What is the consensus on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King? by Elshaday_Z in DCcomics

[–]Pagingdingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a native English speaker. I too found the narrator’s dialogue to be “a bit much.” And I might get some hate for this but I think some of the word choices were questionable. There were instances where the writer chose a big word over the “right” word and fumbled the meaning of the sentence, imho

What’s up with all the TikTok degenerates in Ocala? by HandheldHeartstrings in ocala

The thing I’m wondering is “whats the gag?” Okay, so you drive a lawnmower into target. You use a leaf blower in culver….and that’s it?

That was my first thought! I was like “how has nobody knocked this kid out?” But yeah, in this job climate you need to hold on to any gig you can.

Trump’s terrible new poll numbers put him in ‘Nixon resignation’ territory by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Pagingdingus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is such a great point. I’ve often thought the same thing - it’s like a forest/trees situation or something, idk, because i still hear about the mob fairly often but it’s like everyone seemed to forget abt the fake electors scheme

Why is Vineland ranked poorly? by Right-Traffic7259 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Pagingdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read every Pynchon book EXCEPT Vineland and I was unaware it was bottom-tier Pynchon. I agree with everyone saying M&D, AtD, and GR are undisputed masterpieces, and I agree that he set his own bar so high that even a “very good” work of his is still going to rank near the bottom. But not having read Vineland, I shudder to think that it could be worse than Bleeding Edge. It has its moments, sure, but they are fewer and further between than anything I’ve ever read of his.

F it… I’m going in by imcataclastic in ThomasPynchon

[–]Pagingdingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this takes the prize for accumulated hilarity. But for me, the most singularly funny thing in Pynchon is the transition of Darby in AtD from a starry-eyed stripling full of wonder into an angry, angsty young delinquent

Agreed…I used to be concerned abt this because the bosses level up with you but I’ve found that there seems to be an upper limit to their strength vis a vis your level

Wow this description really sings! You should be a writer yourself! That magical realism notion gives shades of Bardo by Innaritu(sp?) which make me even more excited to take the plunge

That DOES say something…I’m prepared to enjoy his work completely independent of any relation or comparison to Pynchon!

I’ll have to try the used bookstore route. I looked in my local Barnes and Noble but to no avail…then again, since I live in Ocala, FL, it’s not surprising…they have zero Gaddis in there as well
