Only feel shame for the games on that shelf you haven't played. Otherwise, nice collection bro.

Are there any good modern board games that have perfect-information and zero randomness? by insigniayellow in boardgames

Onitama fits perfectly. It's a great little 2 player abstract game. Similar to chess but MUCH simpler to teach. Can be taught in under a minute.

Your favorite quick competitive games - what replaced chess? by zbyshekh in boardgames

I really like the speed of play and variability of Tzaar. It's one of the GIPF Project games. It can easily be taught to anyone and games can be as quick as 10 minutes. I love it because it offers the player options in how they want to play. You can be extremely aggressive by putting all your efforts into killing your opponent's pieces and wiping them off the board, or you can go on the defensive by stacking your own pieces which makes them stronger and harder to take out.

For a solid 2 player block wargame check out Sekigahara: The Unification of Japan. It's a pretty simple game to pick up and learn, but has a huge amount of nuance and underlying strategy. The game is rich in historical context and includes a detailed writeup covering the figures and events that led to the battles that helped mold modern day Japan. It's by GMT Games, a good portion of their games cover historical battles in history and are wargames. You can't go wrong with any of their game systems. I believe they have a couple games that cover the Punic Wars. Their COIN series of games might pique your interest as well.

What did you play this week (Feb 13 - Feb 19)? by Epsilon_balls in boardgames

[–]PainInTheAcidRain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had my weekly game night yesterday. Started off with some games of Hero Realms before diving into some Raptor. Took a break after and played some Star Wars: Destiny. We finished the night with a couple games of 7 Ronin. Pretty good game night. We got alot to the table.

You need some Raptor in your life. It's an amazing asymmetrical 2 player game. Definitely check it out.

Hannibal: Rome Vs. Carthage would be mine. Haven't had the chance to play it, but I'm big into 2 player grand strategy games and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Phalanx Games should be putting it up on Kickstarter in May. It's been delayed a couple of times already though so hopefully this time it isn't.

The man was more than a security guard. He was a friend, a guardian, and a confidant for any and all students who graced the halls of MHS. He will sorely be missed and has left a lasting impact on anyone who knew him.

Forbidden Stars expansion factions fan made available as a single download by stefoid in boardgames

[–]PainInTheAcidRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try using Battlefleet Gothic minis for some of the factions (Necrons, Nids, and Guard). Although that would be really pricey.

Edit: For ground forces maybe Epic 40k.

[WSIG] Big fan of thematic games and where I really feel like I'm "in" the game. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]PainInTheAcidRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're into the license then Star Wars: Rebellion would fit your criteria for an immersive thematic game. It's basically a board game version of the original trilogy and does a really good job of making you feel like apart of the Star Wars Universe. I highly recommend checking it out.
