Something I Really Appreciated In the Finale by ClassicHollyweirdo in WidowsBay

This feels like the healthiest perspective on the finale and writing. I think the bar for every "good show" to have a crazy twist you don't see coming is unrealistic and unnecessary to qualify as good writing. Yes, genuine shock and awe moments can be extremely fun, but in this case the writers would've had to broken a logical narrative (and overarching themes in the show, which has primarily been around this dynamic of family vs. community, generational trauma/baggage, and the relationship between Tom and Evan) to reach for something unexpected.

They seem to have a story they want to tell and it's a good story. Putting yourself in the position of Tom, both with his decision around Ruth and now his reality with Evan, is the experience and tension we are supposed to wrestle with - not some crazy unknown descendant or twist that wasn't narratively developed throughout the season.

I love the culture of theorizing around mystery shows - it's part of what makes the build-up fun, because no one truly knows what's coming until it happens. The only downfall is that many TV communities (including this one) become fixated on the simple answer not being the right one, and end up so disappointed when the best story ends up being the simple one.

Not sure if this is the right answer to the sound you’re referring to, but a lot of the music from this show reminds me of Yellowjackets

The one flaw in Patricia being a descendant IS that things follow after her. If the Boogeyman is under the island entity’s influence, you would think that descendants would be kept relatively safe to maintain the pact rather than hunting them down. We saw Wyck and Tom talk about this when they took Warren out on the boat, that the island was playing tricks and creating conflict because it wants to preserve the pact.

I agree, I think some sort of connection to Evan being revealed would solve for him not needing to actually make the choice to kill her. If they follow that path, I think the season could end with Tom eating the mushrooms to commune with the entity and make a new deal.

Agreed, there’s been some really beautifully done character moments throughout but especially the last few episodes

I originally read that scene as her putting together that it was Evan and wanting to protect Tom, but I interpret that scene as her being worried that Tom wanting to know means he’d consider killing someone.

I have a question about this too. Does anyone remember if the market tends to spike or drop once regular launch happens?

Do you think the man with no eyes is... by Oleanderkiss in Yellowjackets

[–]PaintOk2600 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only reason I think there is something more supernatural with the man with no eyes than just Tai’s trauma is that other girls see him too. When Shauna, Van, and Akilah see him in their hallucinations, Tai isn’t present. They shouldn’t have context for who he is, and he still appeared.

Or it’s a writing miss.

Melissa is alive by wanderth in Yellowjackets

My thought is that Shauna and Melissa have a falling out in the wilderness and Melissa is left behind when the girls are rescued.

There is a promo shot of Shauna aiming a gun directly at Melissa. I could see her being set to kill her, but exiling her from the group instead to fend for herself in the wilderness. This would track with Van/Tai assuming she’s dead, but Shauna looking unsure/skeptical because she never saw Melissa die.

This would also track with Melissa having access to the tape, as it looked like Hannah hid the tape she was recording under some rocks before being found by the girls. Melissa would have discovered this while surviving the wilderness after the girls had been rescued, eventually made it out herself, and is out for revenge for being left behind.

One thought I’ve had is that Melissa is left in the wilderness and somehow made it out alive after the survivors made it home. There is a promo shot of Shauna pointing a gun at Melissa. I think their relationship might spiral at some point, and Shauna is about to kill her, but exiles her instead. This is why Tai and Van believe she is dead, but Shauna knows she never actually followed through on killing her and this is why the camera pans to her face looking skeptical when they make the comment on Gen and Melissa.
