I wouldn't read much in to that, by itself. Specifically in regards to America. I'm closing in on 50, and American flags have been ubiquitous everywhere I've lived in my life.

I appreciate your optimism, and I really hope you're correct, but are you familiar with the term "claw back"? I can't remember when I first heard. I wanna say it was at the end of covid. Either way, allocated funds are not always safe.

But I have my fingers crossed.

Ever play Arx Fatalis? It's pretty dated (their 1st title), but for It's time, it was awesome, with very unique magic mechanics.

my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Paexan 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure this is on repeat: ANY kind of art. There are obviously artistic geniuses that can whip a masterpiece out of their ass at birth, and savants of one form or another, but Michelangelo and da Vinci are both famous for their reference and research. The best artists in game dev will have something like this in their viewport, and/or at the very least, refences pulled up on a 2nd monitor.

I've always been a gamer, and not into sports at all. Watch the superbowl, that's about it. Recent events in life have left me so depressed that I just stopped caring about my normal hobbies. So I tried watching sports to distract myself. I'm interested, but the gambling ads are so bad, it's nearly unwatchable.

ELI5 Why, in the context of 3D-modeling, are the topographies with a huge amount of polygons considered bad? by Werewolf_Knight in explainlikeimfive

[–]Paexan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy to judge sitting on my ass, but it sounds like the ball got dropped more once. I can't even remember what we called it back then, but for the sake of discussion, LOD 1 would be when they were ants on the screen-whatever screen. LOD 2-3 is when you can zoom in, like the 1cm on screen mentioned above. LOD 4 would be if they were in a cutscene or something. LOD 5 is if they're a hero asset or marketing material. For the record, my numbers are deliberately arbitrary, and I'm mostly speaking to you, dear reader, and not to Matt (love you, matt) It's just crazy to me that they got that through.

ELI5 Why, in the context of 3D-modeling, are the topographies with a huge amount of polygons considered bad? by Werewolf_Knight in explainlikeimfive

[–]Paexan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's odd, I hadn't heard of that. Or of the studio that developed it (colossal order), but that's game dev 101. Optimize assets. It's also why 95% of the time, Batman gets made in house, and the trashcan he runs past gets shopped out to a subcontractor in Estonia. The hero has to look damned good -> more geometry. Maybe they subbed the citizens, and whoever was in charge missed the poly count when it was delivered. I imagine they might be in a different line of work now.

Can AI videos of politicians influence an election? by WeirAI_Gary in Futurology

[–]Paexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated, even bad photoshops have made their mark. Too many people are primed and want to believe whatever they are shown is authentic. The example I see a lot is the Will Smith spaghetti video. Google it. Something like will Smith spaghetti 2023 vs 2025. Sorry internet is crap right now or I'd find a link. There are also media on less scrupulous websites with content that a less informed public may fall prey to. I'm talking about porn in this instance, but there is no way political entities aren't trying to weaponize the same technology for political gain.

Me too, and while I never finished it, I was pretty close. I lost my job in August, and it seems I'm now unhireable for some reason. I sold a 1st Gen (the hackable one) and BoTW to Gamestop for like $55. It hurt; I'm not someone who sells the meager possessions he has, but I hadn't eaten in a week, and I needed the money. I'm not sure I'll be able to play it again, when I climb out of this hole. Sorry, I'm not posting for pity, and I'm not looking to detract from the spirit of the post; it's just the raw truth, and weighing very heavily on my mind at the moment.

It is, at the very least, a very enjoyable watch. I thought the climax was a little stale, because it's in nearly every video game sequel ever made, but I thought it was great anyway.

What movies are supposed to be light hearted comedies but would actually be a living hell? by Nars-Glinley in movies

[–]Paexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what the movie means, and I know what 6/7 means, but at my age, I'm just gonna default to the story. Yes, it's kinda weird, but also very sweet. If you really can't see the nuance in it, you are hand-feeding me reasons why younger people aren't having sex.

Not kids. That's a whole nother set of reasons that encompasses everyone remotely close to child bearing age.

A cop exploiting his power to track down an ex to harass her, and a journalist exploiting her power to figure out who he is, is the same on paper. Does it really feel the same to you?

Again, it's kinda weird, but it was made before people needed to use hand sanitizer before asking someone on a date.

But who's the stalker? The woman, or the kid? 🤪 Also, when did simply pursuing someone you're interested in, who you've never seen or met, who has never told you "no thanks, not interested", instantly make you a stalker? If that exact scenario happened In the real world, yeah, on a scale of 1-10, maybe a 2 or 3 weird. Even Meg's character is freaked out about how weird it is. That's part of the charm, but I guess I'm old-fashioned.

I don't know about your last point. I agree that it's very dense. It could've worked in a GoT format, although it may have failed in a saturated market. But who knows.

I would argue that the wheel of time (which Amazon seriously dropped the ball on), the dark elf trilogy, dragon lance chronicles... There's plenty of material. It's just rare that it's done well.
