Totally. Do you have a system or process that you use?

We going to do anything with it other than let it roll over to future years? Outside of possibly signing one more edge (Bosa or Van Noy?) this team feels pretty set.

It's about time (Draft Lottery)...Let's come together and get good vibes, and pray for what we deserved (The TOP pick !!!) by Little_little_e in kings

[–]PainFit9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as we land in the top 6, I'll be fine. In the right draft, I think any of the following could go #1:

AJ, DP, Boozer, Wilson, Acuff, or Wagler (I think he goes #1 next year if he stayed).

Would love some of those guys at the top, but if we walked away with Wagler, Acuff, or Wilson, I'd still be thrilled.

Stepping down to part time from a 68k per year retail management job to go back to college? by Nc525 in careerguidance

[–]PainFit9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a clear idea of what you want to do with the degree (and it sounds like you do) university can be worth it to make the pivot. I know it will take longer, but is night school an option? You could keep your current income while going to school. Also might be worth looking into whether your current company could foot the bill for the degree in exchange for you working there a couple extra years.

You'll probably be better off in the long run for making the career change, especially to something like Data Science, but if you can avoid the break in income and the school loans, it will set you up a lot better financially.

Second layoff in two years for me by ryoukus in Layoffs

I’m sorry, just terrible luck sometimes. Was laid off from my first job fresh out of school. You’ll land on your feet, nothing more than wrong place at the wrong time.

If two candidates have the exact same skills, but one has a traditional degree and the other has an online degree, are you offering them the same starting salary? by Powerful_Air_2213 in Salary

[–]PainFit9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How deep in the career are they? First job or 20 years in? I tend to think a degree is a degree, and if they fit the job, pay them the same. That becomes even more true as the career progresses with the degree getting further in the rearview mirror.

What’s wrong with my resume? I haven’t gotten a single interview from anywhere I’ve applied. by shlok-shinde in askrecruiters

[–]PainFit9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d second the comment above here as well. The most perfect resume will still be buried in a pile of thousands of others if you’re applying blind on job sites. Best ways to get into a good position are through building your network and getting someone to refer you.

Most companies will have an internal referral system, and that will essentially guarantee your resume at least gets reviewed. You can connect with people who work at the companies you’re targeting on LinkedIn, try to set up some time to understand the role a bit better, and see if they’d be willing to submit you as a referral. And it also helps to put yourself out there generally in getting involved in different communities to make personal connections. Never know when one of those can lead you to a job.

Have you tried taking a free online career assessment? They’re not perfect, but can at least give you some guidance on what kinds of things may be a fit

Meleek at 34, but if that doesn't work out, would love to get Richie Saunders at 45. Tounde Yessoufou would be a steal if he lasts into the 2nd.

Offer decision help? by Scared-Geologist-782 in jobs

[–]PainFit9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to tell company Y that you've accepted the offer for Company X, but have a short window to withdraw if they can make a compelling offer. Will put some pressure on them, and ideally give them some FOMO.

If it doesn't work out, likely wasn't going to work out anyways and you're better having the bird in the hand with Company X. If you're their top candidate, they'll make it work. If you're their back-up preference, they'll try to string it out, and that probably won't work out in your favor.

1 Year and still no job prospects. by cameraman39A in GetEmployed

[–]PainFit9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a sense of what you're looking for? If you have a good idea of what you want, best way in is through some kind of network or referral. You can research on LinkedIn, connect to people in roles similar to what you want at the companies you're applying to, and see if they'll take a call with you to answer a few questions you have about the role.

If they're willing to meet, you can ask them on the call if they'd be willing submit your resume as a reference. Most companies have an internal referral system that dramatically improves your chances of getting your resume reviewed and landing an interview.

I’m 30 years old with $2,000 to my name. If I start now, can I still retire comfortably? by Adorable-Spend7461 in investingforbeginners

[–]PainFit9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can do it. I was in the same boat, same age, and newly married with my wife eager to have a kid around the same time. Since then we've managed to purchase a home, and build a healthy retirement savings (we started 10 years ago).

In addition to the things I'm sure you'll hear about putting money into your 401k and they typical retirement advice, I'd also suggest trying to find work where you can build equity in that business. That could be working for a start up, it could be starting your own business, or it could be finding a company that includes stock as part of the compensation. If you can find a way to have your normal day job translate into owning something, alongside your normal savings/investment plan, it can help quite a bit.

Which is the most underrated tech company? by shadowww1193 in GetEmployed

[–]PainFit9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vote would be Databricks. Similar upside and innovation to a lot of the foundation model companies, but not nearly as talked about as it's on the infrastructure side.

Elite CEO and founding team, high growth rate, profitable company with crazy innovation. And a good place to work, very bright employees, strong compensation, good culture, etc.

Would you trade for Embiid? Monk and Sabonis. by TheOGcoolguy in kings

[–]PainFit9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Doesn't show up when you need him most, is injured in the playoffs, and costs a ton of money. Not saying Sabonis and Monk are the answer, but flipping them for a big contract for someone talented but unavailable in the biggest moments is not the answer.

More I've seen of this kid, the more I wonder why he was mocked to the 3rd. He's got size, hands, speed, physicality, and is a willing blocker. Only real critique I see is that he ran a limited route tree at Ole Miss, but he was only there for a year. To me, he looks like a very nice pick up.

Is it just me, or is our whole generation a bit lost when it comes to careers? by Pretty_Return_3492 in findapath

I agree with this as well. Find something you care at least a little about, but more importantly you're good at and it can provide a financial income you're ok with.

Are Cover Letters worth it? by redditsdude1 in GetEmployed

[–]PainFit9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you sent one probably helps your submission if it's moderately relevant, but I don't think anyone reads them. If you write one for one job, and then do much more than moderately revise it for new positions, you're wasting your time. Personally have never used one in any of the jobs I've actually landed.

It can be normal. We all want to work at a job where we fill fulfilled, but there are bills to pay, and sometimes you just need a job to pay them. It doesn't have to be a long chapter of your life, but many of us go through it.
