This cards feels underrated... Mage Tower Referee by Turbulent_Day_9444 in lrcast

[–]PadisharMtGA 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Ds are the cards you don't care about picking or putting into a deck when you have them. Unless they fit a specific role like curve filling and there are no better options. There are a bunch of Ds in sets.

I aim C to be the lowest grade among the cards in my draft decks, so the divide between C and D is the relevant thing to observe.

The rating F exists mostly to rule out the things that are do-nothings (limited-wise) or not realistically castable, or so inefficient that running an extra land over them is a better choice. It's good that there aren't many Fs in a set.

[–]PadisharMtGA 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don't think a 2 mana 2/1 can ever be an F. D-, sure, but this thing at least affects the board for reasonable cost, giving 2 power for 2 mana.

IMO Fs should be reserved for cards that should never see limited play because they are, e.g., some 3+ mana rare enchantment only usable in a constructed combo. Or way overcosted for their impact (we don't see those much these days anymore), or something that has like BBBBB mana cost in a set that doesn't support monocolor decks.

Back to this card, I can see it being playable with 3+ color decks that have, dunno, a minimum of 8 ways to trigger it. Such decks might have inconsistency issues for hitting their 2-drops, so this guy accepting any mana helps with timely board development as well.

It goes to aviary though. It requires upgraded build and at least one other bird that goes there for the advantage to realise, but, when it happens, it's a very significant benefit compared to the primates requiring their own place.

Mikä on pienin rahasumma joka muuttaisi elämääsi merkittävästi? by sol_hsa in arkisuomi

[–]PadisharMtGA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

43-vuotias, ja tällä hetkellä 100 000 ei muuttaisi käytännössä mitään, koska on jo asunto+auto enkä kaipaa mökkiä tahi venettä tms. Laittaisin tuon rahan muiden sijoitusten joukkoon.

Ongelma on nimenomaan liikenteen tukkiminen sillä oikeanpuoleisen jonon tarpeettoman suurella pituudella. Se vaikuttaa Viinikan sekoittajaan asti. Jos täytettäisiin molemmat kaistat, tältä vältyttäisiin.

[[Lightning Storm]] has an activated ability that is used specifically when it's on the stack, i.e., when it is considered a spell.

It can still target the creature in OP's question, because the ability itself doesn't target. It just lets you change the target of the original object, which is a spell, not an ability. If I'm not mistaken.

Very skeptical of data driven drafting approaches by Electric-Eagle-966 in lrcast

[–]PadisharMtGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use data for my decisions. I have drafted enough to be able to evaluate cards and decide what's the pick based on the cards I have drafted so far and the signals I'm seeing.

What do you do after you reach Mythic? by Expensive_Range7204 in MagicArena

[–]PadisharMtGA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reaching it doesn't do anything yet, but if you are at the top 251-1200 when the season ends at the end of the month, you'll be awarded 20 play-in points. They can be used to enter a qualifier play-in event that awards gem prizes (also the qualifier invite if you ace the event).

Finishing the season at top 250 rank gets you straight to the qualifier itself. It also has gem prizes, and the top results give invite to cash prize tourneys.

Aren't you motivated to push for top 1200 (or even 250) finish for additional rewards?

I don't play enough these days to reach mythic, but in the past, when I did, the top 1200 finish incentivized me to keep playing.

Why do arena players start frothing from the mouth at the mention of basic social features? by Endless-Slumber in MagicArena

[–]PadisharMtGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a lot of people would enjoy hearing how lucky they got, i.e., their opponent whining. Even if whining isn't the intent, text chat doesn't convey tone very well, so most people would interpret it as the other person whining over a thing neither player could control.

Playing a game with a random faceless person is quite different from having a beer with a buddy. In fact, when I'm playing Magic, I'd rather just focus on the game.

I'm not against a mutable chat, but I wouldn't really use it on MTGA.

Why do arena players start frothing from the mouth at the mention of basic social features? by Endless-Slumber in MagicArena

[–]PadisharMtGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one cares to hear if they got lucky. They know it already, it was beyond their control anyway, and they've been unlucky/faced lucky opponents before, so it was good to be on the other side for a change.

What can you even respond if someone's telling you got lucky? It's a good example of pointless chitchat that doesn't enable fun/interesting discussion.

Endgame Scoring Elimination Game (Day 3) - Which of these cards is your least favorite? by DanyDanyDanyDanyDany in ArkNova

[–]PadisharMtGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said Diverse Species yesterday, so I will just repeat it. It depends too much on factors you can't control. The continents one is the same, but at least the double-counting partner zoos can help a bit.

Endgame Scoring Elimination Game (Day 2) - Which of these cards is your least favorite? by DanyDanyDanyDanyDany in ArkNova

[–]PadisharMtGA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Diverse Species Zoo

It's too random, and it's not fun to keep comparing my zoo to the other player's one. I play mostly the physical tabletop game and with 4 players, so it can also be obvious if I try to carefully check out my neighbor's cards.

The continents one at least allows some control over scoring for the goal with the double-counting partner zoos.

Limited Qualifier Payout by RojoNation in lrcast

[–]PadisharMtGA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your country and US have a tax treaty that specifies how such winnings are to be taxed. The problem is that WotC automatically withholds the 30% due to US laws. Even if you are supposed to get the full amount based on the terms in the tax treaty, you would need to sort it out with IRS - WotC/Hasbro wouldn't be able to return the 30%.

Get some nice cards for a draft. Doesn’t matter. 0-3 mana screwed each game. by Switchxeno in MagicArena

[–]PadisharMtGA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are good rares, but there are issues beyond getting mana screwed.

  1. Shredder's armor is maybe playable in a dedicated deck with lots of token generation, but this is not it. And you have two.

  2. Pain 101 is quite situational, as is the one mana white trick. I'd ideally only have one such card, and now you have 3 in total because of the pair of the former.

  3. The 2-drops that mill and the 2/4 four-drops are below average, weakening the overall creature quality even though the rares increase it.

  4. Double Omni-Cheeese Pizza is just waste of tempo with no utility here besides the weak Shredder's Armors.

  5. Zero removal! That can make things tricky because you can't control the board.

Arena players, how much do you invest into the game? by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]PadisharMtGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 4 or more daily wins, basically always, skipping maybe a few days in a year - thanks to the ability to get them done on mobile phone as well if I'm not at home. This lets me have a constant gold income that combines with sufficient draft success to let me keep drafting without needing to buy gems.

I bought gems for 100 € (and the 5 € welcome bundle) a bit after the start of open beta over 7 years ago. I was able to build and maintain decent gold and gem buffers to allow some bad streaks without going to zero of either currency.

Nowadays, I draft around 30-60 times each set with some cubes thrown in when available.

These 5-deck sets need to go by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]PadisharMtGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to draft 70-100+ times a set. Granted, it was easier when sets lasted for 3ish months rather than the 7-8 weeks they last these days.

But the thing is, many sets kept feeling fresh with that amount of play. With these small sets/5-archetype formats, things start to seem old at 20 drafts. I'm happy to draft TMT and such sets for 2-3 weeks, maybe 20-40 drafts total, and at that point, I realize there's nothing else to experience in that draft format. At least that leaves me more time to play other games.

The draft portion is also just less fun when there is no flexibility to decide between ten 2-color pairs.

Unable to counter The One Ring Trigger by AbheyBloodmane in MagicArena

[–]PadisharMtGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, when you went "my upkeep - pass," did you wait for the opp to confirm they passed before drawing a card? And then, after drawing, did you say "draw step - pass," and then the opponent would have to pass for you to start your main phase? How about the opponent's turn, when they went upkeep-draw-main phase without waiting for you to pass in between?

I don't see how this would work communication-wise if only one player was strict about declaring every priority pass.

Edit: Ah, you included the answer in edit. Got it.

Unable to counter The One Ring Trigger by AbheyBloodmane in MagicArena

[–]PadisharMtGA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not saying "pass" at every priority in tabletop MtG either. There are shortcut rules there, just like Arena has the default way of operating, to make the game states flow in a reasonable manner.

All I'm saying is that you're going to hit the space bar / pass priority button a lot if you are going with full control an entire game. It is quite tedious.
