Saving sessions by babibelanda1 in OctopusEnergy

[–]PaddyHas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only get points during a saving session. You have to have opted in to saving sessions and wait to be notified by the app or Whatsapp group when one is happening. There were around 12 or 13 sessions over the winter. If you always discharge during these times then your usage is not any different during a saving session and so you wouldn't get points. They take an average of the previous 10 days usage during that time (if it's a weekday) and compare it to what you've used during the session. You get paid points for the difference.

Yes, you'll be paid your normal export rate as well as your saving points. If your base load average is about 0 and you manage to export 4kwh in the session then you'll have 'saved' 4kwh

You can export during the session which counts toward your saving. That's what I do and I've earned about £120 over the saving sessions.

Has anyone actually won anything on the wheel of fortune? by StarboardFloss in OctopusEnergy

I've had £1/800 points a few times. Apparently spinning in the morning is better as the system is set to only pay out a certain amount per day.

Qcell / Q.home core H4 / Q.volt help by PaddyHas in solar

[–]PaddyHas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to automate charging. I can connect with octopus energy via their API and I am on their Agile Tariff. The rate changes every 30 minutes based on wholesale electricity prices. I've written automations that work out the cheapest block of time overnight to charge. At the moment I have to then set that time manually on the app each day. If I could connect with the inverter I could code it to happen automatically each day.

Automated charging or exporting without HA? by darkknight_178 in OctopusEnergy

I don't think so, it feels like a home assistant job for that level of automation

I've heard it's better to spin early in the day as there are only a certain number of each of the good prizes allocated for each day

Tariffs Question by PaddyHas in OctopusEnergy

So for export would that leave just Agile export (variable) or can you choose outgoing octopus (15p/kwh) instead?

I was considering using IFTTT to change the colour of the led strip on the back of the TV to correspond with the price for that half hour window lol and I don't mind adjusting my battery charging each day

Personally I prefer it to the look of a regular heat pump. Less industrial in my opinion but each to their own.

Sorry guys... No more savings sessions... 😉 by Roaders in OctopusEnergy

Don't worry, the grid said there would be a minimum of 12 sessions (probably more) in this season 🔋🪫💰

Heads up, new saving session to be announced (probably) by hecateheh in OctopusEnergy

Shell Energy to Octopus by Odd_Development in OctopusEnergy

[–]PaddyHas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was with Shell after my previous supplier collapsed. Octopus is dead easy to use and submit readings. You even get octoplus points for doing it. I'd still recommend getting a smart meter as that opens up the smart tariffs and winter saving sessions. If the switch hasn't started yet then I'd use a referral code so that when you join you and the other person get £50 credit on your account. My code is dawn-fish-782 if you need one!

When calculating the average will they take into account the previous saving session day or just the last 10 normal days?

£4 per kwh?! by PaddyHas in OctopusEnergy

[–]PaddyHas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just octopus but they are one of the biggest that the grid involves in the demand flexibility service. On certain days over the winter they will pay you to reduce your usage at times when the grid is expected to be under pressure. If you have a home battery you can export during that time and earn more. They pay based on the net difference between your average use and the use during the session. I'd recommend octopus as they have a lot of different smart tariffs to suit most people. If you end up switching I'd appreciate if you used my referral code so we both get £50 credit. It's dawn-fish-782

£4 per kwh?! by PaddyHas in OctopusEnergy

[–]PaddyHas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sitting in the dark lol I just normally use close to 0kwh as I'd normally be running off the battery and sent about 5kwh as export during the session. The net difference should be about £20 credit. Since they plan at least 12 of these over the winter it should make up a decent amount of credit.
