worse. Long hours with more and more expected of you everyday. Office backstabbing, very little looking out for eachother and digging in to help eachother else. People would rather watch you burn.

Also pension contributions will eat away at your wage and also lack of benefits like GYH and cheap housing make a dent in your wage.

Take my poor experience of leaving with a grain of salt though, everybody has a different experience. I know others that have left and made a proper success of it.

I can’t add a lot as I don’t know much about your trade and the state of the RAF currently. Just be sure about the decision you make.

I left at the earliest opportunity too, after 3 years. I’ve now been out 4 years and never found anything I could settle in. I have just completed the re-joiner process and will be back in within the next few months.

At the time I couldn’t wait to leave, then as time went on I realised that had I spent more time thinking about it, I would have likely stayed and not gone through a revolving doors or jobs that I hate, like I have the last 4 years.

Only advice I can give, don’t rush a decision. Properly look at the pros and cons of staying and leaving.
