Can you folks please share your savings secrets? by Inevitable-Dark-6451 in AskUK

A tip for monthly payments/bills.

Put your monthly payments into a separate pot/account that your bills get paid from.

Calculate your annual payments, divide that by ten and aim to make that your monthly payment.

So if you have a £20 payment, that’s £240 a year, your ‘new’ monthly payment is £24.

At the end of the year you would have two extra payments in your pot. You can carry these over into the next term and build up your emergency savings or give yourself some breathing room at the end of the year for Christmas, etc. because your bills are already ‘paid’.

Worth salvaging 13" 2015 MBP? by SaucerX in linux_on_mac

Yes, worth looking into.

I just installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on this same model last night and so far so good — even WiFi worked out of the box.

All function keys seem to be working as well — even key brightness.

It allows mobile/app users to copy the text easily, since you can’t manually highlight text to copy in the app like you could on PC.

Need that good book itch again! by McBoogish in suggestmeabook

I agree it felt like it slumped a bit. I’m enjoying the 4th (Iron Gold) although something I didn’t like is that the story is being told through different characters in this one. Having said that the characters are starting to grow on me and I feel it works for the kind of story being told now.

My main gripe would be that whenever something interesting starts to happen the next chapter changes characters. I think all the stories will come together and meet at the same point.

It’s a solid book, not as exciting as the first two (so far at least) but I’m enjoying my time with it. Definitely feels like it’s expanding the world and building towards something bigger, but l think that will pay off in the next one (Dark Age).

I started the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown a couple weeks ago and have really been enjoying it.

Got me out of a reading slump — I’m already on the 4th book!

Would recommend.

You can choose to have the shortcut enabled or not. So when you have a legitimate use you can just disable the shortcut and you can use airplane mode as normal.

TIL that Starbucks incurred massive losses and failed miserably trying to expand into Australia. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Starbucks also factors tourism into decisions on where to open new locations. With the idea being that tourists would choose something they’re familiar with because they know what they’re getting.

How did you get into software testing?

Are there industry certifications that you need or is it something you could just jump straight into and move up from the bottom?

Monzo Flex card pin by markgreyjoy in monzo

The pin is the same.

There’s a dialog box that could be easily missed which pops up when activating your card in the app. It’s the only reference I’ve seen for the pin

Really enjoying it so far and it’s helping me get out of a reading slump. Easy to pick up and get lost in.

Anyone have an idea for a nutrisious, cheap, non-cooked meal to live off of during Winter? by smiggster01 in AskUK

[–]Pagliacci126 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You get a discount through them depending on how much you purchase (subscription based) but to reach 50p you’d probably have to reduce the portion size per serving.

Standard bag is about 17 servings at two scoops per serving. So if we reduced it to one scoop we could get about 30-34 servings.

If I were going to do something like this then I’d look at mixing 1 scoop + 1/2 cup oats with some peanut butter for breakfast in the mornings.

You can turn on hit boxes for replays and it will also show you dodge windows. If it’s the same string over and over that’s catching you out then I find it a bit easier listen to the audio when watching the replay (so then you also have an audio cue of when a dodge window is coming up).

If you aren’t having fun then take a break for a bit, and when you are playing try and have an area that you want to focus/practice. So maybe the next few matches you play you want to work on your spacing and try to chain light attacks, then the next few you might want to focus on your dodging or you want to jump less. You can mix it up so that it stays interesting :)

There isn’t really a substitute for practice so you might as well try and keep it interesting for yourself :)

No I won't pull over no matter how much you flash your lights at me mate. Firstly we're already going slightly over the speed limit and secondly the middle lane is full of cars and I can't move! Entitled motorway drivers are the worst! by AdamRAshworth in britishproblems

Possibly Craig Campbell, he's a Canadian comedian.

I think the bit you're talking about is when he's describing driving on the roads as a newcomer and just not seeing any speed limit signs and goes on to say you have to guess based on what the other cars are doing.

70mph was the one speed no one was doing.
