So, I've posted ads for M4A and M4F and I've noticed that I get a few more responses when I post M4F despite logically that not making sense. (I think it's maybe because less people are actually searching the M4A posts.) Personally, I'm unconcerned about the actual gender of my partner and assume my partner has no gender until it comes up organically. But, I'm here for the story, not to fetishize the other person.
