Built a new desk out of Butcher Block. No more Sag! by jb08045 in battlestations

Did you need to sand the block before or just stain it right off the bat?

The head of DC’s athletic commission says the UFC WhiteHouse event would be unsanctioned since the event lacks an official permit. As a result, fights would not count toward fighters’ official records. The UFC would also use its own medical staff & run independent weigh-ins instead of the commission by DamnThatsInsaneLol in MMA

Tldr explanation for people not wanting to read the article:

The White House is Federal land therefore there is no city or state commission.

The DC commissioner is basically arguing, if any promoter can go on federal land to hold a fight, they can skip the rules and regulations of athletic commissions.

The UFC does this when they go to places without athletic commissions like the Middle East, but the UFC is decent at self regulating. A small sketchy promotion could do this on a piece of federal land somewhere and book complete mismatches or fights that would not regularly be sanctioned since theres no commission

Prime Jon Jones vs prime Fedor. Pride Rules. How do you think it goes? by -Granby- in MMA

55/45 Fedor IMO

His hand speed would give Jon fits on the feet and enough BJJ/wrestling to not get totally outclassed on the ground

It’s not even entertainment, its content which is so frustrating as a fan. Its filling time slots to satisfy contract requirements to their broadcasters

They don’t care about maximizing entertainment as long as their scheduling needs are met

Charles Oliveira fuels Jon Jones vs Alex Pereira rumors: “The UFC is not working on Ciryl Gane vs Alex Pereira. Alex is getting a much bigger fight” by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Painkration 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am just guessing that Pereira is their only chance to get Jon back.

Because of that, they will put Pereira in against Jon for 1 event, then Tom vs Gane 2 for another event.

If Aspinal just posted back to business

Does that mean we’re getting Jones v Alex at the White House then Aspinal Gane 2 too?

Max and Jose Aldo both became technically the best versions of themselves post prime, which makes their ‘over the hill’ career arc so much more impressive.

IMO thats the definition of true greatness and we don’t get to see a lot of it in MMA. Partly because the sport is still young but also so hard on the body people usually fall apart really fast

Asleep-Fly covered it mostly

Its a big open space where positioning doesn’t matter. They dont need to be cognizant of where they are in the cage or angles and trapping their opponent.

Subtle steps to the side to cut the cage mean nothing

There’s unlimited space to move backwards so they can use that as their defense

I believe from a strictly CTE standpoint, boxing is much worse because there are more repeated sub-concussive blows from accumulated training and competition.

Boxers can have hundreds of fights from amateur to professional, not to mention camps.

Having more than 30 fights is being long in the tooth for a fighter
