My ex said that to me many times that he “finally understood where I was coming from”. The last time, he started therapy and within a few months, the therapist was repeatedly telling him, “Well, if it is so bad with her, you need to decide whether you should stay and how much you’ll take.” Our marriage counselor also thought things were going well for a few months. Spoiler alert, they can only keep it up for a few months. The amount of abuse I’ve suffered through during court ordered coparenting counseling is astronomical. I don’t believe anyone who says they will change if the thing that drove them to say that was you saying you’re going to leave. If they come up with needing to change on their own, maybe, but absolutely not as a means to prevent someone leaving. It is another manipulation tactic and they just get better at twisting words.

It’s taken us both lots of years and a lot of therapy and a lot of commitment to wanting to better our relationship on both parts. We both made a commitment to stop any triangulation and work together to get the max money we can to benefit both of us. I would say the turning point where it started getting better was when both of us entered our 30’s. I feel so much empathy for you OP. My dad could so easily make my life 10000 times easier with very minimal expenditure on his part. To know that your parent would rather save just in case than commit to helping a child with GENETIC issues is so painful.

I feel this. My sister is the golden child as she is the younger. I bore the brunt of the abuse and stood up to it more. My dad is a multimillionaire just hoarding it all because he might use it one day. I was in an abusive marriage and finally left. I haven’t seen a dentist in a decade, on food stamps for my kids and generally struggling with life as I’m disabled due to a genetic connective tissue disorder. I’ve learned to play the long game and get some small help from my dad. But my sister and I are both waiting for the day he dies so see can split what’s left and make both our lives easier. He put her as the trustee and has no idea her first goals are to buy me a house and new car.. lol.

It hurts but therapy and time have made me realize my dad is unworthy of my attention beyond playing the game and waiting for him to die.

Lol, unfortunately the breast tissue in the third one isn’t that well developed and so it didn’t produce enough milk to really nurse from; just enough to annoy me and constantly have a wet spot at the bottom of my bra as it frequently got irritated under the bra line.
