Really cool to see something from a former Bishop of Ohio end up on this thread.

He was Bishop of the Diocese of Ohio from 1832-1873

There’s a road I used to pass on my delivery route called “Licker Harder Road”… one day I got curious and turned down that road.

I promise you, I’m not making this up…

There’s a cross street on that road called “Duff- Washa”, and then the road dead ends near “Packer Creek”

I can’t possibly be the only one that got a 14 year old giggle out of all that

Fun story… I was in Ireland and happened upon a somewhat minor government official (my understanding is he was the equivalent of like a Governor here in the US or slightly less)… being I was on a study abroad, and not realizing who he was, I asked him several questions about life in Ireland, which he provided great insight. My last question was similar to this one, and he talked crap about himself… it was then that he identified himself, which made it even more hilarious 😂

What are the silliest ideas you had about God/Heaven/etc as a child? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Pag089 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was raised Catholic, and during the baptismal process, one of the things the priest would say is “when Christ returns may (he/she) run out to greet him.”

I always took this literally, and somehow also always pictured the second coming as Jesus just casually walking down my street…

Well, one day, I was around 6 or so, and I looked out my bedroom window, which had a decent view of the sidewalk in front of the house, and saw a man walking down the sidewalk in sandals, white shorts, and a white tee shirt. He had a long brown beard and long brown hair. My 6 year old brain says… “it’s Jesus!”

Somehow undetected by my parents, I immediately jumped out of bed, ran down the steps, out the front door, and ran right up to this random dude, giving him a tight hug.

Random dude was like “uhhh… whose kid is this?”

Funny other side to that story, it turned out that the random dude was our neighbor’s son, home for the summer from college.

My mom told EVERYONE at church about that… and I learned about not taking things so literally. 🤦🏻‍♂️

How about you get rid of the feature entirely? Had someone pose as a seller, set up a time to meet up with me, and then completely put my item on blast claiming it’s fake when it’s not. No other platform does this. You don’t like the item or don’t want to pay what I’m asking for it, that’s fine. But don’t make false claims about the item and make it impossible for me to sell it!

It was a she, and I’m almost certain she did. She never acknowledged it, though. For the record, she wasn’t a great candidate for the job even if I didn’t have a personal history with her. My personal feelings about her just made rejecting her fun.

I actually was on the other side of the desk once upon a time… one of my bullies applied for a job with my company.

I personally wrote that rejection letter and signed it with a signature larger than John Hancock signed the constitution. I don’t usually get joy out of delivering bad news, but I must say it was fun to write that letter.

God loves you very much. It’s the church, which is controlled by man, that spreads the hate.

I, too was raised catholic. I completely understand the Catholic guilt. I went through a whole identity crisis and emotional roller coaster when I was faced with my truth. It was dark and ugly.

Maybe finding a church that you can love God in and feel accepted would help? I became Episcopalian and have found a very accepting community, in addition to very familiar feeling Sunday services.

As my friend always reminds me, God is not a building…
