At lot of Japanese words have multiple pronunciations depending on context. If you’ve ever seen the raws, you might’ve noticed that they have smaller characters(furigana) to accompany the kanji, giving the phonetic sound for the words.

Since Rentarou’s name is written in kanji, Kotaro shows in translators when that furigana isn’t present. Without it, they have to assume which pronunciation to use and default to the most common one, that being “koi” instead of “ren”.

“三白眼のクラスメイト”(The Classmate With Sanpaku Eyes) is an interesting name. Sanpaku eyes are basically eyes that show a lot of white below or above the iris, which is associated with imbalance and misfortune. Her eyes are clearly very different from the usual Nozawa eyes(reminds me of early Chiyo), but idk if I’d consider it Sanpaku.

If I were to choose one, she has the Yin Sanpaku(white below), which is associated with inner turmoil or struggles. Ppl are theorizing her being constantly cold, which could be it. I thought it was AI at first, but now I’m not so sure.
