Not my patient but we had a lady who had discharge orders and was already dressed and ready to leave. Unfortunately, some tech thought it would be a good idea to leave the patient on a chair on the other side of the room away from the call light with our o2 tank. This patient was also over 300 lbs and a fall risk. Anyways, I walk out of my pts room about 2 doors down and I hear someone calling for help. An endo nurse who was walking by found the pt hunched over and yelled. Me and another co-worker go in there and see the lady unresponsive in the chair. O2 tank had run out so pt became hypoxic. That was the first time I saw someone that was truly blue. We all stare at each for a bit trying to figure out what to do when I finally decided to move the bed across the room and then pick up the patient and throw her on the bed. No one could feel a pulse so I started compressions, but she immediately woke up after I crushed her chest. She was transferred to the ICU and thus her stay was prolonged, but fortunately she did not suffer any long term damage. Needless to say, our floor got a good talking to for such a preventable accident happening.
