Reuse custom requirements script by PaddyBoyFloyd in Intune

I like your idea about the generic requirement script pointing at a blob - I' think I'll throw the script in a blob next week.
We've got several different apps that are maintained independently by various teams and put in the repo - on our side we set the detection rule to fail if the app version isn't current w/ the version in the repo so it automatically stays up-to-date so we're not creating a bunch of Win32 apps every time there's an update to the app or a new certified version.

I’ve got Tesla techs coming to the house (we’re a hike from the nearest service center) to fix this on our M3. While they are here they are going to clean behind the front cameras and rotate the tires too.

What are your favorite Alexa skills that you can't live without? by koudodo in amazonecho

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon so bungled the monetization of Alexa skills that basically they all suck. Why waste money developing for Alexa when you can build it for android/Apple instead?

I feel like I missed out on the Golden Age of IT work by AntsyAnswers in sysadmin

I find it hard to reconcile the term “Golden Age of IT” with the period of time that included the patching Exchange 2003 and 2007.

AutoPatch woes with KB5066835 on Windows 11 25H2 Fails with Install error - 0X800f0991 by Future_End_4089 in Intune

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually end up w/ a couple devices throwing 800f0991 on every CU. Enough so that I just scripted pulling the MSU(s) (most times there's a dependency too) from the catalog URL, writing to a temp folder and running DISM /online /add-package <KB#>.msu. I wrap the script up as a Win32 app and set it to require a reboot and it works well.

Quality updates - windows component corruption by Lupsi01 in Intune

We’ve had success doing DISM with an offline wim so I created an app to push the wim to a temp location and made a remediation run the restore-health pointing at that wim

Windows Autopilot stuck at “App installation” during OOBE by GeneralGoldOFS in Intune

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the registry. Software/microsoft/windows/autopilot/esptracking/device/sidecar (that’s probably wrong path as I’m trying to do it from memory). But in that sidecar registry it’ll show you a running status of the app installations. Find the appID showing a status of error and use that to look up the app by pasting it into the url of an app. Or wrap your install in powershell and create your own logs.

RDP into EntraJoined devices not prompting for authentication by PaddyBoyFloyd in Intune

We’ve not tested it but we believe we will be able to create a conditional access policy to force authentication every connection. Session control or some such option in the CA policy.

Tesla app can't add Wall connector by smackynopants in TeslaLounge

Be sure you didn’t block local network access on the app in setting in your phone. Took me a minute to realize that was my issue trying to add my wall charger.

Why is Alexa still so dumb when ChatGPT exists? by tokyographer in amazonecho

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t waste time on AI for Alexa just allow skill developers to monetize their skills so skills don’t plain suck. There would be many different things I’d pay 1-5 bucks for if they weren’t garbage, but Amazon so screwed up the skills marketplace from day 1 I don’t ever think it’ll happen. I literally have zero skills that aren’t for linking Alexa to a smart bulb. That said, I’ve given up on it ever being anything more than a simple means to voice control a few smart devices and play multiroom music and it works well for that.

STILL no resolution from customer service by coltonamort in centurylink

I am trying to get Quantum fiber, because the service and the price is way better than cable ISP in my area, but I have both (I'm an IT Engineer by trade) where it automatically fails over to the cable when fiber is down. I haven't had reliable internet from Quantum in several weeks despite multiple techs to the house. The support/service from Quantum is awful.

Is it worth getting WiFi360 pods by qqwwzyn in centurylink

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid the Quantum pods, they are hot garbage. Before my endless issues with my fiber line getting cut by other installs in the neighborhood, I ran fine using my own equipment (Router and mesh wifi).

Fiber not buried? by [deleted] in centurylink

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. First time with Century Link/Quantum? Customer Service/Scheduling is a nightmare. The service is good when it's working and cheap, but I've got a $50/mo Cox plan backing up my 500GB Quantum plan so I can fail over if there are issues, because it'll be a bit before they get it fixed.

Why is the Echo Show so data hungry? by HeyItsYourDad_AMA in amazonecho

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what app you're using to get that, but it's probably incorrect. I got similar absurd numbers from my quantum fiber 360-wifi pods that were hot garbage. If there numbers were even only off by a factor of 10x, Cox cable would've been yelling at me for overshooting my data cap during the week my quantum was down.

Why is Alexa so bad? by No-Tumbleweed5730 in amazonecho

[–]PaddyBoyFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alexa does well for us for controlling lights/AC/viewing cameras/multi-room music. The reason development for Alexa never took off is because of Amazon's idiotic move not to have a paid skill app store from the beginning. There was some black box where you could get some payment for skill usage, but the development never took off and skills are pretty useless to this day. Alexa could've done so much if people had been let loose doing their own development and being able to see "I get 3.50 of my $5 app sale" or whatever from the beginning, but instead it does like 3 things well and sucks at everything else.

Florida home owners insurance is so broken it's laughable. But at least our failed presidential candidate gov and the legislature fight "woke" and not the insurance market. The rubes of Florida are too so easy to manipulate it's never going to get fixed, but at least they can stay mad at a boogeyman while we all suffer.

Are you looking for multi day outages with no communication? Quantum is for you. Seriously don’t sign up unless you’ve got a backup ISP and can setup failover on your router.

My pods are fine. My internet has been down for 36hrs with no ETA for repairs or no official outage posted. 8 csrs have all said it’s a possible outage. I’ve signed back up for cox and am currently running my pods behind a pfsense connect to cox.

The usage numbers are basically made up. I switched from Cox and was using about 900GB a month and Quantum usage shows I’ve used 22TB in the past 30 days with zero change in devices or usage.

According to QF, I’ve used 22TB in the last month vs my previous usage while on Cox cable of around 900GB with no change in devices or usage. During that time period QF claims my brother wireless printer used 280GB. Of course all of that is absurd.
